Another Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

So I had pro come out. Replaced ignitor. Did not work. Rechecked all pressure with house hvac running and all gas components working as expected. Pro was in contact with Hayward to diagnose. All typical wear parts were working as expected. Heat exchanger, flame sensor, burners, regulators...

Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

You can just pull it. Turn gas inlet from the ground off. Remove ignitor and turn on heater to begin cycle. You will be able to see the end of the ignitor turn red hot. Of course wait till cool before trying to put back in place. I did this. Mine tested 14 ohms. And it got red hot during cycle...

Another Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

Updated signature. Attaching images of outside gas supply, exterior gas inlet, cleaned manifold. When heater guy comes back will turn on house heat and test again. I believe the unit / piping is around 10 years old. I know there is some corrosion on the main supply line. I have alerted Gas...

Another Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

I cleaned off flame sensor. Thought that was it. The connection spade had rust. I wire brushed it all off and tried again. No go. Still cycles. Heater guy has not come back yet to help. Any other ideas? This thing can’t be that complicated... FYI Ground looked brand new. No rust and strong...

Another Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

Got a guy to come out and test. He tested 9WC inlet and 3WC outlet. Adjusted slightly. He said gas valve and regulator were working as expected. Thoroughly cleaned manifold and burner tubes. Worked for a few hours. Today I fired it up and it went through the three cycles and IF again. No...

Another Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

Ok so I pulled the ignitor and ran a cycle. It burned red HOT. So definitely not the ignitor. Where is the pilot light? Is that something different, should I pull that and clean it? Any other ideas?

Another Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

I definitely cannot see the pilot light, where should I be looking, is there a peep hole or something? I doubt it, I see no flames or heat anywhere. I am about to pull the ignitor and see if it gets hot.

Will try this today. Thank you. I hope it’s ignitor I believe I am capable of replacing that. Seems straightforward. Will reply with results.

Another Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

Cleaned throughout. used pipe cleaner to clean out burner holes and manifold valves and all orifices. Still no go. I don't smell any gas around the manifold during cycles. I believe I am smelling gas from the rear blower exhaust. I am worried its the gas valve unit (seems very hard to find...

Another Pool Heater Hayward h400idl - IF ignition failure error

James, I was hoping you can help me as well. Similar situation. H400 Gas Heater about 10 years old. Just opened pool. Turned heater on and set temp to call for heat. I can hear blower, I see the "heat" light illuminate then it clicks and fails. That cycle repeats two more times, then IF code...

    TA and PH Balancing Questions

Yes I use a Taylor2006 kit. And great, I will not mess with the baking soda. I will add more acid again. Maybe my acid was old (I think I used a bottle I had left over from years ago). The acid did not seem as effective as it should have. I bought a new bottle today. Will add and test water...

    TA and PH Balancing Questions

I have been using the BBA method now all summer. Works like a charm. No more pucks; all liquid chlorine for me here on out. My CYA is higher than I like (due to pucks) but I maintain FC pretty consistently using the TFP tables. Pool = 25k Gallons, Plaster Inground with Spa Spillover and...

So today was a busy day. First time I cleaned the cartridge filter, it was a mess. I also cleaned that Energy Filter. Thanks for heads up. I even replaced the check valve for the SPA, since its is raised and was wondering why water lowered when off. So after opening Smart Controller, the...

    Goldline Automation - Actuator Help

Here is a quick pic. As you can see the booster is attached to a three way directly after main pump and prior to filter. Since that valve is not automated it’s always on. So when booster is off water still runs through it and of course out into pool. Even when in spa mode.

    Goldline Automation - Actuator Help

Two follow up questions: 1) Jimrahbe you mentioned no SPA water unless in SPA / Spillover. I assume this means to focus all water circulation on pool. Then I assume you mean at some periodic time, to set SPA spillover to allow SPA to circulate on its own. How often should I do that? Its that...

    Goldline Automation - Actuator Help

thanks for advice and prompt reply. The underlying question is why is the controller setting the return to pool in spill over mode? I can watch the actuator and it’s position 1 pool for pool mode and position 2 for spa mode and back to position 1 for spill over mode. So even if it’s out of...

    Goldline Automation - Actuator Help

Very new to this forum, albeit I've searched quite a bit and still need help. Apologies if my question has been answered, would appreciate the thread link. I just acquired a new pool with full automation. My setup is a Pool + Spa STD. Two automated 24v actuators. One for Pool/Spa Suction and...
