    Where did my CYA go

Thanks. Didn't know that it degraded so that would explain why I didn't have any. I'll know that for next year and have some extra on hand.

    Where did my CYA go

30,000 gallon pool. When I closed my pool last year I was at 30 CYA. When I opened it this year, the tube was clear. I use the Taylor test kit. My PH is 7.4 to 7.6 and thanks to this site I've figured out how to use the borax to keep the PH where I need it. I slammed the pool when I opened...

Screwed up big time. Think it worked itself out

Bottom line is I ended up with a CYA over 100, PH over 8 and FC at about 17.5. I drained about half the pool yesterday and after about 30 hours with a garden hose, got the pool back to the right level. Here are my current numbers: CYA: between 40-50 (still a little high so I'll be draining...

    Getting ready to SLAM

So I just checked both chlorine levels and its 2 for the FC and 7.5 for the CC. I know there is still debris in there. I just cleaned out the cleaner after less than an hour and it was nasty. I'll be adding more bleach tonight and will check again in the morning.

    Getting ready to SLAM

I am using the FAS-DPD. I used the 10ml level and 2 scoops of the powder. When I get to drop 4 of the reagent it almost clear but drop 5 instantly clears it up. As long as I'm reading that right, that would be 2.5 PPM. The Nature 2 is empty. Had to check it since I just bought this place...

    Getting ready to SLAM

I need to know what I'm doing wrong. I calculated I needed about 4 gallons of shock at 12.5% to get me from 0 to 12 based on the pool math. I put 4 gallons in and tested an hour later. total chlorine is 2.5 Added another gallon and tested 2 hours later. Total chlorine is 2.5. I have...

    Getting ready to SLAM

Thanks. I've looked over the SLAM page and watched the video a few times. I don't have the chlorine yet but will adjust the calculator once I find out the percentage. I've learned quickly to stay away from the pool store. I was surprised to see how many people were taking a water sample in...

    Getting ready to SLAM

My pool was "opened" by the pool place this past Friday. It's still green. I ordered and got my K-2006 test kit today. Here are my numbers FC=0 TA=40 CH=70 CYA=30 PH=7.3 Based on the pool math, I need to add just shy of 8 gallons of chlorine since my pool is roughly 40,000 gallons. Based on...

New to pools. Lots of questions

Skimmer is only a basket with one hole in the bottom of the opening. When it was winterized, they put a green bottle of something in it that blew out the water and stayed it over the winter to keep the water out. I guess I'll have to diagnose a blockage in the other skimmer.

I tried to add more pictures but apparently I'm over my limit.

New to pools. Lots of questions

I bought a house this past winter in upstate NY. The pool was already closed and I wouldn't know what I was looking for even if it was open. The previous owner always had the same compaly come out and open and close it. We had the same company open it this past Friday, more because I had no...
