Water Balance for new plaster pool during the winter

And as the water gets colder, will I need to balance pool based on the CSI or just keep it balanced as normal?

Water Balance for new plaster pool during the winter

Thanks. I have a timer on the pump and when it stays cold will on set it to run at night and kick on when temp is below 40. The water doesn't flow much in the two skimmers farthest from the pump, but I think I'll just leave them open. Not sure about the frost level, but it is very rocky...

Water Balance for new plaster pool during the winter

Is there anything different I need to do or be aware of this winter in regards to water balance and care of a new diamond brite plastered pool? I will be keeping my pump continuously most of the winter. I do have a freeze protection system set up too. I will not be covering it and was wanting...

Ok. So can I maintain the TA at 110 when I stop using trichlor or do I need to allow it to go down some as I add acid to maintain pH?

Ok great. I'll be switching to liquid bleach in the next few days and shutting off my chlorinator. I am currently raising my CYA to 30 or so. Ive already added some stabilizer the other day, but gonna use up the last 5 or 6 trichlor pucks first which will raise CYA to about where I want it...

I thought borates helped keep pH and alkalinity changes at a minimum and also made the water feel better and look clearer. I used borates before and it made a difference. But I've never had a fountain before, so wasn't sure if this would have a significant factor on pH and TA and if the...

Thanks for the welcome. Minus getting the plaster dust out of the pool, I believe I have the pool ready for the kids to swim. Once I get my CYA level to 30ppm, I will be switching to great value brand or Clorox brand bleach for my sanitizer. I haven't added borates yet but will do that once...

Hello again, Just wanted to say hello to everyone again and update everyone with my new pool renovation that was just completed. I have a few questions and hope to get some great input as I have in the past. About four years ago I had a horrible pool guy to a re-plaster and paint job on the...

Ill just stick with the 6% liquid bleach. Thanks much

    Chlorine Loss

Thank you very much. I will shoot for an additional 15ppm. And test again in about a week.

    Chlorine Loss

I finally have my pool balanced and clear. The only piece of the puzzle I am missing is the correct CYA number. A few days ago I put in approximately 4 lbs of stabilizer. I put it in the skimmer, but ended up backwashing for a few minutes the next day. My CYA registered 0 when I tested it...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

I went and rechecked later and it is steady on 16 after a good back wash. So I suppose I'll use this number as my starting point and when it starts to rise backwash again. And the needle did go to 0 when pump is off. Thanks very much. Al

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

And this is probably a weird question but my FC was 4.5 after the sun went down. I wanted to raise my FC level to 14 so the pool calculator said add three 182 oz bottles of 6% bleach to reach this level. About an hour later I recheck my FC level and it is 18.5 with .5 CC's. I have been going...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

You'd need to examine the housing of your pump closely and look for a threaded boss. That's a flat spot of metal with a threaded hole in it that would match the male threads on your gauge. There may or may not be a boss on your pump. It would be on the output side of the pump. If you have none...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

Do you suggest I add any more CYA or wait a few more days and test again. I tested again today and it had that white murky look to it, but I still could see the black dot. What is your suggestion? Thanks Al

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

I have the pressure gauge but it isnt connected to the filter. I just bought one last week because I never had one. The filter I have is about 10 years old and I just bought the house 2 years ago. I thought I had a hayward filter, but it is not. Where do I attach the pressure gauge. Do you...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

I have a pressure gauge, just don't know how to install it. I'll be finding someone to help. Here are my number as of 0900 this morning: FC = 17.5 CC = .5 or less. Very light tinge of red. One drop of R-871 immediately turned it clear. TC = 18.0 TA = 80 cH = 250 pH = 7.3 CYA = still...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

Oops. While trying to maintain shock levels, I must have missed judged the chlorine reading or just plain did it wrong earlier. I ended up putting 4 bottles of 182 oz 6% bleach in about an hour and a half ago. Well I rechecked the FC 3 times and it is 32.5 with CC at 1. The pool gets plenty...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

Thanks. I will assume CYA is 30 for now. What took me two week to accomplish last year seems to be taking quite a bit shorter time this year by following the simple suggestions from you guys. I am loving the BBB method and it is cheaper over the course of the summer once pool water is...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

Ok. Here are my test results from this morning. pH = 7.3 cH = 290 tA = 70 CYA = 0 (Did not test from yesterday, backwashed about 2 minutes total yesterday) But had added about 8 lbs of stabilizer the night before. Not sure how to proceed with having to backwash to clear pool. FC = 18 CC =...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

I did backwash once for about 1 minute. I then rinsed for 25 seconds then went back to normal filtering. I don't have a pressure gauge to go by and look in my skimmer closest to the pump and when I see that the water flow has slowed I usually backwash then. Do I need to wait a few days and...

Second test numbers after adding chemicals

pH = 7.1 (added 1 box of borax) CYA = 0 (Test still shows zero 24 hours after adding 8 lbs of stabilizer, I have not added anymore) CH = 170 (Just added 20 lbs more of calcium chloride) TA = 70 (left alone) TC = 14.5 (added three 128 oz. bottles of 6% bleach) FC = 13.5 CC = 1 I took my pool...

I hope someone can help. Just received my TF-100 test kit yesterday and am ready to start getting the pool running. Losing this drain cap has definitely put a damper on things. Thanks to those that can help
