UL rated sump pump to drain pool

I use an cheap pump I bought from Home Depot 10 years ago and it works just fine. Not sure the flow rating but it does take a little while to drop my level to where I want it in the fall. That said, I would not worry about whether it is a real certification or not because you should be...

Old diving board: keep or replace?

I have the same/similar base and redid it last year by having the rear mount replaced and then sandblasted and repainted. The total cost was around 600.00 with most of the cost for the sandblasting. Yours does not look as rusty as mine was so you can likely prep and paint yourself to save...

    Light niche conduit best practice

My plan is to use a single junction box for both pool lights. The deep end light is only 5-6 feet from the pool edge and the proposed junction box install location but the shallow end light is approximately 30 feet horizontally from the proposed junction box location. I understand your...

    Light niche conduit best practice

@ajw22 , Thank you for the information. I will have the equivalent of 3-1/2 90's in my proposed run for the shallow light and two 90's in the deep end conduit. All of the installation instructions I have seen for the forming shell show the conduit exiting the niche and immediately rising...

    Light niche conduit best practice

Finally getting to the reconstruction phase of my project and am in the process of running new PVC conduit between the niche and junction box. Is there a best practice with regard to how the conduit is run? By that I mean is it better to limit the length of conduit below the water line to...

What @Texas Splash said. Without access to test the old water this is only speculation but the symptoms would suggest that your CYA (cyanuric acid also called stabilizer) was way too high, the effect of which is to greatly suppress the ability of the chlorine to do its job; kill algae and...

    Cover Anchor Catastrophic Failure

An additional thought came to mind. If the anchor is loose in the hole you could try to blow it out using an air compressor and blow gun. If you direct the air along the side of the hole I suspect enough will find its way beneath the remaining part of the anchor to blow it out of the hole...

    Cover Anchor Catastrophic Failure

It may be loose in the hole. The only part of the anchor that is a tight fit is the top collar which appears to be sheared off. I have replaced many anchors over the years and have never had to redrill a hole or do anything extraordinary to remove a broken one.

    A little schadenfreude

Got one of the housing installed today. There is definitely a gap around the new housing compared to the old one but it appears that the gasket on the front and back of the pool wall will adequately seal the housing. However, in a belt and suspenders approach, the plan is to use copious...

I just took a closer look at the instructions and there appears to be a contradiction in the size of the hole required. One note says 10" to 10-1/8" but another location shows 10-5/8" to 10-7/8" Any ideas why the apparent contradiction? Thanks,

OK, making progress. I removed the damaged light housing today. The hole in the fiberglass wall is 10-3/4" and the instructions with the new housing says 10" to 10-1/8" MAX diameter. The old and new sealing and back-up ring line up perfectly so dimensionally they are exactly the...

Well.... All this work to remove the old light cord was a wasted effort..... The contractor tore the conduit off of the back of the niche today while chipping out the concrete. 😭 I have been looking for a replacement niche and believe that Pentair 78232500 large stainless niche is...
