    Pool party tomorrow...how's #s look?

Not sure how I missed pH as it's written right in front of me, but it's at 7.7 currently. I may push it down a couple points for the swimmers. I'm sure the splashing will drive it up again. Will add chlorine now. Thanks for the extra set of eyes!

    Pool party tomorrow...how's #s look?

Just need some expert opinions on my water chemistry. I think I'm in good shape, but want a perfect pool for tomorrow's festivities. Appreciate your help! FC-5.0 CC-.5 TA-70 CH-330 CYA-60-70 range Borates 30 With evaporation and rain, my CYA will naturally come down so I'm not too concerned...

A little green above the water level.

Looks like I need to get some bleach and elbow grease and get to work! Thanks!

A little green above the water level.

There a couple of spots on the wall of my pool that gets direct sunlight for a good portion of the day, and I'm noticing some green tint in the grout, but it's above the water level line. How do I manage this and keep it from spreading into the pool? That's the only green the pool's seen in 6...

What do you use to measure your chemicals?

Granger has a 64oz. pitcher with graduated markings for ounces. Good strong plastic with a nice handle. I love it.

Pat on the back or more work needed?

Six months into the TFP method, a few struggles here and there with CYA and TA, but I think I'm getting to cruise control levels. Tell me what you think: FC: 3.9 CC: .5 pH: 7.6 TA: 70 (down from 130) CA: 230 CYA: 20 My CYA used to be well over 200, but with water replacement and several big...

    2016 bleach prices

Just refilled a 2 1/2 gallon jug with 12.5% for $5.75 at my local pool store, Pinch-a-Penny. I don't buy much else there, but they're good for the chlorine. I've seen sales as low as 2/$7 of these refilled jugs.

Sorry for still having questions about this pH thing...I just want to learn all I can about it. I'm still puzzled. Tested today and here's what I observed: FC-3.6 CC-0 pH-7.8 (up from 7.4 just 5 days ago) TA-60 Still a couple questions: Pool school says if TA is too low, the pH will swing...

I'm not sure of the age of the pool, but it's not new. The surface is actually a bit rough in some spots...could this have something to do with it? No SWG. Im going to test my fill water, but I haven't used it in several weeks, so I doubt that is the culprit. I'll test it again today and lower...

Re: pH/TA balance still puzzling The rate of rise was slightly faster with the higher TA, but it hasn't slowed appreciably since lowering...granted, I was aerating to raise pH during the TA lowering process. No aeration now, I only have three returns and each is pointed to shoot just below the...

pH/TA balance still puzzling A couple weeks ago I lowered my TA from 140 down to 60 now using MA and aeration. Now with TA in better check, My pH still rises at a pretty good clip...from 7.3 on the 12th to 8.1 this morning. What gives? Is the TA still too high possibly or perhaps too low? I'm...

    Question about chlorine DPD powder

Has anyone found an effective way to crush the larger pebbles into finer dust? Those pebbles seem to jump around at the slightest movement of the scooper. Thought about pouring it all in a plastic baggie or Saran Wrap and crushing it up. Thoughts?

CSI goes to -.02 if my pH is 7.8 and TA is 80 (all else at current levels). Seems like a good number to me! We'll see if the pool naturally finds those levels.

I've been on a mission to lower my TA from 140 to 80ish (or wherever the pool likes it). Here's the latest test results with a couple follow up questions: FC: 4.8 CC: .2 pH: 7.6 (up from 7.0 a few days ago) TA: 90 CH: 270 CYA: ~35 pool water is clear and temp is ~56F have 3 jets pointed...

Re: Old test agents vs new test agents Ok...did just what Patrick said: lowered pH to 7.2 using MA (BTW, pool math was spot on!) and am aerating via returns pointed upwards. My TA went from 130 to 110 during this process. My question is, what can I expect to see with my pH and TA levels over...

Re: Old test agents vs new test agents Retested TA being careful to wipe the tip after each drop. Got a definitive 130. Also, seems pH is creeping even higher, now at 8+. First action is lower pH then aerate?

    Measure and pour chlorine

Simple question...what do you all use to measure and pour your liquid chlorine? My chlorine comes in refillable 2.5 gallon jugs, so if I need to add 58 oz. (or whatever) what's the best and easiest way? Are there large measuring cups I don't know about?

Re: Old test agents vs new test agents Dave, I will try what you say and retest before I add anything. Question: The previous home owners left half a bottle of pH Down here...the main ingredient being sodium bisulphate. Just so I can use it up and toss the bottle, would it hurt to pour this in...

Re: Old test agents vs new test agents I added some chlorine this evening so that should help raise the FC level. Tomorrow I'll tackle the lowering of the pH and TA and see what happens. Thanks for taking a look and for the advise.

For the last 3 days I've been using the testing agents in my K-2006 kit that I found on Craigslist. Well, today the mailman brought me a package with some new reagents. Specifically, all three bottles to test TA. I wanted to be shown that I needed these new chems and that I didn't waste my...

First test results after lowering high CYA

No speedstir...it's all in the wrist! Just finished reading a sticky further explaining each test and it talked about the purple color...called it a "fading endpoint". With what you said and after reading that explanation, I believe my CH to be on the higher end of my testing range. I'll try...

First test results after lowering high CYA

Every time I brought in a water sample, their tests always showed my CYA level being at 100. I knew it was much higher, but then when I asked about it, they said that's as high as it goes for them. I'm sure with a bit more knowledge, I could go in there and get them to contradict themselves...

First test results after lowering high CYA

Bought my house in October of last year and it came with a pool. I'm from Chicago area, so I knew nothing about maintaining a pool. Luckily I found this site rather quickly and didn't get pool stored (or however you phrase it). Long story, short...once I got the green cesspool looking like...

New test kit shows extremely high FC level

Good news is I don't have cable so i think I can handle the $40! Is there a better way to drain other than using my pump to suck it out of the deep end and having a hose in the shallow end keeping the water level stable? I don't know how to find the underground water level so I don't want to...

New test kit shows extremely high FC level

I put a few pucks in just before leaving for Thanksgiving, but nothing since then. I won't use them again as I now know that they are stabilized tabs and the last thing I need is more CYA! I plan on doing a drain, as soon as I can convince the wife that it needs to be done. All she sees is $$$.

New test kit shows extremely high FC level

So I just got a new container of R-0870 and R-0871 from tftestkits. Before then, the pool store told me my FC level was at 5 (now I know that's as high as it goes for them). So I was excited to do a proper test and get accurate results. I filled the vial up to the 10mm mark, put in 2 dippers...
