Pentair Superflo VS stops operating in freezing temps

I have been running it 24/7 for a while without issue until the sub-freezing temps. Or rather, I thought I was running it 24/7. Turns out my three speeds (which pre-freeze I set to all be 3450 rpms) actually added up to 23h 45m, so there was a 15 minute window in there at some point that it...

Pentair Superflo VS stops operating in freezing temps

I've noticed a few times now that my Pentair Superflo VS will quit operating during freezing temperatures. There's no external freeze protector type of hardware and the pump is wired directly to the equipment pad subpanel (no automation center, etc.). During previous freezes, I've only noticed...

Check valve issue on heater bypass

Following up on this idea, do I actually even need a 3-way valve, or is what I need just a 2-way diverter? There's only 1 in and 1 out. Seems like if I just close the diverter it would force everything the way I want it to go, no? Assuming the 2-way diverter will fit inside the housing for the...

Check valve issue on heater bypass

Also an interesting idea. I am indeed planning to run the pump all winter, but in Atlanta we do occasionally get long enough freezes (like last winter) that I'd rather not count on the pump to be the sole source of protection for the heat pump.

Check valve issue on heater bypass

That's an interesting idea. I had not considered or seen the spool idea, but it makes sense. Thanks!

Check valve issue on heater bypass

Following up here. I took apart the valve and checked it for any signs of tears, dirt, etc. Everything looks brand new (it was installed less than a year ago.) Put it back together trying to make sure it was as secure as possible, but still leaked. Bought Magic Lube and took it apart again...

Alternate to official "winter cap" for Circupool SJ35?

It's a good idea. I don't see any sign that any used ones, broken or otherwise, have come up on ebay when looking through past results, and I'm guessing it'd be hard to get lower than the $70 the cap will cost unfortunately. Looking like I might be stuck having to shell out the dough for the...

Alternate to official "winter cap" for Circupool SJ35?

Yeah, unfortunately I don't really have room without some significant modifications. Just outside the left edge of the picture is a 45-degree elbow, which would mean I could fit one on that side but it would be tight and getting the placement precise enough that it wouldn't throw off the...

Alternate to official "winter cap" for Circupool SJ35?

I thought about that, but the way this is plumbed I'd still need two of their custom unions, plus 2 elbows, and the turns would be in a pretty small space that would make getting the length of the cuts right a challenge. Not impossible, but enough hassle on top of still needing to buy two of...

Check valve issue on heater bypass

Okay thanks. I'm familiar with the spring nature, but not having used one before, wasn't sure if I was over-estimating how good a job it was supposed to do in staying shut. So you're confirming that it should stay completely shut at all times that water isn't pushing through from the input side...

Alternate to official "winter cap" for Circupool SJ35?

Hi, I'm looking at the best way to winterize my SJ35 while keeping the pump running through the winter. The manufacturer suggested I purchase their winter cap for $70 (with shipping), which seems like a ton for a simple plastic cap. Has anyone else come up with a more affordable method for...

Check valve issue on heater bypass

I re-plumbed my pad this spring due to some construction that required the pad to move, and plumbed in a bypass for my heater, which it hadn't had before. Now that the temps are dropping, I'm using the bypass for the first time and am trying to winterize the heater (Aquacal). The instructions...

    Replacement Dolphin power supply

The power supply for my Nautilus Plus got burned up (plugged in and there was a pop followed by smoke pouring out of it). Maytronics confirmed it was out of warranty and pointed me to the replacement part 9995672 for $300, but the old one I have is actually 9995670 which sells for $200. It looks...

Static electricity shock from artificial turf?

    Thanks. Will check them out.

Static electricity shock from artificial turf?

Completely new bonding grid. Turf is about 12 inches from the pool around ~85% of the pool. Just one row of concrete coping blocks separating it from the water.

Static electricity shock from artificial turf?

Yeah, I saw a few mentions of that in a brief Google search. Also curious with a bunch of bare feet walking around on fabric softener covered turf what impact it would have on the water.

Static electricity shock from artificial turf?

Okay, additional testing all seems to point toward static electricity buildup from the turf, but please tell me if you think I'm missing something. - Got a length of bare #6 copper, walked up to pool on pavers, stuck it in the water. Nothing. Removed it. - Walked a few steps onto the turf. As...

Static electricity shock from artificial turf?

So just walk around the pool dragging a wire in the water as I walk? I could try that.

Static electricity shock from artificial turf?

That’s my current assumption, but obviously don’t want to overlook a potentially more serious situation.

Static electricity shock from artificial turf?

We just redid our pool deck and replaced an old poured concrete deck with a combination of concrete pavers and artificial turf. I noticed today that I'm getting a very small shock when touching the water after walking on the artificial turf that I don't get when on the pavers. A few other...

Do salt test regents go bad? Strange results.

Interesting. The manual online shows 3000-4000 with ideal 3500 (see screenshot) but I called Circupool and they said that's incorrect and 4000 is a good number. I left the system on for a while longer and the Salt light turned green finally, so maybe it just needed to get warmed up to get a...

Do salt test regents go bad? Strange results.

Confirmed I’m testing at 10ml. Went to Leslie’s just now and had them test it and they got 4000, so it does appear my test is giving bad results. The first 400lbs of salt has been in the pool (circulating and with dolphin running a few times( for a good 3-4 days so I’m assuming my regents must...
