Wood burning DIY pool heater with wort chiller and copper

My electric Raypak water heater has been out of order for a few years. Not wanting to spend thousands on a new heater, I’ve been looking at some DIY options including solar heaters. I came across this website: Wood Fired Stock Tank Hot Tub — Stock Tank Pool Tips, Kits, & Inspiration | How-to...

Conduit fitting help for Hayward Super Pump

My Hayward Power-Flo Matrix for my AGP (110V) failed recently. It had a power cord that was plugged into an outlet that was controlled by a switch and a timer. I bought a used Hayward Super Pump--instead of hard wiring it, I want to wire the new pump with the power cord from the old one so I...

    Pump making humming noise

Thanks.. I don't really consider myself handy.. so I might just end up replacing the pump.. the pool is opened already, so I'm afraid of the algae forming if I wait too long. There's a used Hayward Super Pump near me -- meant for in-ground pools, would that work as a replacement? I know vice...

    Pump making humming noise

Thank you guys. I tried cleaning out the basket side impeller and also tried kickstarting the main shaft. It was pretty resistant to moving, but when I turned on the power it spinner a little more easily for a few turns before the pump would shut off again. Here are some pics. I’m thinking the...

    Pump making humming noise

HI guys, I just opened up my above-ground pool for the summer, but found out that my Hayward Power-Flo Matrix pump cannot be started (it was working fine last season--although I had some issues with the pump losing pressure quite often). When I put the switch on, it just hums for a few seconds...

Btw, my pump seems to be losing pressure randomly and it picks back up. When backwashes and clean, the normal pressure hovers around 18 psi. But when it loses pressure, it goes down to 10-12psi and can stay there a while. I see the return seems to give more air bubbles when this happens. Any...

Oh and the CC seems to be zero or 0.5. The color turned very slightly pink when I was testing.

So this morning, FC was 30. Just now—around six hours later—it’s at 27ppm. I added a quart of liquid chlorine to bring it up a little. The SWG was running at 100% the whole time but it’s a sunny day and I went into the pool briefly (15-20 min). Do the numbers suggest there is algae in the...

Will do. I'm home today so I'll be testing shortly again! Thanks!

Sorry the CYA level is actually at 70. I just decided to test TA this morning which was 90. Isn’t one of the criteria of ending the SLAM when the water is clear? I’m just hoping to get the clear water by maintaining the FC at 28 with the help of the SWG. I have big trees surrounding the pool...

I see. What if I can’t test the water frequently? I can only test the water once or twice a day due to my work schedule usually. I was hoping the SWG would help maintain the SLAM FC level to kill the algae. The test result from this morning is FC 30 and TA 90. I forgot to test for CC but it...

The water looked a little clearer today after adding 4 gallons of bleach yesterday. Still cloudy but I can see the bottom a little better. I'm running the SWG 24/7 at 100% now.. I've read on other threads that higher pH can make the water appear less clear.. how much effect does it have on the...

I think I'll start the SLAM as you recommended.. I've been working at clearing this pool over a month now.. So at my CYA level of 70, I need to bring up the FC to 28.. once the SLAM is done, would I have to wait until the FC level comes down considerably before I can start swimming in it?

If it’s just the dead algae, is it possible to just scrub and filter it out?

Ah I see. Thank you I’ll do that. How do I get the water to be clear though? Does this have anything to do with the pH? All the other chemicals are in the TFP recommended range.

Hi guys. Hope you all had a nice weekend. I was out of town for a few days and I think I might have aerated the water too long. The pH this morning was 8.0. I added muriatic acid to bring it down to 7.4. The SWG has been running on turbo mode 10 hours a day since. The FC level is over 10...

Great! Now the return is facing way up. How long do I need to do this to see any appreciable rise in pH?

Thanks for the quick response, Kim! About pH, do you mean just point the return jet upward without adding any chemical to bring up the pH?

Ok. I did some digging and resetting the outlet inside the home did the trick and now the pump is working. Here’s the test results for the evening. pH 7.0 Salt 3600ppm (Circupool recommends 3500) TA 70 CYA 70 FC 5.5 So I need to bring the pH up (the water was clearer earlier today but now it...

Using the mallet worked! thanks a lot! Now that I've filled the water, balanced the water for the SWG, I was ready to get the pump running again this morning. I haven't turned on the pump in maybe 5-6 days.. but the pump won't start!! :( I checked the circuit breaker and it seems nothing is...

I finally installed the SWG. Just waiting for the water to fill up now. Btw, I would like to get rid of the leaves from the pump filter (is that the correct term) from the clear glass, but this thing was impossible to turn. Does anybody know any tricks to turn this?

Yeah I thought about it, but I'm trying to do the least amount of work possible.. ;) Not sure if it's worth hard piping just this one section.

So I spent more than 40 minutes at Home Depot trying to find the right PVC parts/unions.. but I'm kind of lost. After removing the chlorinator shown above (I believe it's this one:Amazon.com: Hayward CL200 In-line Automatic Chemical Feeder: Gateway), what PVC parts do I need? The Circupool...
