I ended up just busting it up and I'll get a new one. Any idea why this happened after 17 yrs of not having this problem?

the mesh holes seem too small to fit the opener end. I tried fashioning a hanger but it just bent when I pulled. It is really stuck. This has never happened before

Been changing out pump basket weekly or so for 17 yrs. It is so stuck that I'm afraid the handle will break if I keep pulling. It looks like the notches are lined up properly but it will not budge. I've scraped out most of the debris by hand and tried using a flat screwdriver to pry around edge...
