    Spa leak after earthquake

Re: Spa leak after earthquake. It's Fixed!!! It's been a while since I last posted about this, but I got around to fixing the spa yesterday. It turns out the leak was the conduit for the light fixture. Easy fix, just drained the water out, mix up some pool putty and seal around the spot...

Have them change the piping to at least 2". It will make your system a bit more efficient :goodjob:

    Drain through backwash?

One word of caution: when you start draining, don't shut the pump off until you are done. Most pumps can't lift water over a few feet once prime is lost.

Dirt from return when switching pump from low to high?

I had the same problem last year. I think my sand was channeled, so I deep cleaned the filter by removing the top and shoving a garden hose down through the sand and moving it around, being careful of the laterals. You need to let the hose run until the water overflowing from the filter runs...

    Spa leak after earthquake

We had an earthquake here last week (5.3), and a few hours after the quake I noticed my spa water level was about 6 inches below normal. I let it go just to see what happened, and before I went to bed the water was at the level of the returns :( . Thankfully, the pool wasn't affected. I'm...

    seperate pump for bubblers?

I would go with using your main pump with the bubblers. It's a lot easier to add some pipe and a valve than a separate suction, pump, wiring, etc. Also, it's less stuff to fail in the future :goodjob:

Are there any hams out there?

:-D KB8WPT. I've been inactive for quite a while now. I need to get back into the hobby and upgrade my license. Maybe I'll make that my new years' resolution.

    Pump Failure Survey

The wet end is still going strong, I replaced the motor with a 2-speed to help save on the electric bill. Sorry, I can't read the model number, the plate on the pump housing is corroded too badly.

    Bleach & pH

Re: Bleach & pH I would try to work with a pH of 7.8 or so. I tried to work with a 7.2 pH for the first 6 months I had the pool and it was kind of a pain. After balancing the CH and TA to work with a 7.8 pH, life was a LOT easier! The pool is open and in use all year 'round, and I don't...

Anyone make a DYI stand alone pool cleaner (Filter and Pump)

Re: Anyone make a DYI stand alone pool cleaner (Filter and P If you want to have a filter, don't use a sand filter. If you move a sand filter with sand/zeolites/whatever inside, there is a risk of breaking the internals.

Is the main drain always contected to pump?

Just a suggestion, but the main drain might have been plugged before you moved in. Is the water too cold to dive down and take a look? Your main drain could also be plumbed through a skimmer. Look inside your skimmer(s), do you see one open port with another one plugged, or 2 open ports?

Fixing my Algea Monster overseas with no bleach available

Re: Fixing my Algea Monster overseas with no bleach availabl Once you get the algae cleared up, it sounds like a SWG might be your best option for day-to-day chlorination. I thought that the price of bleach here at $3.35 for a large bottle of Clorox was high!
