    Autopilot CS30 Issue

Wow this doesn't sound good. I'm considering moving to a SWG over the winter b/c the cost and availability of liquid chlorine has become a nightmare. The CS30 looked great, but I'm planning to DIY and don't want to deal w/ a bunch of warranty issues. What's the best alternative?

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

Anyone know a bulk liquid chlorine source in Austin TX? I built a Stenner pump injector which has made life a lot easier but I'd love to find a source for liquid chlorine in larger than the 1gal jugs I've been getting from Lowes or HomeDepot (best price, highest concentrations I've found thus...

High cya even after draining pool down to 18 inches

I believe sockmonkey is saying they drained all of the pool except the last 18 inches. That's probably a significant water exchange.

Is this black algae??? Or something else due to the plaster defects....

I was mistaken about aeration. I have none. Thanks for the tips, I'll give the pucks and C a try...I'm betting it's organic. I've got an algae brush on the way.

Is this black algae??? Or something else due to the plaster defects....

After some more reading on the 'net I think it is what I think it is... Going to order a stainless brush (no I don't have one) and also read a suggestion to rub a chlorine puck on the spot. I'll try that as well. There was a little greenish to it when I last swam down to look closely. I do...

Is this black algae??? Or something else due to the plaster defects....

Need a second opinion....does this look like black algae to you guys or some other kind of oxidation/reaction? The touch is slightly slippery but not overly slimy. I'm a fairly new pool owner (Oct 2017). I successfully fought a green algae issue in January using the SLAM but now I have what...

I haven't thought about that but will check. The ladders in the deep end have built in step pockets. I have been brushing those. It didn't think about behind the weirs. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk

Thanks...chlorine consumption in cold water is mostly what I was referring to. It seemed really strange to see 0 loss in the OCLT with as much green as I had but it was really cold that night (air temp low 20s). I've been doing an OCLT pretty much every night now out of curiosity and I'm...

I was thinking the same thing about the CYA. The ColorQ had been really consistently in the low 50s for a while then suddenly dropped to the 30s when the FC was bumped way up. I've been targeting more like 20 rather than 16 thinking it couldn't hurt. I can bump it up to 24. I was also...

I did another OCLT last night. Took measurements, then brushed the pool really good again before going to bed. This time I lost 3ppm overnight. Clarity is still bad but getting a little better.

I haven't cracked the filter open yet but was planning to soon. I've seen the video on deep cleaning a sand filter. What else should I be looking for? I have some chlorine pucks but I'll have to get some vitamin C.

Not sure on the replaster. It's a 62' mid century modern house that hadn't been touched inside. Original carpet, etc. Maybe we can do the plaster this spring if we get the inside under control and have any money or we may have to live with it as is for a year and regroup. It doesn't seem to be...

I'll take some pictures of the steps and see if I can capture the plume that brushing kicks up. Yesterday it was looking more brown than green but the pool overall still has a green tint. I put some skimmer socks in a few days ago...the really fine material I am trapping there is brown.

OCLT showed 0 loss overnight. FC was at 19 after dark and still 19 this morning before sunrise. CC still basically 0...really really slight hint of pink that cleared with a single drop. Water clarity is still not good. It was really cold overnight for Texas (water temp is 45F) but as far as I...

Agree, I'm pretty confident I have a handle on the testing. I think I just expected to see higher CC given the amount of green that should be getting consumed by the FC. But I didn't know that CC was fairly transient or that it was consumed by FC. So that was kinda a light bulb. Agree the filter...

My Taylor instructions say 2 scoops of powder. I've elsewhere read 1 heaping or 2 level scoops. I've stuck with two level because to me that's repeatable. How much is "heaping"... Seems too subjective. What I was a little unsure of was just the CC portion of the test. Instructions are a little...

I'll do an OCLT tonight and report back. I run blanks on the ColorQ every time I test. Process is to run a blank, then add drops to that sample to test FC, then additional drops for Total chlorine, then fresh samples for PH, TA, etc. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk

Yes, running the filter 24/7. PH was 7.7 before I started and I added some acid to lower it per the calculator but forgot to measure before I started the Slam, but per the math should have been in range. My last CYA before starting was mid 50s so was targeting 20 and I've been north of 16 for...
