Brand New Hot tub First Fill

I have a few questions... Why test FC in a tub that has Sodium Bromide in it already? Shouldn't you be using a bromine test kit since any chlorine added to the tub will give itself up to liberate Bromine from the bromide bank? A Gallon of Bleach? Was the Loch Ness Monster in there? Is he...

    Newbie questions

I haven't noticed that the addition of borax makes any difference to the amount of foam. On my first fill I thought it might have caused some foaming because I added it after a two weeks or so. Since then , I've been adding it as soon as I fill the tub and it makes no difference whatsoever. It's...

The I hate Spa Parties Thread.

I only go in once in a while. I'm actually not a big hot tubber but I've taken on the maintenance duties as a sort of hobby. I usually just sit by the chimenea and drink a beer while the rest of them are in there. I did have a sort of breakthrough recently, like last night while I couldn't...

The I hate Spa Parties Thread.

Thanks Richard, it worked out so that I had 4 drops of acid demand to get to 7.4 (K2106) when they all got out of there. There were only 3 so it wasn't that bad. They were in for an hour I use 1oz per person hour rule as I do have an ozonator and 7 Tsp of the shock I use weighs 1.2 Oz so I'm...

The I hate Spa Parties Thread.

I changed the water on Sunday because the weather was so nice and the tub's perfect now. No more foam from that first fill and I've finally got everything the way I want it. The wife informs me last night that her sisters are coming again tonight for another go in the spa. So this morning I was...

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

The Bromine floater in my spa destroys about 15ppm of TA per day in its totally closed position. I'll need another one that's a little more adjustable I think, and to boot it maintains the level at near 8ppm. I'm going to test and see just how low the Bromine level gets with just the ozinator...

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

with 250 CH, once you get the TA up to between 40 and 60 you should be sittin' pretty. That's where I have the easiest time regulating everything. My wife is in again tonight with one of our girls. Work Work Work...

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

They're out! The bromine level was nearly 0 when they got out. I shocked it with 2.5-2.7 oz of Lithium Hypo which is low by your rule as they spent about an hour in there and the bromine level shot up to about 16 or 17 ppm. Maybe I'll shock it up again tomorrow morning. The ozinator seems to...

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

This is it. The sisters are here and they're planning on spending quite a while in the tub. I've shocked the bromine up to 9.5ppm and adjusted the TA up a bit. I'm at pH7.6 TA 60 and CH 190 right now. I'm sure they'll drive the bromine down to 0 and the pH up to 8 during their stay in the tub...

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

Ahh that explains it. I only use the tabs/floater occasionally now. That's why I don't see the TA slowly dropping over time. This is all making sense now. So how many times can I reactivate the same bromide bank? Is this an indefinite loop thing or does my bromide bank diminish over time?

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

I don't get what's happening to your alkalinity Alice. My TA never moves unless I add acid to the tub. I tested today and it was still at fourty something because I haven't added acid in a while. I don't think the bromine particularly makes the water balance harder because unless I'm missing...

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

I'll tell you what. Since I posted last, my pH has been steady as a rock at 7.6-7.7 with a TA of 40, 40! I would have thought that was way too low but I guess the borax is helping. She hasn't used the tub in a few days and I haven't touched the acid or baking soda and it's solid as a rock with...

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

Ok then, so It's OK to keep my TA about 50 then because that has been making me nervous. Things seem to settle down around 50 which coincdentally is where I am right now. I haven't touched the tub in a couple of days except to test and everything is staying nice and balanced. I did add borax to...

Switched from BBB to Bromine in Spa

For what it's worth, Here's a n00bs 2¢ maybe one of the smarties can comment on my process... I first filled my first spa about 3 weeks ago and I have gone from 3 step to 2 step as well as I find the floater even when totally closed pushes the bromine level up into the 12 to 13 PPM range. My...

How do I use Bromine in my spa (or pool)?

Ok Well I went and did it. Pool calculator worked great. My targets were 150-100 CH-TA and I hit them perfectly. The TA was a little high to keep the PH down while running the jets so I had to add enough acid to bring it to about 70 which seems low but I'm still in range. I dosed with bromide...

How do I use Bromine in my spa (or pool)?

Ok then, I think I've got this. I'm going with a 3 step system to start until I can quantify how effective the ozinator is at maintaining the bromine level where I want it. On your advice, I bought the k-2106 test kit. I tested my tap water and it's 20/20 for TA and CH so I've bought some...
