Replacing my heater and the work involved

According to pentair, I get one extra year of warranty and that's it. As far as the 2x...this is not a brand new install... It's a disconnect/reconnect.

Replacing my heater and the work involved

The $3000 is how much I could get the heater for, taxes and shipping included. It's the $1200 for a simple disconnect/reconnect that is giving me pause. It's not like new water, gas, or electrical lines all need to be run. It's all right there.

Replacing my heater and the work involved

I get all the "company expenses" part, but this guy is also an independent contractor - he's not a full-on company so he doesn't have a lot of those expenses. The full company, with two brick and mortar fronts, was only going to charge $400 so there's that. I guess the point is, are you guys...

Replacing my heater and the work involved

Just to add to my own thread here...talked to another place local and they would charge $400 to do the work...but $3900 for the heater! Not sure if they are just marking stuff up or baking labor into the heater "cost". Frankly, the $400 sounds a lot more reasonable and what I was thinking but...

Replacing my heater and the work involved

I've decided to replace my 13 year old Mastertemp 250 before it fails completely on me. I got a quote from a local guy for installation and disposal for $4200 (I'm in southeastern Michigan). I can get one for anywhere from 2900 to 3300 which means this guy is charging me $900-$1300 to do this...

    Time to replace my heater?

Thanks! I was actually there and missed the table! Didn't scroll down far enough! Lol

    Time to replace my heater?

yeah...having a hard time finding the specifics from pentair. I think what I said is right. If you can point me to a doc or something, I'd appreciate it.

    Time to replace my heater?

One year for e-commerce and 2 year for the other if installed by a professional, right?

    Time to replace my heater?

Well, that kind of becomes a no brainer to me. My google search was showing me 15-25 years and then I find out that's for electric heaters after your reply. Seems like I've done well and it's time to pack it in before it fails when I really need it. So...that being said, I'll switch the...

    Time to replace my heater?

So how long should I normally expect a heater to last under normal circumstances?

    Time to replace my heater?

My mastertemp 250 has been through 12 summers. I've replaced several parts (control pad, control panel, thermistor, thermal regulator) but I still had a squealing sound at the end of last year when it was heating up (despite a fresh thermal regulator) although it still seemed to be functioning...

    Heater whining

Latest update: Got a whole new unit from Pentair and it tested exactly the same temperature wise. I thought maybe the spring might be affecting things so I replaced all of it (which they sent me) including the cap. No change really. At times it will run without the whine and other times it...

Replacement for the wall whale brush...

Mine is the original XL, so maybe that's part of the equation? I hadn't looked at the newer models - appears the fan of bristles is just not a thing anymore!

Replacement for the wall whale brush...

Thought I'd revisit this and provide some info for people. I decided to give the SweepEase a try and it came yesterday and I tried it out. This after a failed repair on the old wall whale. :) First, it does indeed seem to hug the wall, floor, etc as well as the wall whale. Or at least close...

Really dumb question about CYA and chlorine...

I've always wondered...if you add CYA (in particular the liquid kind, since it's "available" so quickly), does it directly "affect" the chlorine level in the water? In other words, will the added CYA "bind" with some of the chlorine and then lower the FC results? Like I said...really dumb...

Repairing chips in the concrete deck around my pool

Here's a couple of examples. The first one you can see the chunks and that's a big one that's just inside my shadow that's actually loose.

Repairing chips in the concrete deck around my pool

I have a number of spots, mostly at intersections, where the concrete deck around my pool is chipping and small chunks of concrete are loose, some of which end up in the pool. Any suggestions on what I can try and do to repair these?

Pool light shadow after liner replacement

Got in the pool this afternoon and looked closer at the light. The lens has two halves. One half, where the "N" is, has vertical lines in it and the other half, with the "W", has horizontal lines. (stock picture below, note the W at the top). Looking at the lens and the letters, that makes total...

Pool light shadow after liner replacement

It's about the half moon shadow to me. You can see in the old picture it wasn't there. I don't even notice the liner difference itself (different pattern anyway). I don't hate it, was just mostly trying to understand if there was an issue. You bring up a good point about the ends - if I were to...

Pool light shadow after liner replacement

Yeah, I'm pretty convinced it's the lens orientation now. Bummer because I don't want to mess with it! Pentair recommends replacing all that stuff any time you reassemble it and that's $90. Plus I'm a little nervous about doing it

Pool light shadow after liner replacement

Same light but I think they may have replaced the ring but not positive. I was just looking at the manual and there is a narrow or wide lens adjustment. I don't know precisely what that means for the way the light looks. Looking at the two pics it's almost as if the old install was lighting from...

Pool light shadow after liner replacement

Last year I had my liner replaced. I didn't notice it until this year but now I have this sorta weird shadow in the pool. The pictures below are from the year before I had the liner replaced and the next one is last year after it was replaced (May). The last one is a side view I took last year...
