    When to replace liner?

Thanks for the replies and the detailed description of your experience, I think I'm going to try to get through this year and replace it next season (before opening). Although I consider myself a DIYer for many projects my confidence in taking this on is not high so I do think I'll get a pro in...

    When to replace liner?

I have an ABG that is going into season #10 and it has the original liner. I really don't have any issues (yet) but I have patched a few minor holes in the last few years with complete success (just using the vinyl patches). So my question- should I just replace the liner because of the age and...

Is it ok to leave solar cover on for long periods?

Thanks for the replies, it does make sense to let the sunshine in every few days.

Is it ok to leave solar cover on for long periods?

I wasn't sure if leaving the solar cover on for long periods (e.g. on vacation etc.) had any negative impacts on pool chemistry? We will make sure the chemicals (Bleach) are being put in during these periods, but didn't know if it was better to take the cover off for any reason? Thanks

    Hayward Filter Lock Ring...came off!

This happened to me too- not sure of the best way to handle, but I took my rubber mallet and was able to lossen it. I also have issues getting the ring to lock properly so I often need to give it a whack to seal it. Try using some lube (Jacks Lube works well) to help. Good luck.

Any benefit from bubbles-up solar blanket?

I really don't think there's going to be much of a difference in results (up or down), the main benefits from a solar cover are keeping in the heat, reducing evaporation and it also decrease chlorine usage. I would not worry if it's up or down you'll still benefit from having it on, although I...

    False Initial PH reading

I use the Taylor K-2006 test kit and have noticed that I frequently get an initial false PH reading well below what it measures the second (or third ) time. I usually measure my Chlorine first so I tried to change it by measuring PH first, but I still get the initial false reading. I always...

    Round, Rectangular, Oval.....

We have an oval and we really enjoy being able to swim laps, and in our situation it fits our yard better as it takes up less space then a round pool would. I believe one of the benefits of round is they're usually less $$, but besides that it probably comes down to personal choice...

    Round vs Oval?

I live in the Chicago area (sw suburbs) and we like the oval for swimming laps. We have not had any issues with snow build up, and it's our 5th year. I could be wrong but I think you would get a round for 2 reasons, lower cost and space limitations, other than that I think an oval is the way to...

    Low PH level

I got my PH up (using PH-Up from the pool store) to 7.4, so for the time being I'm ok. I almost exclusively use bleach to chlorinate except when I went on my recent 10 day vacation (I "shocked with bleach and floated several pucks). Not only was the pool crystal clear when I came back but I...

    Low PH level

Actually I gave you the wrong test kit # mine is K-2006 and my PH tube only goes down to 7.0 and since It's never a perfect match it makes me wonder if I'm at 7.1 or 6.8 or less. But I guess it may be irrelevant because if it's that low I should raise it anyway like you said. Thanks for the help.

    Low PH level

I have one of the recommended test kits (K-2005), but it only goes as low as 7.0, so I'm really not sure how low it is or was, but recently my son complained of eye irritation so I will definitely raise it today, but how do you get accurate PH readings below 7.0? Thanks Again

    Low PH level

I have been running a low PH for most of this season (mostly between 7.0 and 7.2). What are the negative effects of running a low PH? I will probably put in some borax tonight to raise it to the 7.4-7.6 level, but just currious if running it low can cause any permanent/temporary damgage. Thanks...

Ideas for keeping skimmer basket in its place?

Not sure if this is a unique issue I have, but my skimmer basket always pops out of position as soon as the pump turns off. If I don't remember to re-position the basket the pump will not run as well because the out of place basket slows water flow. I thought of putting something in the basket...
