    What in the CYA???

Hello Kristi, Welcome. I am also a new pool owner, going on my second summer. You can check my tribulations last year with this post About Time But to answer your questions. My understanding is that dichlor, powder shocks, and any other non liquid chlorinators will have cya. Also cya take...

    About Time

About Time: continuing Saga I opened my pool this year in late May (22nd ish) and was greeted to a pool of clear water with a thick green shag carpet on the bottom. About what I expected. So I filled the pool back up and started to clean the green out. This didn't last long because as I was...

    Yet another aeration in progress

Wait a minute. Don't you use aeration to rase pH? "To lower TA you reduce pH to 7.0-7.2 with acid and then aerate to increase pH." that's from the poolcalculator.com page in the TA section. So wouldn't your creeping pH be a result of your aerator or am I missing something being new to this...

    Yet another aeration in progress

Yep it's been 7.2 for a week, but I've been adding about 3qts of bleach a day as I dont have a swg. So I guess its MA and pH with swg or bleach and FC without but your going to add something.

    Yet another aeration in progress

Interesting. About 5 days ago I made an aerator that screws into a return. It's just below the surface but brakes and arcs about 12 inches out of 8 7/32 holes . I also added MA to bring my TA down. 1 gallon to go from 130 to 120 and ph of 7.8 to 7.2. It's been 7.2 since. Wonders to self...

    About Time

Well bleach from Costco, and Muratic from HD, and a pvc aerator so I guess so. :) Just checked cya and it is a second test at ~240 ( 4:1 dilution and comes out about 48-49 on the cya scale). The goal was get the pool usable for company and finish dealing with the 240 lbs gorilla later. [/COLOR]↓

    About Time

Hello, Heres a story of the miss adventures of my first pool. I opened my pool mid April of 2016 after moving in last November. Not knowing any better I filled the pool from the returns to the midline of the skimmer and started to use the Clorox powder and three inch tabs in the pool. This...
