Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Doubtful. You pool is requiring a certain # ppm of FC per day (right now it seems high for some reason) ... does not matter how you add it. With the pucks, you would still have to add the same # ppm FC per day, but then you would also be adding CYA ... meaning you will require even higher FC...

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

So I've added 9 lbs of Aquachem stabilizer to raise levels (just assumed I was below 30 even though I felt pretty good I was around 45). From what im reading, around 50 ppm of cya, I should loose just a few ppm per day from sunlight (still not loosing at night). So this addition should get...

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Im in south central Kentucky. I've checked CYA several time and feel good about it. Doesn't get used every day but at least 3 days a week around an hour a day.

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Ok, so I am starting to get very frustrated. I still can't keep FC at the right level for more than 24 hrs. Basically no loss over night, no CC and pool is crystal clear! My FC levels drop at least 8ppm or more from morning to evening. Levels are still as before with CYA around 50 ppm. This...

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Is a feeder necessary with this method? I was under the impression that it wasn't necessary so I have not been using it.

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Yes, but I have been like this every time I have shocked, and 24hrs after shocking, levels are down from 20 ppm to almost nothing. Seems like this is not normal.

Still no FC lost on the OCLT. All levels still the same.

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

As promised, here is a photo of the pool water. It has looked like this the entire time I have been messing the the FC levels. You could read a book under the water from the pool deck! What's going on with my FC?! [attachment=0:3fuk5amk]2012-06-08_15-51-21_244 - Copy...

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Check levels again this morning. FC Was less than 1 ppm But was present. CYA is at least between 35 and 40. Everything else is the same.

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Thanks. I'm not use to the black dot tes but feel pretty good about it. If anything it might be lower but not much. Dot is absolutely not visible at 30ppm. Pretty sure it is not visible at 40. Would a low CYA cause this? Should I consider raising? I'll need to buy more bleach before I can...

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

So here are my levels now FC: 3.5ppm CC: 0ppm pH: 7.5 TA: 110 ppm CYA: 40ppm Water is crystal clear. Lost 0 ppm FC over night but almost 17 throughout the day today! Is this normal? Do I need to shock again?
  14. W

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Yes, I measured the FC and CC. It was 20ppm FC with .5ppm CC or less. I will check my CYA levels again tonight.

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Levels were still at shock level this morning after shocking last night. Why would I lose so much FC throughout the day?
  16. W

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Looks like its back to shocking again. Checked levels a few minutes ago and FC was at 1opm. CC .5 or less. Water crystal clear though!_

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Thanks again for all the help. It's been pretty sunny here today. Any ideas on what to expect the FC to be when I check it this evening? Any way to estimate loss from sun?

Is the brownish hint in the color significant?

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

This may be a dumb question, can you safely put your arm in thec water to sample after putting that much bleach in? The water is the color of the bleach( sort of) 1 hr afrer

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

All levels are the same this morning except FC. This has dropped to 1.5 ppm. How long/often should I continue superchlorinating once I get back up to shock level? Looks like I am going by the store again to see if they've restocked bleach :-D

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

Ok, so I definitely don't have enough bleach on hand. I only bought 8 jugs. How many jugs do you recommend to have on hand for this?

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

So, pool calc told me to add 5.6 182oz jugs of bleach to raise CC from 0 to 18 ppm. Added 7 jugs then 25 lbs baking soda to raise TA . Checked levels about 3 hrs later (water turned green for awhile). Levels as follows FC: 4.5 CC: .5 pH: 7.2 TA: 125 I will check again in the morning and repost.

Ya, I can't figure out why work doesn't understand how important pool maintenance and upkeep is  I'll post back tonight.

Crystal clear water, but no FCL

I ran out of bleach yesterday. I live in a small town and only have a few places that carry everything needed. Work during the day so this evening is the only time it works out. It will happen this evening, though.

I just found the extension test instructions that show how to test for CC. I'll be doing this this evening. Still plan to bring FC to shock level.
