    inground pump help

Thanks for the help. The pump itself has a union on the input side and it has flexible pvc from pump to the filter, so piping should not be hard. That will be handy if I just replace the motor as well. Everything is in a shed and I don't have alot of clearance behind the pump, so I'm not sure...

    inground pump help

The pump housing says volts 115/230. The breaker for just the pump is a double ie it takes up two slots. Breaker itself looks to be 20 amps but the pump says 11/5.5.

    inground pump help

I apoligize if this is a stupid question in advance but I need some help. I have an 18 x 36 inground pool, Heldor I think, and it's about 24k gallons by my estimation. It came with the house so I don't know alot about it. Anyway it was installed I think in the mid 90s. It has a richardson...

    My first shock

My FC is still dropping overnight. I went from 14.5 with .5 CC last night to 11.5 PPM, 0 CC this morning. My pool is looking alot better though. I added some more bleach to get up around 15 PPM. This is taking longer then I thought but progress is being made.

    My first shock

I added the bottle of bleach earlier, so I tested my numbers alittle while ago and it was back to 11.5. So I added another bottle and retested inside of 30 minutes and it read 15.5 PPM FC with no CC still. The water is looking clearer and I no longer feel any slime on my liner. I'll retest...

    My first shock

The calculator says 15 PPM for shock. So I added 182 oz of bleach. It said 174 or so, so the extra 10 oz or so shouldn't hurt.

    My first shock

The kit was very easy to use. I still need to see what my shock values are though.

    My first shock

Ok, I couldn't wait. FC 11.5 CC 0 TC 11.5 PH 7.8 TA 150 CH 350 CYA 40 Temp 50 brrr So my TA and CH are both higher then I expected. No biggie I don't think. I need to look at my CYA to get my shock levels. Time to plug all these numbers into the pool calculator.

    My first shock

My bleach usage has slowed down quite a bit. I tested last night and it was reading over 10 PPM, so I added nothing. This morning it was reading under 10 PPM, so I added 1/2 a large bottle. It was the remainder from the half bottle I added sometime yesterday. I tested 30 or so minutes later and...

    My first shock

Here is a picture from earlier of my deep end to show the cloudiness. It's not terrible in all honesty. Uploaded with ImageShack.us here is a picture of the stairs, so you have an idea of what the liner should look like. I expect the deep end to be clear like the first step. [/URL]...

    My first shock

The test at 3 PM today was 5 PPM, so I added 2.8 gallons, which should have gotten my FC into the area of 13. Will the water actually clear up? I have two returns pointing to the bottom of the deep end, so nothing is settling out of the water onto the bottom and I doubt my sand filter is...

    My first shock

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I was around 3 PPM and added two large jugs, which would put me around 11 - 12 PPM, at 8 AM. 3.5 hours later my test still reads 10 PPM, which is top of the scale. I just added maybe half a jug, which will push me to a max of 15 PPM, unless my assumptions...

    My first shock

The pool calculator shows I should be around 13 PPM for shock if my CYA is 30. Based on the numbers I had this morning I think I'm just over 10 PPM and what i've added. My test strip has been holding steady at 10+ PPM and it's been 2 hours since my last addition. So my chlorine burn rate has...

    My first shock

My CYA level is about 30 PPM as best i can tell with my test strip.

    My first shock

Ok, I just did a test and it read 10 PPM about 1 hour after the last addition. I ran my finger over the liner on the first step and part of it feels clean and part had a little slime. So I brushed the pool again. I'll test my water again in an hour or so. I have a feeling I'll need to add...

    My first shock

I am shocking my pool with the method discussed in pool school for the first time ever. I always thought you just dumped in 3 lbs of shock and ran the filter  My pool was a little cloudy when I took off the winter cover. Nothing major. It's been cloudy ever since I had the liner...

    Order of operations

Yup, the sun finally came out this afternoon but I do have some CYA in my water from yesterdays additions, and my early morning FC drops were during the overcast period. I checked my FC levels at 3:00 and it was down to 5 PPM, so I added about 1.5 gallons of bleach. 3:30 reading was 10 PPM. I...

    Order of operations

This is interesting. I added 16 lbs of Borax this morning and let it mix in. I checked my PH and it was around 7.4 based on my test strips. I added about 4.2 gallons of 6% bleach at 9 AM, this should get me to 10 ppm FC. I tested the water around 10 AM and my FC was 1 and my total chlorine...

    Order of operations

TF-100 kit has been ordered. I read a post on algae and it mentiooned having a lower PH around 7.2 - 7.4. So I'll target that lower range when I add the borax. This should be interesting...

    Order of operations

I have been using the pool calculator. That's what clued me into how much baking soda to use. I also got the Borax amount for my PH. I'll buy that tommorow morning. I read the test kit section and know I need to order a better quality kit. That will take some time, so I'm hoping to get the...

    Order of operations

Basic details: I have a 18 x 36 in ground pool with steps, about 24K gallons i think. It came with the house, we bought the place in 1999, and I don't have a great clue about maintaining things. We replaced the liner last year, so the pool was refilled completely in late July. I found this...
