    Drain or Not?

I have a ~15,000 gallon pool (pebbletec) that I began maintaining myself last fall. We recently had a pretty heavy calcium scale line (12-year old pool) blasted off and I was hoping the draining required to do the work would help with CYA, but it wasn't really enough to make a dent. Chlorine...

    Spa Filtering Best Practice

Yes. My initial thought was to schedule spa mode (sans) heater to run for a short time at the end of each day, and also set the blower to run for a shorter time in the middle of that window. Just to get some additional filtration for the spa and churn things up bit. I think that, plus running...

    Spa Filtering Best Practice

Yes, ajw22, the spa and pool share a pump so the spillover runs whenever the pool pump is running and the equipment is set in pool mode. I agree, circulation & water chemistry should be fine under these circumstance. My concern is mainly that without using the spa drain regularly, any...

    Spa Filtering Best Practice

The pool at the home we bought less than a year ago has an attached spa with spillover design. We don’t use spa mode regularly. It recently hit me that relying on just pool mode/the spillover might not provide enough filtration for the water in the spa. Am I overthinking this, or is there a...

Opinions on Heater Replacement vs. Repair

I have a Mastertemp 400 at a home we purchased a couple of months ago. It's about 10 years old. A nearby lightning strike damaged some of the pool equipment recently. The circuit boards in the EasyTouch and wireless link both had to be replaced and the surge bricked the heater. I replaced the...

Screenlogic Wirelesss Kit Troubleshooting - Solved

While I did replace the COM cable running from the outdoor antenna to the EasyTouch, I was using the same four-pin connector at the EasyTouch motherboard that had been there when storm happened. Apparently, it was also damaged by the surge. The wiring was correct and tight, but as soon as I...

Screenlogic Wirelesss Kit Troubleshooting - Solved

A lightning strike fried my EasyTouch Board and the Outdoor Transceiver a couple weeks ago. I replaced the board right away and it works as before. I just got the High Power Wireless kit I ordered and swapped out the indoor and outdoor transceivers (the protocol adapter seemed to be fine)...

Temporarily bypass EasyTouch 8 to run filter

Found the problem with the Intellibrites. I had not assigned the relays and synced them in the Configure menu in the EasyTouch. If the new fuse fixes the heater, everything will up and running except the screenlogic, which will likely require replacement of the antenna/transmitter. Thanks all!

Temporarily bypass EasyTouch 8 to run filter

New board is in and panel is working properly now. All the pumps and valve actuators now work as expected, but still a couple of things to sort out. I'm not sure the heater survived. It doesn't seem to be getting any power. Not responding from the EasyTouch or the main panel on the unit. It's a...

Temporarily bypass EasyTouch 8 to run filter

Yeah, that's what I was just starting to wonder about. The board that blew out has two stickers on it. One says Pentair Inc. EZTCH 8P Replacement 520711. The other smaller sticker has a barcode that lists P/N 520657. It looks like the former might be for a pool or spa configuration and the...

Temporarily bypass EasyTouch 8 to run filter

Motherboard showed up faster than I expected. Got it swapped out and the load wires moved back where they belong, but still have some problems and trying to figure out what's damaged and what's a programming issue since the new board means I lost all the previous setup. It seems like nothing...

Temporarily bypass EasyTouch 8 to run filter

That did the trick. Main filter pump appears to have survived unscathed so I will run it manually until the new board arrives. Hopefully everything else is still working after that, too. Thanks all!

Temporarily bypass EasyTouch 8 to run filter

Thanks, ajw22. Seems simple enough. I'll take a look at it in the morning and see if I can manage that.

Temporarily bypass EasyTouch 8 to run filter

The filter pump is a Whisperflo WF-30, so not variable speed All of the breakers are on. Only one breaker flipped due to the storm, but it was unrelated to the pool equipment. The GFI that is directly mounted on the side of the controller seems fine. There's a second one that is wired through...

Temporarily bypass EasyTouch 8 to run filter

A lightning strike this afternoon seems to have fried the motherboard in our Pentair EasyTouch 8. Capacitors and a couple of wiring harnesses were blown completely off. I've ordered a replacement board, but it might be next week before it arrives. Is there a relatively easy way to bypass the...

    iRobot Mirra

Could be wrong here, but isn't the Mirra just a slightly different and rebranded version of the Aquabot 4WD models. I have an iRobot Verro that died last week after 6 years, and it was just a rebranded Aquabot Turbot T-Jet. Clearly there is some sort of business relationship between iRobot and...

New AquaBot Rapids XLS and 4WD

My iRobot Verro 300 (rebranded Aquabot Turbo T-Jet) has died after 6 years of use. After some research, and this thread in particular, I think I've decided on an Aquabot 4WD to replace it. THe best I can find is a Rapids 4WD for $699, however Doheny's appears to be selling an open box return of...

    Motor/Pump Repair

I think my skimmers got too full of leaves and caused the pump to start taking in air. At some point the thermal protection kicked in, but now I can't get the pump to prime. When I turn it on, the motor starts but doesn't sound normal (has kind of a whine that gets more high-pitched the longer...

1st Full Pool Season Approaching - Need Robot Advice

I have the iRobot Verro, which appears to be a re-branded Aquabot Turbo T-Jet. Bought it 4 years ago when we bought a house with a pool and have no complaints. It has been pretty abused but never needed any repairs other than replacing the filter bag once when it got torn. I have left it in the...

    Minor remodel advice wanted...

We had Sundek sprayed on our existing decking and patio area during our pool remodel. We also had a contrasting color sprayed on our coping because the coping was structurally sound and it only cost about $650 vs. $2500 to replace the coping. We are very happy with the results. My...

    Connecting Fountain

Yup...that was the problem. Got the fountain hooked up last night so, hopefully it will keep the water temp a couple degrees cooler. Thanks!

    Connecting Fountain

I bought a simple PVC fountain/aerator to try and keep the pool a little cooler but am having trouble installing it. The fountain has a male, threaded 1 1/2" end. I unscrewed one of the return eyeballs but it seems to be 1 5/8" or maybe metric (also male threaded). Since it's not a standard PVC...

    Keeping FC up on Vacation

Yes I have a floater. I don't normally run the pump 24 hours but I can while we are gone. If I fill a floater with 4-5 pucks and run the pump the whole time, should that be enough to keep FC stable?

    Keeping FC up on Vacation

CYA is about 50. Mostly I was curious about using the pucks and how many would I need to keep the FC up if I went that route since I have them. Also if it is a trial and error formula, I thought it might be a good idea to try now on a shorter trip, so that I know what I need when we are gone...

    Keeping FC up on Vacation

We're going to be gone for a couple days next week. Is it better to use pucks to keep the FC where it needs to be while we're gone, or should I just use bleach to get it up to a point that it will stay above the min. for 48-36 hours. If pucks are the way to go, is there a formula for how many...

    Houston Pool Remodel

Thanks Aggie and Butterfly. Yes, the light Sundek does tend to show dirt, mostly in the patio area where there is a lot of traffic from us and the dog. In our case, the scorelines and textured pattern traps a lot of dirt. A darker color would be worth considering for sure. Although, I wasn't...
