    Question about Hayward multiport valve

I have a Harward sand filter with a top-mounted multiport valve. I need to remove the tank for some repairs. Can I support the multiport valve and run it on recirculate without the tank attached? It's plumbed with flex PVC, so I can lift it and remove the tank. Thanks!

    Compupool cell burned

Update: I repaired the leaky cell with JBWeld and it seems to hold pressure. I used electrical ground connectors to attach the three wires to the cell terminals. However, there is a 4th wire - a thin, black wire. I can't see anything to connect it to. Any ideas? When I turn the unit on, it runs...

    Compupool cell burned

Need some advice. My CPSC-16 cell burned where the power cable disc attaches to the cell. Oddly enough, it was still generating to some degree. My question - should I order a replacement cell or go with another brand (or method)? The unit is 4 years old, so the cell was probably on its way out...

    SWG is so boring

I check my chems every few days and it's always FC=4 & pH=7.4. Oh, and sparkly water. Nothing to do. ZZZZZZ

Could someone explain this to me -Chlorine levels...

Said another way, if you start out at 1.0 - 1.5, you can quickly go to 0 and algae will gain a foothold. Better to have a little reserve.Good luck!

    Help with Compupool CPSC16

Are you sure the unit is set to external timer? Hold the select button down for several seconds to page through the options and set to external.

New DIY Vinyl IG Pool Base/Bottom Problems - Please help!!!

Re: New DIY Vinyl IG Pool Base/Bottom Problems - Please help When we replaced our in ground liner last year, I patched with sand/cement and used a pool pad to cover the entire bottom. This worked out great. You may want to try it. I like the thin set idea - wish I had thought of that!

    Compupool dummy housing

I know you can buy a replacement cell housing, but it's kinda spendy. Is there a cheap alternative that can be cobbled with PVC fittings?

    SWG fun & games

Finally got my Compupool SWG installed, but not without excitement. I mounted and wired the control unit okay. Then I cut the return line and started a geyser of water. It quickly dawned on me that the return fittings are about a foot above where I cut. One flash flood later, I blocked the...

    Compupool SWCG issues

I added some chlorine and tossed a couple of pucks in the skimmer. Do the hydrogen bubbles indicate the SWG is generating chlorine?

    Compupool SWCG issues

Here's my test results. Question - if I see a "cloud" coming off the cell plates, does that indicate it is working? If so,it sure does not seem to be producing much chlorine. FC .5 pH 7.6 TA 22 CYA 35 CH 7 salt 2900 per pool store, Compupool display shows 7200???

    Compupool SWCG issues

I installed a CPSC16 last weekend. It is rated for 20K gallons; my pool is 11K. I've been running it at 70% for three days and the FC is still below 1%. Water is perfectly clear, but it seems it should be making more chlorine. Here's the rest. The salt calculator said said I needed a bit over...

Compupol CPSC - horizontal or vertical mounting?

My instructions said to mount horizontally, but to mount vertically, if required. I split the difference and mounted it diagonally.

    Compupool wiring question

Thanks for the help! Another question; the manual shows connecting the SWG to the pump timer. Seems like you would need to have power to the SWG all the time for it to retain its program memory. Do I need to have a constant power source and just set the SWG timer to come on during the pump run...

    Compupool wiring question

My SWG showed up today! It came set to 220V - I need 110. I haven't opened the unit yet, but changing the jumpers seems simple enough. Here's my question - the power cable is just bare wires; green, red and black. For 220V, my guess is the red and black are the hot leads. What about 110V?

    Question on CompuPool SWG

I finally took the plunge and ordered a SWG. The manual says to mount the cell horizontally - my question is, why? Will it not work unless completely horizontal, or not work as well? Just curious. Can't wait to get this thing working!

How many Southerners are closing their pool?

I've had pretty good luck with covering the pump, filter & pipes with a tarp and hanging a drop cord with a 100-watt bulb underneath. I'll turn it on for a few days when the temps drop below 20 degrees. About 15 years ago I forgot to turn it on and had the pump housing crack. I fixed it with a...

    Algae - I guess

I have had a couple of stained areas on my liner, on the side slope in the deep end. I've brushed vigorously, with little effect; it's been there for several weeks. I was about to decide it was metal staining or something bleeding through from the back side. Anyhow, I brought the FC up to shock...

Why not Flexpipe? Why 2" rigid?

I used a mix of rigid and flex when I built my inground pool. Am I in trouble?

    Interesting pool store info

Just went to the local pool store for muriatic acid. I asked if they sold liquid chlorine and the lady said it is illegal to sell it in Mississippi. Ever heard of anything like that? I wonder if the Home Depot down the street knows about that. They have it on the shelf.

Anyone use an Intex unit in an inground pool ?

I plan to do exactly that, though it may be after swim season this year or next spring. I've only seen pictures of the unit, but I'd like to remove the cell from the base and install it in my return line. I may have to extend the wiring to the control unit. To get around any possible electrical...

Negatives of using bleach? And bleach vs. liquid chlorine?

I've been using bleach for a couple of months with great results. The only downside for me is having to carry those heavy bottles. If I had access to 12%, I would get that so I'd have half as many to deal with. Local pool stores don't carry it. Home Depot has 10%, but the bottles look like they...

    Galloping pH

Started using BBB this year; so far, so good. The water looks great, but I've really been fighting pH levels. It keeps wanting to rise to 8.0. I'll add muriatic acid to bring it back to 7.0 - 7.2. I do have a wall fountain that keeps the pool aerated. Within two days, back to 8.0. TA is 130...

How to convince my wife and FIL that BBB is the way to go

I also maintained my pool for about 10 years with pucks and other pool store chemicals. Now I understand why I would always lose control of the pool late in the season and it would turn green. I didn't realize my CYA would steadily climb until the free chlorine was no longer effective. I started...

    The Dig Is Too Deep!

I haven't heard of using concrete pipes, but I have heard of using sonotubes (cylindrical forms) filled with concrete. The bottom would rest on the concrete bond beam around the base of the walls. The top would help support the deck and keep it from settling. Seems to me the concrete pipes would...

Tired of carrying bottles, anyone switch to granular chlor?

I used granular chlorine for several years, per the pool store's advice. I'm convinced that this contributed to my liner's early demise. The entire bottom, especially in the deep end, looked like wrinkled leather. When we removed the liner, you could easily tear it by hand. This was a 6-year old...

Being *ahem* frugal, I would go with borrowing the transit instead of renting a laser.

Are HTH test kits worth purchasing?

I use the HTH kit for daily testing, once I have the pool in a stable condition. I test with the Taylor kit 1-2 times a week for a more thorough look at my pool chemistry. Saves those expensive reagents.

about adding DE to a sand filter

I used to add a little (about a cup) to my skimmer to "help" the sand filter out dead algae. It will make your pressure spike quickly as the sand bed becomes clogged. Keep a good watch on it. It does seem to help.

    Eating my words-better than bugs!!

We seem to attract all manner of bugs to our pool, but especially pine beetles. Every day, there are dozens in the skimmer basket and many more clinging to anything in the pool. Luckily, they don't seem to bite, unless you're a pine tree.
