We do indeed get leaves, branches and helicopters (maple seeds) in our pool - - 4 giant maples line our pool. Great question, I hadn't thought to mention that!

What does everyone reccomend for a reasonably priced automatic pool cleaner? We have a 23,000 gallon vinyl lined inground pool.

Neglected IG Turtle Pond - need help

Thank you, everyone on trouble free pool! We followed the BBB method last summer, and this year opened to a sparkling blue pool! Couldn't be happier with the results - we so appreciate everyone's posts and advice. We are looking forward to a great pool season! Cheryl & Bill

    Bullfrogs

How do you keep frogs out of the pool? I think they are adorable, and don't mind them swimming in the pool at night and sitting on top of the solar cover when not in use, but I came home to find hundreds of frog eggs on the pool steps this afternoon. Any ideas to help move them without killing...

Neglected IG Turtle Pond - need help

We are keeping up with the shock, but still can't see the deep end. My husband dove down to the main drain last night, and found the drain was plugged with sticks (a lot of sticks) and leaves. He cleared that up, and there wasn't much other sediment down there. So hopefully sparkly clear...

Dattia, thanks, I never get tired of encouragement! We didn't lose any fc overnight, but water is still cloudy in the deep end. Maybe, when I come home from work today... :-D

Still a milky blue pool, but we can see more into the deep end today. My husband is changing the sand, hoping new sand will help clear out the pool. The filter was new on 2001, and the pool hasn't been used since at least 2006, so it may be 10 year old sand. I'm hoping to wake up to sparkly...

Neglected IG Turtle Pond - need help

No change from yesterday. Lost just 1 fc overnight and cc holding steady at 1. Can see the botom of the shallow and maybe 5 feet into deep end. I was hoping today would be the big day - high supposed to be around 90. Late 80's to low 90's all week - so maybe tomorrow will be the day! lol...

We can clearly see the wrinkles in the bottom of the shallow end this morning! Yay! Won't be long now! This "POP" stuff really works! -Cheryl

That makes sense about the cal-hypo and the Ch levels. After last weekend, we switched to bleach only. A local pool store sells a gallon of 12.5% for $3.70 so we have been stocking up! I would say the water is a milky blue-green. Supposed to be 90 and muggy this weekend and hot hot hot...

Neglected IG Turtle Pond - need help

Thank you so much for the encouragement! That is just what we wanted to hear! Yesterday's late afternon reading was fc 9.5 and pH 7.2, so I added more Borax to increase pH to 7.4. Then I realized (too late) that my pH reading may have been off due to shocking? I will buy some MA this...

Neglected IG Turtle Pond - need help

Is it possible for the pool to get clearer and more cloudy at the same time? We can now see about 3 feet in, but there are clouds of white throughout the pool. Is the Borax I added last night causing that?

Neglected IG Turtle Pond - need help

Overnight FC loss test: FC 12 (loss of 3 - much better!) cc 1.5 pH 7.4 (the borax we added worked great!) Pool still cloudy, but I know it will be sparkly soon and we will be swimming in that cold water! Time to get a solar cover  Does anyone have the clear kind and like it better...

Neglected IG Turtle Pond - need help

Thank you so much for the continued great responses! One more question - when we had drained 1/2 the pool, I had scrubbed the steps and they were perfectly clean (white with blue treads) - now that the water has refilled, they again look yellow/brown stained. What would cause that? Thanks...

My test kit was waiting for me at home today! Here are the results: FC 6 CC 1 pH 7 TA 100 CH 200 CYA less than 30 (but I put enough in this weekend to bring to 20, so we can assume 20) We are adding borax to increase the pH and 12.5% chlorine to mustard shock level now. We are brushing the...

Neglected IG Turtle Pond - need help

My new tests kit arrives today! Can't wait to see the real pool chemistry numbers! How often should I backflush while shocking? Only when the psi increases 20%? Or more often to flush the dead algae out of the filter? The color is much improved, but still cloudy. We can't quite see the...

The Cl levels stayed over 20 overnight (can't wait til my Taylor test kit arrives tomorrow so I can tell the FC values!). Water is bluer but stiill cloudy - we can see most of the second step though. Is chlorine still our best and only weapon? Will floc help, or maybe some DE (we have a sand...

Definite progress! But today when we got home from work, the Cl was only at 9 (from 30 this am). So tomorrow, I will double whatever I was gonna put in :)

Not much change in appearance from last night to this morning. Water is a light green-blue color, but very cloudy. I tried to take a picture, but its difficult to view in the morning light. For visibility, we can see the top of the second step. Cl was at 20 this am, I shocked to 30 to keep...

I think we have MOST of the solids cleaned out. The leaf rake doesn't bring up much anymore, we aren't finding leaves in the filter anymore, and we keep vacuuming. As we vacuum we can feel a lot of wrinkles in the liner bottom, so there is probably some stuff hiding out in the creases. I...

POP - what store do I buy that at? Shocked to 18 last night before bed - this morning's reading was 10, so I shocked to 18 again and will watch the levels every hour today. Does this look like progress (I hope)?

Thanks frogabog. We put enought cya in to reach 20 ppm, and are basing all our chemicals on a filled pool (as we are filling it now). The shock we are using is calcium hypo, so is not adidng any cya to the water. We plan to occasionally use the skimmer tablets in the future so we did not want...
