    Right borax? No borates test

Hi, long time low PH struggler. Jets that bubble son't do enough. Alkalinity could be a bit higher, so added some soda ash. But also considering adding borax. Thing is, I don't have a testing kit for borates (taylors not readily available down under). We also don't have 20 mule borax. We have...

Haha I thought this part of the forum was a bit more active. It was like the 3rd post and didn't look at the date :D My bad!

Targeted Facebook adds on pool stuff

    How much liters/gallons during backwashing?

Thanks Brad. I just spoke to the pool building company and they said it needs at least four 600x600 soakwells, sjeez...I can't put that into the ground without redoing my entire garden. Besides that like you said, you are pumping quite a bit of chlorine/salt water into the ground...hmm

    How much liters/gallons during backwashing?

The pool has bene placed last week. I took pictures of everything, which I'll share soon :-) Anyway, we need to sort the backwashing of our sand filter. In Perth, Western Australia, you have to ditch the water inground in a soakwell How much liter/gallon do you flush away during a backwash...

The pool has been ordered. I will keep you posted when they commence the building process (end of Nov)

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Or maybe we just estimated it higher ;P Isn't too bad though. - - - Updated - - - I'll be honest, if it wasn't for the wife and kids, I probably wouldn't have had a pool build. Oh well :) You'd better start swimming a lot to make it worthwhile!

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Sooo, got the quote back - Upgrade to grade 12 is +$260. - Led lights have the (transformer I think he called it) near the equipment. - The sand filter is Astral CA280 Glass Media Filter including Glass Media - He said to have the equipment 12M - 15M from the Pool he advised to upgrade the pump...

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Alright, I'll see what they'll say. If the 40mm for the return isn't that much of a biggie, I will probably leave it as is. We are stretching our budget. Class12 sounds like a good idea as we have quite a few bushes/trees between the pool and where the equipment will be. It's only $550...

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Ah cheers, that makes sense. In our current pool the pool light broke and they quote between $500 and $1000 (AUD) to have it fixed. Mind you it was an old one and the bracket was c**p. But because it was below water level it was a hassle. Hassle = high costs.

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Cheers mate! I appreciate your effort for even making a video :-) That looks like plenty of action to me! But how would a blower affect it? As that takes akes away pressure from the jets. Originally I was quite happy with the heating pump we have now, but it's $1200 more. I figured for that...

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Alright, so as it seems; - Astral P320XT Variable Speed Pump - Astral Booster Pump (TX model I think) to go with a blower for the Jets + bubbles - Astral Viron EQ35 Salt Chlorinator with PH Sensor with Bluetooth (this has auto acid injection) - Astral HP88 9kW Heat Pump - Read quite a few good...

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Right... They said you needed a stronger pump for it and advised against it. In the other corner we have this feature wall: It's horizontally placed in the corner. In other words, there is A LOT of room behind it which is wasted space. If we can place our pool equipment there that would be...

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

The challenge we have is space for the equipment. We do have quite a bit of space on the other side of the garden as one corner is out of sight and quite a bit of space there. But we are talking about 15 meters away from the pool. The pool building companies we talked to advised this distance is...

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Cheers guys! I have requested a quote for the EQ35... The filter is an Astral ZX100 with a 6h turnover of 135k Liters. No idea if that is "good" lol. The ZX150 does 160k liter, above that the increases become quite small. The Astral P320XT is a 1HP pump. Is that sufficient for jets + spa blower?

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Awesome Riley, thanks again for your indepth reply. As the pool is roughly 34k Liters, 2x = 68k Liters. That's pretty close to the 60k Limit the manufacturer gives us? Is there a downside to going for even bigger (IE the 35)? I understand the purchase price is higher. Spare parts? Running...

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Sorry for the late response guys. Hassle with some finance approvals and building inspections. Drained all the energy last few days. Haha thanks Dirk! I use a proper kit with drop testing. Basically a Taylor kit, but that's not really available properly in Australia, so I use my kit from...

New pool - what do you think of this equipment?

Hey guys, My name is Rick and I am a clean water addict. or should I say: I have been clean for x months? Aaaanyway, we bought a new place without a pool, but we'll build one in the next 2 months. In regards to the equipment, we got this equipment quoted from the pool building company: -...

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

Cheers, but that doesn't explain 25ppm+ FC loss in 2.5 hours...I searched for it on the forums, but I can't find anything this extreme.

Pool Heater, Heat Pump or Both?

We got a pool cover, 9watt electric heat pump and 5KW solar panels since a month and a half. Works wonders. (I must say I live in sunny Western Australia though). I will turn it off during winter months.

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

2.5 hours later. FC is 0 again...wow. I already drained 15%-20% of my pool four times in the last 2 days. What on earth is going on... edit: must say I forgot to brush the walls etc last 2 hours. Do note there is no visible algae.

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

Alright, but with CYA not being very clear, I can't really determine shock level, can I? I'll see what the level is in half an hour or so. Thanks for your help mknauss.

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

Yep I am positive that it is the right test. Additionally to reading the label, there is no other bottle with powder (detection) like that and I have no other bottle that is so empty as the Chlorine reagent :) This time I just chucked in heaps of liquid chlorine (I know I shouldn't do it like...

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

Alright, I have just done a test and FC seems to be (at least) 32. I say at least, because the water usually turns from red (high FC) to pink to transparent. Now it turned to orange/yellow-ish colour after 32ppm. I kept dripping to 38ppm but the colour didn't change any more and I don't have a...

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

I use this test kit: Total Pool Water Testing Kit, Salt Water Clear Choice Labs It is their own brand. There is no visible algae and the reagents are less than 2 months old. In regards to the CYA. I fill the tube with water then with the reagent, but the cap on and shake for 30 seconds. Then...

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

Happy new year everyone! It's been a month since it got fixed and a month later we are back to the drawing board. I didn't measure FC for two weeks and then when I read it, it was 0. So I did a CYA test, 90ppm. And added a lot of liquid chlorine to get the FC to above 31. But it got eaten...

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes it was 33000 LITER not gallons. I recalculated the area and it is more likely 30000 LITER (7900 gallon). It's a kidney shape so not a walk in the park to calculate the right amount. I have been draining water yesterday and refilling the pool quite a bit to...

Am I just stupid? Troubles with all chems

Another not-so-proud owner of a green pool the other day. With the pool shop overcharging tremendously on pool chemicals, I wanted to take matters in my own hand. I got a drop test kit for cya, chlorine, calcium, salt, ph and alkalinity. I tested the CYA to be below 30. My kit couldn't give me a...
