Time of day to run the pump

I run mine on two different schedules, depending upon the time of year. In winter, I split the run time in two and run the pump starting at midnight and then again starting at 6 AM. I do this to help prevent freezing, since we don't close our pool for the winter. The bulk of the pumping is done...

Can you empty pool using the pumps?

To follow up on the little saga... I was unable to pull water just from the main drain. *sigh* Nobody nearby had a sump pump to rent that would do the job and after reading the online reviews before making a purchase, I was sadly unimpressed. The less expensive models ($150 and under) seemed...

Can you empty pool using the pumps?

Thank you for your prompt replies. My first thought while reading your post was, "Like a Hoover"? LOL! No, I don't have a manual vacuum. Excellent point re renting a pump vs. buying one. I hadn't thought of that and sure don't want to spend the $ to purchase one. Thanks!

Can you empty pool using the pumps?

Hi, I have 2 Jandy Steath SHPF 1.0 Hp pumps for a 12x30 IG plaster pool that has in floor cleaning heads. I need to do a partial pool emptying. (CH is way too high.) Is there a way to empty below the skimmer line using the pumps, (or anything else I may have on-hand), or is the only choice to...

    Magic Jack VoiP phone

I use magic jack. The voice quality is fine, but once in a while when I make a call all I get is a dial tone and have to redial a couple of times before it goes through. I didn't disconnect my landline; I like the convenience of having a land line in every room and I always have "What if i need...

    Water getting a little cool!

Ours is too cool for me to swim (73F in the afternoon), but DH went in yesterday. Maybe next year we'll get a solar cover and extend the season a bit.

    Pool Lifts for handicapped people

Aqua creek shows a chair pool lift for AGPs and spas which do not require deck mountings or ramps. They say it is designed to clear wall heights of up to 60 inches and wall thicknesses up to 14 inches. There would be no need for a ramp and/or deck for an AGP then...

    Pool Lifts for handicapped people

I had asked the same question here: http://www.troublefreepool.com/chair-lift-handicapped-access-for-igp-t5376.html I looked up Aqua Creek Products, as suggested, and contacted Aquatic Environmental Systems, which is their local metro Phoenix distributor, since I live in the metro Phoenix area...

    Chair Lift/Handicapped access for IGP

Has anyone installed a chair lift for their IGP? I am looking for recommendations/suggestions and also what to avoid. Thanks!

Thank you so much, Jason. I appreciate you!

Confusing #'s past couple of days & getting worse

I tested the CYA twice and got 50 and 60. Since the CC went to 2, I thought I should shock it - thus bringing the FC up to 20. (Since I had two CYA #'s, I went with the higher one to make sure I killed whatever might be growing.) Instead of bringing it up to 20, the next test showed the FC to...

Confusing #'s past couple of days & getting worse

I am using DPD. In the yellow box (chlorine instruction section) under the cover, it says: If color is off-scale: Repeat test using 4.5 ml sample diluted to 9 ml mark wtih tap water. Multiply reading by 2 to obtain approximate sanitizer level. That is what I did.

Confusing #'s past couple of days & getting worse

For the past couple of weeks, I have been running FC and TC levels between 3 and 7, with a CC level always 0. The pH runs between 7.4 and 8.0. I add 10% bleach and 14% muriatic acid each evening, the exact amounts depending upon the actual numbers. On Mondays I run full sets of numbers. On 4/3...

New pool test results & questions

What a difference a day makes. Today's #'s are: FC: 5 TC: 5 CC: 0 pH: 7.6 CYA: 40 Temp: 72F I don't have to do anything to the pool tonight? Wow!

New pool test results & questions

You have no idea how excited I am that I am able to do some of the math. Thank you SO MUCH, Jason! Do you think dust blowing into the pool is affecting the CC level?

New pool test results & questions

Oh dear. I see another funky math calculation coming. *sigh* I live in the desert. It has been windy the past couple of days and there has been a bit dust blowing around. Could that be what the chlorine is fighting? If my numbers turned out to be exactly the same tomorrow.... How much...

New pool test results & questions

Yeah!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The pool looks crystal clear and beautiful. If it wasn't 70 degrees, I would be very tempted to jump in. Why would the CC be rising? There is nothing visible like algae.

New pool test results & questions

There are indeed a bunch of wonderful gurus here. Many of the conversations at this point are way over my head. I hope to understand a bit more as time goes on. Unfortunately, I did not take any pics until the gunite stage. It is a small, raw backyard too, since it is new construction, so there...

New pool test results & questions

Tonight's numbers and treatment: I only tested tonight for chlorine, pH and CYA. I got: FC: 2 TC: 5 CC: 3 pH: 8.0 CYA: 52 (approx.) Temp: 70F If I used The Pool Calculator and did the math correctly, I should add: 66 oz. of 10% bleach (to get the pH up to 7) and 72.6 oz. of 14% muriatic...

I must have a forum setting incorrect, because I do not see a signature at all for you. I do have your pool calculator bookmarked though, from a previous visit. (Thank you!!!) I didn't realize I should put "7" under the goal, because above it was the word "gallons". Now it makes more sense to...

New pool test results & questions

I looked at Ben's Best Guess Guide the other day and it made absolutely no sense to me. I looked at it again tonight and it did. Now I'm scared! LOL! Thank you for steering me in the right direction and for the kind words.

New pool test results & questions

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. It brings up more questions though. (Sorry!) I thought I read someplace that FC should be between 1.0 and 3.0. That is incorrect? What did you calculate to get 26 oz of 14% muriatic acid and 79 ounces of 10% bleach? Also, I thought TA should be...

New pool test results & questions

Hi everyone! I posted last year with a question regarding handrails for an existing pool in a house we almost purchased. We wound up not buying that house after all. Instead, we went for a new build and a new pool. The pool is finished and the water is in. The PB's rep who came over to...

New handrails for existing pebble-tech pool

Thank you for the welcome and the replies. I do not think deck mounted rails would go far enough down the steps or support enough weight, but if they could be mounted into the pool that would be great.

New handrails for existing pebble-tech pool

I am considering making an offer on a house which already has a small pebble-tech pool. There are no handrails at the steps. I am handicapped and would need to have two rails installed, so I could support myself on both sides while entering/exiting the pool. How difficult and costly a task would...
