    Polaris Watermatic 2000 ORP problems

660-700 mV with no Bromine is very unusual. In a commercial spa application using bromine the exact opposite is usually the case. It can be very difficult to register much more than a 400-500 mV reading with a reasonable bromine level. If you are in an area where an ORP controller is...

    My Chlorine Feeder

Nice job. Looks like you've put a lot of thought into the installation. I will add a few thoughts based on my experience for you: 1) Bulkhead at the bottom of the bleach tank. It's not a question of if this will fail and leak; it's a question of when. Normally I would recommend using a...

    Stenner Pump Overflow

Sorry, but the check valve isn't the total solution. If the roller head is bad the pump still won't be able to pump chemical. If the lines are reversed it still won't be able to pump chemicals...although with your further description it certainly sounds like more of a roller head issue to me...

    Stenner Pump Overflow

Water is flowing back to the tank from the pool. Either the inlet/outlet lines are reversed or the roller head is bad. The suction line from the tank should be connected to the rear inlet, closest to the wall. If it is a bad roller head, they are easy to replace. You can use an injection...

New pool estimate for San Antonio area(thoughts)

Looks good. As others said the pump looks a little large even on low speed. You may want to consider a sand filter for lower maintenance costs long term. Those cartridges get expensive. Looks like a Gary pool. They do good work and have been around forever. Best way to negotiate with them...

How to choose a quality hose clamp

Buy the Banjo super clamps or an equivalent and you'll never have to worry again. These are typically available at Ag stores where they sell sprayers, etc. http://www.banjovalves.com/banjo-super-clamps.aspx

ORP values have never really correlated with the Cl values

Re: ORP values have never really correlated with the Cl valu Hydrogen gas doesn't act as a reducing agent and dechlorinate to some extent?

    Ph controller

Be careful with that unit. I haven't used it in a number of years but IIRC it has an issue with no battery backup for the settings and if power is lost it starts back up by having both pumps on at full blast.

ORP Modelling based on Nernst equation

It cannot be done in a pool environment because the ORP can be affected by many more variables that aren't electronically measurable other than FC.

Homemade Acid OR Chlorine Injection System

You could use a sprinkler timer and 24v NC solenoid valve to achieve this. The ones they sell with sprinklers won't work because the bleach will corrode them in short order. The only valves I know of that will work with bleach are Plast-o-matic and they are not cheap.

Solenoid valves or valve actuators - which are better?

or put a little y-strainer in the chlorinator bypass line prior to the solenoids.

Salt water vs regular for community pool

Will it work? Absolutely, but it must be sized correctly. For peak demand, not average daily usage. Make sure you have no water leaks in the pool and you must use stabilizer. Just like any other system, it is not a panacea for all your problems. The green water won't automatically be solved...

    Complete pool chemical automation mfg's

That's an ion selective electrode that requires reagent use in addition to the sensing/reference electrode. It is not well suited for pool use, particularly automated pool use. There are plenty of chlorine cells/electrodes that CYA doesn't interfere with but none are inexpensive, low...

What's better, 120V or 240V for peristaltic pump?

I'd go 120. It's much more standard. I would also recommend considering the Stenner (www.stenner.com) over the Rola-Chem. Lower maintenance and better parts availability in TX. If you're planning on ordering a tank online you may be able to buy one less expensively locally due to the...

    Complete pool chemical automation mfg's

There are many systems commercially available for well under 5k. They typically control pH and ORP, possibly pool flow, filter pressure, temp, etc. FC is also becoming more common but the good sensors are expensive as Jason said. CH and TA can be done with ion specific electrodes but not...

    New metering pump project

Stroke or frequency set too low can cause loss of prime without a degass valve. The good news is you have a low output pump so you shouldn't have to set it too low. The quality of the bleach (which should be pretty good at 5.25 from a grocery store) and the ambient temp will effect it as well...

    Rola-Chem flow meters

They also don't clog as easily since they have a larger orifice. But, they are made out of a molded plastic instead of drilled acrylic block so they aren't as sturdy.

    Rattling in the sand filter

Are you sure the noise isn't coming from the pump? That sounds a lot like pump cavitation.

    Acid pump too loud?

While noise is subjective, in general Stenner pumps should not be louder than your circulation pump. Later in life if the rotor bearings wear out or if the gears need greasing they can get noisy...it's almost like a grinding sound. However, since yours is on a Total Control I don't think it...
