2-1/2" pump outlet - much tighter threads than my old filter hose

Thanks, RLP. I meant to come back and update this thread last week, but that's exactly what I did - used 1-1/2" PVC and used the inner threads for the connection to the pump. Now to see if the place I bought the new Pentair hose from will take it back...

2-1/2" pump outlet - much tighter threads than my old filter hose

Friends, I just had to replace my old Pentair #340210 1.5HP pump (see this thread if interested) connected to my Sand Dollar SD40 sand filter. Thankfully, the inlet plumbing and base alignment is perfect and needs no adjustments (sigh of relief!!) Unfortunately, the 2-1/2" OD pump outlet has...

Pentair Dynamo 1.5HP pump - bad noise - repair/replacement options?

I did find some replacement motors, but as 1poolman1 said, the cost was right about the same as a new matched pump/motor set. I decided to go that route, with a standard Doheny 1.5 HP model. Hopefully it connects well and easily - but I remain a little skeptical!

Pentair Dynamo 1.5HP pump - bad noise - repair/replacement options?

Thanks, Zea3. Are you pretty sure it's the motor and not the pump?

Pentair Dynamo 1.5HP pump - bad noise - repair/replacement options?

Hopefully the link I provided works fine. Does anybody know if Pentair has released a newer motor/pump that is equivalent? Or more likely, it's a whole new pump/filter/base design that's altogether different, right? Is there any way to determine if a new/different pump-motor would fit easily?

Pentair Dynamo 1.5HP pump - bad noise - repair/replacement options?

Thank You, and I'm sorry about the short video - I was trying to make the video smaller so it could be uploaded, and then I found out that MP4 wasn't even a supported format. Here's a slightly longer video, and I edited the link in the original post to point to this one as well.

Pentair Dynamo 1.5HP pump - bad noise - repair/replacement options?

Friends, this motor/pump came with my SD40 filter 7 years ago, and I replaced the motor/pump 4 years ago after the first one was flooded (that's a long story.) It's a single speed pump and has been sounding a tiny bit noisy for the past 1-2 years, and has a very slight leak from the pump some...

Connecting ABS filter outlet to PVC for my SWG.

That would have been perfect for my original installation! I have a standard 2" union after up-sizing to 2" PVC, which connects to my SWG section of pipe. Since I don't really have time to wait to get one of these, I am going to use the same configuration that I originally had. So helpful to...

Connecting ABS filter outlet to PVC for my SWG.

OK, so to follow up on this, I have done a little more exploration and it turns out that I missed something REALLY obvious. The PVC fitting was actually screwed in to the inside of the ABS outlet from the SD-40 filter top. So I could simply unscrew it (although difficult because there wasn't...

Connecting ABS filter outlet to PVC for my SWG.

Thanks so much, everyone!! So the union kit has a 2" PVC joint that I can tap into? As for removing the current PVC, is it OK to cement PVC inside ABS plastic? Anything special I should be aware of for that scenario?

Connecting ABS filter outlet to PVC for my SWG.

It's been a long time since I posted. A few years back, I cemented a 1.5" to 2" PVC pipe adapter inside this ABS filter outlet on my Sand Dollar filter for my AGP. There's a union that connects to my salt water chlorinator after this. Today, it broke off (I'll spare you the details). It...

Flooded Pentair AGP pump - what to do?

Thanks, Dan. I had gotten some advice from some others on FaceBook to use WD-40, and I did. Left it out in the sun to dry today, and then fired it up. It lives to pump another day!! Granted, it may have lost some of its life, but I've already gotten over 2 years out of it, so I can't complain.

Flooded Pentair AGP pump - what to do?

Thanks folks. I will definitely try to avoid polluting the air with "the magic smoke" and hopefully get it to work again! Also will re-think the current setup and maybe put in a drainage pipe before the next hurricane season!

Flooded Pentair AGP pump - what to do?

We had about 11 inches of rain over the past couple of days, thanks to Florence. Because our pool is on a sloping lawn and we didn't think through where to put the pump, it is on the uphill side and so it sits level with the bottom of the AG pool, inside a makeshift box to hold back the...

Plumbing my new SWCG for my AGP

My 14.5K AGP came with a Pentair/SandDollar 1.5HP pump and sand filter, and my Saltron Retro SWCG died again this year after getting the cell replaced under warranty last year. I just purchased a CircuPool SJ-40 generator and intend to plumb and wire it myself. Unfortunately, although I have...

Seeking suggestions for in-line SWG for 14.5K AGP

We got our AGP two years ago, and the Saltron Retro over-the-edge SWG has died twice now -- thankfully the first time was under warranty. It was under-sized anyway, but did the job. I think it would be best to go with a higher-output (but preferably adjustable) inline SWG, and would love some...

Possible algae issue, overnight confusion, vacation planning

Thank you both! Yeah, that was a recent pH test (same day I discovered dead SWG and FC of 1.5), and it used to tend to rise due to the SWG. I will add the required acid to bring it back down, do an OCLT tonight, and hope it comes out as clean as the water appears already. I won't try to...

Possible algae issue, overnight confusion, vacation planning

Thanks so much for your reply! No, I didn't go back to the excellent sticky post here first to see that I needed to lower pH to 7.2 before I added a bunch of bleach. My bad. :-/ Can pH be lowered now, with the caveat that I won't be able to verify what I've lowered it to until I eventually...

Possible algae issue, overnight confusion, vacation planning

Yesterday, I tested our AGP and discovered that the FC had mysteriously dropped to 1.5 and then realized that our over-the-edge SWG had stopped working -- I guess I should have been paying more attention. :-/ pH was 7.6, TA was 60, and CYA was 60. Based on the low FC, I assumed a high risk of...

Is this my first issue with algae?

Don, I appreciate your sharing your view, but I honestly don't understand this from a science perspective. I am not RELYING on the SWG to bring the FC up to Shock level, only hoping it will help hold back the downward FC pressure from fighting algae. How can adding FC slowly alongside of...

Is this my first issue with algae?

Thanks Jason and Marty! We have not added any chemicals other than Walmart brand "cleaning bleach" and Clorox brand pool salt (yesterday). CYA is at 65 tonight and CC seems to be around 1 - 1.5 (checked before adding bleach and an hour after). Pool is clear now. Filter was close to 20 psi...

Is this my first issue with algae?

A week after starting SLAM, we are seeing some progress but questioning if we are missing something... Pool went from very cloudy greenish to less-cloudy white-ish, to almost clear. Running pump and SWG 23-24 hours a day (giving it a little break here and there) and adding approximately a...

Is this my first issue with algae?

Friends, We have a cloudy pool and I am really not sure if it is algae problem or a filter problem. Here are the facts that have me puzzled, starting with a picture: The back-story is that we went on vacation for a week and had our neighbor starting up the pump and SWG in the morning and...
