    Air Leak

Update on my air leak This all started back in 2010 with air leaking into my system. I could see air it in the pump basket and it really bothered me. There were always little bubbles shooting into the pool. If you got into the pool, they were on you. The water was never clear when looking...

    Air Leak

Update: Changing from a 1HP to 0.75 HP pump did stop the air leak for a short while. It did come back later in 2013. I have just lived with it for the last 5 years. Had to replace my liner this year and redid the pipes underground, still have the same air leak. A contractor recommended that I...

    Gap between coping and cement

Wanted to know if I should be worried about a gap between the coping and the concrete apron around the pool. A lot of water ends up going between the two. Is this going to be a problem or should I put something like caulking I between the two

    Mesh Covers vs. Tarps

Update on this original question I asked or using a tarp with a mesh safety cover. I put down my mesh over and then layed the tarp over the top. Whenever I got water on top, I pumped it off. Just opened my pool. It is crystal clear. Just some worms on the bottom. I guess they crawled under the...

    Need New Pump?

Thanks to everyone for all their help. I had absolutely no luck finding a 115 V two speed pump that would not be more powerful than my current pump. I ended up getting the Hayward 0.75 HP Super Pump to replace my Hayward 1.0 HP Super Pump. It is working great. In years past, I always had air...

    Need New Pump?

http://www.aquasupercenter.com/products ... 21544.html What about the whisperflo 3/4 go? I can't get anyone to send out the superfluous. Looks like I can get the whisper flip next day. Would this be too much pump for my pool or will it work?

    Need New Pump?

The service factor on the Hayward Super Pump 0.75 HP is 1.0. I am really in to saving money on electricity over the life of the pump. I like to run my pump 24/7. I know that I will save money with the Hayward SP 0.75 HP over the 1 HP Hayward. If I can't find a way to get the Pentair 2 speed, I...

    Need New Pump?

Any advice on a comparable two speed pump that may work? I guess I could just purchase the motor instead if that is easy enough to change out on my own

    Need New Pump?

Not sure what my current pump is wired for. It is not a plug in type, but is hardwired. How can I tell? I have a volt meter, I guess I could check that out. 1 HP SF 1.1 model/serial number C48K2N143B1 I am not really looking to replace the motor. I would rather just get a new pump. Thanks...

    Need New Pump?

Went to start up my pool for the season and my pump was just making a faint humming sounds. After a few seconds of that, the breaker went off in the house. I have been wanting to get a new pump, so maybe this is my chance! I have a Hayward Super Pump 1 HP 115V/230V. I have a Hayward Pro Serier...

    Raising pH

I am using trichlor in a chlorinator. I guess that means I need either keep working on the pH or try to stick with liquid chlorine if possible

    Raising pH

Re checked my pH today. pH is back down to 7.2. Two days ago I had it moving up and it was 7.4 ish. What causes pH to trend downwards? My TA was 120 a few weeks ago when I checked it.

    Raising pH

Rectangular pool. Shallow end is about 3.5 feet deep and deep end is about 7.5 feet deep. I have calculated pool size before and I am fairly certain it is 20,000 gallons based on some weird layout features in the deep end.

    Raising pH

Thanks for all the responces. I do believe my pool holds more water than I "thought". The pool calculator defaulted to 10,000 gallons so my calculations were all off!! I have fixed that. I do use the taylor drop kit. I never thought that my reading will not go below 6.8. I guess I could have...

    Raising pH

I am having trouble getting my pH back up here. I just finished shocking my pool. I have a CYA of 30, TA of 120 (last check about 1 week ago). My FC is at 6 tonight. 2 nights ago I added three pounds of soda ash because my pH was at about 7. It appeared to stay at 7 when I checked the next day...

    Filtering algae

Got into the pool tonight to look at the water. WHile everything looks clear above water, when I get and look around with goggles, it is very cloudy. I can't see the entire length of my pool!

    Filtering algae

I got in a few days ago and cleaned behind the light niche. To my surprise, it was clean. I remember last year when I did this a huge piece of alage came out! Good idea on getting in all the pool toys and such to make sure they are algae free as well!

    Filtering algae

Sorry, To clarify Pool is clear and blue, but I am still losing FC over night and have 1.0 CC. I also have that chlorine smelll, so I know organics are still being killed

    Filtering algae

We brush once to twice a day. I was backwashing daily as the pressure was going from 12 to 20-22 once a day. Over the last 24 hours, the pressure has not increased at all, but like I said, the water is very clear and blue. So what is my shock level? I thought it was 13 based on my CYA of 30 and...

    Filtering algae

Update: My pool has been looking better each and every day. I am now on day 11 of shocking my pool since opening. The looks clear and blue today, but I still have a 2-3 ppm FC drop (18 to 15) overnight and my CC is 1.0. My pH was 7.1 last night so I added 3 lbs of soda ash and my pH this morning...

    New Pipes

That is genious!!! Thank you for the advice of running the line outside the pool first. Another question, is it possible that there is a leak under the pump basket, just before the super pump? I see wanter underneath that is leaking out. I am sure that it is not from the lid. It is coming from...

    New Pipes

All, I have been struggling with an air leak in my system for the last two years. I can not find the air leak above ground. I know it must be underground. I have 1.5 inch pipes and from everything I have learned on here, I believe that my pump is oversized. I am not sure if I can just get a 3/4...

    Mustard Algae

This all sounds like my pool last year. I had the yellow greenish light coating that poofs away like dust and came right back. I don't think I ever got rid of it. This thread has really motivated me to get rid of this stuff at the beginning of the season!

    Filtering algae

Ok, I now have my FC up to 20 and will keep it there overnight. Just checked my levels and I am right at 20 FC and 1 CC. I will keep it there tonight and hopfully things get better soon. The pool looks blue, just super cloudy!!

    Filtering algae

I have been reading that the dead algae should sink to the bottom. Looking at my pool, it is blue now, but super clowdy. It doesn't appear that anything is sinking to the bottom. I opened the pool on 5-17. We are now at 5-21 and the visibility is barely better. I started off not being able to...
