    Solar Heater 270,000 BTU

Thanks for the great info! I followed the most of the suggestions from here Solar Pool Heaters - Further Reading when I designed and built my heater. I have Aquatherm Ecosun panels that are advertised at 93% efficiency. I’m at 43 degrees north with my panels mounted at 30 degrees. I was able to...

    Solar Heater 270,000 BTU

I just opened my pool and started heating it up. I was curious about how much heat energy I was getting on a clear sunny day. I asked Chat GPT to calculate the btu’s required to heat the water from 12C(54F) to 18C(64F) at 50gpm. It came up with 270,000 btu per hour. I’ve got ten 4x12 panels.

    Solar return temp sensor?

I ended up putting in a mechanical dpdt switch. Nice to be able to see how my panels are performing. Looks like I'm getting about 150,000 btu/hr currently.

    Solar return temp sensor?

I currently have one 24vdc (relay) source available, but I hope to use it for landscape lighting in the future. I have two 24vac (JVA) sources available, labelled Pool/Spa Return and Intake. I don't think they are programmable. Would "piggybacking" off of my Solar (JVA) work? It seems like the...

    Solar return temp sensor?

This would be perfect since the air temp is only used for freeze protection. I think I could use the Solar Boost Pump relay (not currently used) to trigger the DPDT relay. Can you recommend a relay that would work?

    Solar return temp sensor?

I am trying to measure the temperature rise from my solar panels. I have an EasyTouch system and I am using all 3 temperature sensor inputs. I can probably use the air temp sensor input most of the season for this purpose, but I would like a more permanent solution. Is there some sort of switch...

    Storing solar heater during winter

I leave mine on the rack year round.

    Need guidance on solar panels

Nice! I went with 2" collectors to maybe reduce some flow restrictions. I see a 5-6psi rise at 50 gal/min when the solar is heating. Just circulating the water without solar it 0 psi at 30 gal/min.

    Temperature Sensor/Probe?

That's what I'm after. The temperature probes look like they can be used as a standalone unit but the info says it needs a station to work.

    Need guidance on solar panels

I have 10 4x12 Aquatherm panels and they have been great. I installed them 5 years ago and haven't had any issues.

    Temperature Sensor/Probe?

Thanks for those ideas. Not sure how I would plumb those into the solar return pipes tho.

Upgrade Pentair Easytouch 4 to 8?

Is there a good place to get the extra relay kits from?

    Temperature Sensor/Probe?

I'm looking for a standalone unit that isn't connected to anything else. Like a meat thermometer type of thing. Just want to be able to observe the temp rise that my panels provide.

Solar not coming on with Easy Touch

Did you happen to move your solar sensor when installing the new panels? When I first built my wooden solar ground rack, I didn't paint the wood that the sensor is mounted on. It would always read low. I painted the wood black where the sensor is and it now reads as it should.

Upgrade Pentair Easytouch 4 to 8?

Was there much involved in soldering the resistor? What programmer did you order? I'm hoping to do the same with my ET4.

Solar not coming on with Easy Touch

For some reason when I open the pool in the spring I have to calibrate my solar sensor. It tends to read low. I wait till the sun is down and compare the solar temp to the air temp. They should be the same when there is no sun. I also use a digital temperature gun to read what temperature both...

    Temperature Sensor/Probe?

Does anyone have anything similar to what I'm looking for?

    Automated Heater Bypass

The other reason would be to decrease head pressure when the heater is not heating. My system, without a heater operates at about 70 watts for 30 gal/min of flow. It would probably take about 400 watts when going through the heater at that flow rate. Substantial electrical savings over time.

    Screenlogic for Android is terrible!

I've found the same thing. Android version is subpar to say the least. I mostly use my laptop and Ipad. Pentair should really update the Android app.

    Temperature Sensor/Probe?

I am looking for a temperature sensor or probe to monitor the temperature rise from my solar panels. I don't need anything fancy, something standalone would do. I currently use all 3 sensors of my Easytouch. I have considered using the airtemp sensor for this but I like having the freeze...

    Ahh-Some filter cleaner

Thanks! Some places here do carry the plumbing & jet cleaner but I haven't found a place that carries the filter cleaner. The ebay option will cost me almost 3x what your site sells it for.

    Ahh-Some filter cleaner

I would love to try this on my pool cartridges but I can't find it in Canada. Ahhsomeguy, do you know where I can get it here?

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I've had had my A20 for 2 weeks now and it seems my power supply is buggered up! It trips the GFCI as soon as it's plugged in. The lights on the front flash for a few seconds after the GFCI trips. I haven't tried it in a non GFCI outlet yet. I called Maytronics support but they don't take calls...

    New pool, first test!

I got my test kit today. Here are the results. FC 6.0 pH 7.3 TA 225 CYA 30 CH 350 So far I've add 6 pounds of CYA and 1 gallon of MA to reduce pH. If I added another 4 pounds of CYA would I be on the right track?

How do you "tune" a Variable Speed Pump?

I have my pump set at 1050 rpm for skimming and keeping the SWG happy. Skimming is slow but it works. It flows about 35 gpm and use 90 watts. To feed my solar panels it runs at 1600 rpm at flows about 55 gpm and uses 525 watts.

    New pool, first test!

Thanks for the advice! I forgot to put the CH (327) level in my post above. I'll add it in now. I added 1/2 gal of MA today and see where everything is at in the next few days. Really wish the TF testing kits were available in Canada! Paid an arm and a leg for the K-2006!
