Losing a 1/2" to a 1 inch in a couple days when waterfall is active from spa

Losing a 1/2" over a couple of days can very well be evaporation especially when running the waterfall. Do you lose water in the hot tub when the pump is off. I've got the same configuration as you. Waterfalls or any water flow like a waterfall will cause more water to evaporate.

    North Texas landscaping ideas needed

I live in Maryland and I have 2 windmill palms that I have planted outside and they came right back after last year's winter which was below zero and very harsh. You won't have any problems with your windmill palms. I put a small wire mesh around my trunks about 1' out and add mulch and then...

    Determining Leak in Pool

I wanted to post this comment on determining water leaks. I've read a lot about water leaks and had a leak at my skimmers. Not only did I do a bucket test to confirm, but I also have an SWG in my pool and an EASY way to determine if you have a leak in your pool is when the salt level begins to...

    InteliChlor IC40 Cell Light Blinking

Just a suggestion for those of you who have been through more than one cell. I replace my good cell with a bad cell during my NON-SWG use during the winter, so even if I'm running the pump, I'm using a dummy SWG that went bad in the past. It's a 5-minute switch. You don't need to buy the dummy...

Poll and spillover spa - 1 or 2 pumps?

I've got a spa and pool that runs off of the same pump with different valving to run each seperately. I do not divert any water away from the filter and my pump runs 24 hours/day 365 days/year and it's been running for 2 years straight without any issues. I winterize the pool during the winter...

    Retaining wall delima

I used 57 stone behind my wall. I've got 2 - 4' walls and did it over 2 years ago. No sign of any movement and I've got a pretty big hill/driveway behind the wall. I always thought you should always use 57 stone for good drainage behind the wall. I've got perforated pipe running the entire wall...

    Cost of inground pool?

To give you an idea of a pretty nice pool, we purchased a high-end (In-ground, gunnite, heater, swg, etc) for $59K in MD. When we were all done with the pool house, walls around the pool and landscaping, etc, I doubled the price. I did all the work myself except for the pool installation, so it...

    What's your current pool temp?

Mine was 101 yesterday. Wednesday night we hit the hot tub and I thought I turned off the heater when switching it all back to pool/hot tub mode. Came home to a wonderfully warm 101 degree pool. Going to take advantage of it during the weekend prior to the gas bill arriving.

Is there such a thing as a shock-free pool?

I've had shock bags that were provided to me from the PB since 2010. Never used them yet.

    Why do trichlor tablets exist?

I like using the trichlor tablets at the beginning of the year with my SWG pool since it doesn't work until it gets up to 70 degrees. Each of the two years I opened my pool, my CYA was ZERO, so I added minimum of CYA to get it up and then used the trichlor tablets for a month or more until my...

Mt pH is driving me crazy!!!

I've got one waterfall from my hot tub into the pool and an swg and I go through close to a gallon of muriatic acid each week. The small price to pay. That's just about all I add throughout the year except for a little salt and CH additions at the beginning and sometimes some CYA additions, but...

    Pool Houses!

My entire construction of my pool house is at http://www.golfmd.com/baurphotoalbum/poolconstruction I created mine by finding ideas by simply googling pool house. If you have access to natural gas, a gas pool heater for the size of your pool would be realtively cheap and very effective.

Broke the plug used to drain the pump ... ideas?

It's plastic correct. Use an screw extraction tool. Essentially, it's a progressive drill bit with reverse threads, so it's slightly conical. They come in all sizes. I would drill a hole through the center of the plug and get a screw extraction tool that is suited for the drill size. You can...

    Replacing mastic around flagstone

That looks quite like mine did after one year. I had a concrete deck around the pool and it is about 1/2 higher in some areas. I used the self-leveling caulk with foam backers. I think you need to simply insure that you seal off everything so the caulk can't escape is the main reason behind...

**Please Help**Questions about starting up new plaster pool

Re: **Please Help**Questions about starting up new plaster p Just keep in mind also, when using an SWG, you will still need to add chlorine when temperatures are low and your pool isn't winterized during the fall and spring. Same as what you'll have for the first month prior to using the SWG...

    ColorQ vs TF100

I find it funny that you look at the results and get so worried about numbers straying what I would consider a small amount. Now I will say that my FC is always much closer than you had measured. The ColorQ comes up with good numbers each time that I test between that and the TF-100. Though they...

PLEASE HELP, WHICH VALVES TO TURN ON HOT TUB

I'm one up on Richard. I set all the valves correctly for pool mode and took a picture. I set all the valves correctly for spa mode and took a picture. Labeled each appropriately and now Lana can set up pool mode or spa mode whenever she wants. You do want to turn off the drain for the spa if...

    Hot tub vs. inground spa

When it's below freezing you would have to run your pump full-time. I run my pump full-time all through the year. I've bought a timer to eliminate some of the run-time, but haven't yet installed it. It is best to run it full-time during the winter to keep the temperature at 70 degrees full-time...

    Stone Coping vs. Concrete Coping

I have travertine coping and an SWG and I have no issues with any salt related degradation after 2 years so far. I also have PA Bluestone as coping on my hot tub and have no issues with any salt related degradation after 2 years so far with that also, so it really depends on what kind of stone...

New IG installation--Skimmer doesn't look right?

I'm not a pool builder, but I know my skimmers have "floating" sides to eliminate any heaving of the concrete deck. They may still need to add a part to the skimmer. Why not ask the PB to determine what he'll say. He may give you an explanation that will satisfy your concerns. I do know without...

Easiest way to plumb outdoor kitchen

I'll give you an example of what I did and how I hooked it up. I teed off of PVC in my downstairs bedroom with 3/4" rigid PVC that ran out to an outside faucet. I ran the T'd section to the location where both my electric and gas went to my new pool. Ran rigid 3/4" PVC through that 3' ditch out...

    Ph keeps rising

Well, I've had my pool since August 2010 and I continue to add approximately 1 gallon of muriatic acid about every 10 days to keep my pH in check. I do have an SWG and a waterfall that drops about 1 foot and 1 foot wide. Just a part of doing business. I don't think my plaster is still curing. I...
