CLICK HERE to Become a TroubleFreePool.com Supporter!

Hi all, It's been a while since I rolled through. I decided to check in on the supporter levels to see if anything has changed. As you can see, I was an original Lifetime member. Does that correlate to any of the new levels? Also, if I want to do one of the new support levels, does my...

    Problems With PoolSkim- Need Advice

I use it on an above ground pool, but I agree with zea, it needs to be on the return to the far right in the deep end if the flow is clockwise. Putting in on the last return in the shallow end just means that the other 3 returns are going to move the debris away from the poolskim before it has...

Frustrated with poor filtering performance and algae(?)

Your pH is too low. Shock levels of Cl give false high pH readings. If your FC is really 11.5 and your pH is really 6.8, your pH is way too low. Your TA is pretty much in range, but you need to raise your pH right away so I would use borax. Using borax would raise the TA some, but the...

Looks like I need the Poolskim

Re: Poolskim review. Yes, I run my pump on low all the time and my pool skim works fine. It does, however, take longer to clear the surface but that is because the water is circulating slower.

The end of Baquacil ...process starting on Sept 15, 2013

Re: The end of Baquacil (?) perhaps coming soon... Another thought with regards to the chemicals you have on hand is how many are unopened and how long have you had them. If you just bought them this swim season, maybe the pool store will take them back for a store credit. Then you can use...

    Another Pool Skim Review

Ditto! I have had mine for 3 seasons, this is the start of the 4th. It was WELL WORTH the $100. I NEVER have to skim and I have a ton of trees.

Pool is becoming a money pit.

What kind of warranty/guarantee did you get for the leak repairs that were originally done? Is there no way that one of the leaks previously fixed has started leaking again?

10" of rain yesterday, had to keep draing pool

I got hit hard yesterday and we are getting hit hard again now. I definitely need to drain, but I am not going out in the rain to do it. (I've got a fresh hairdo to maintain....LOL) Hopefully I will get a chance after work today to drain, if it stops raining. If not, I will be out there...

New home owner that has never owned a pool.

"Original" scent is the same as unscented, so no worries there.

White film on top of pool

<off topic> Cramar, thanks for the chuckle. I couldn't help but laugh at the "straightforward" way you explained all of that!....LOL.

    Poolskim review.

I have loads of maple trees that drop leaves, helicopters and other nasties. The poolskim is the BEST thing that has happened to me! I, too, love mine and am glad I found it. You're right, it is the BEST $100 I have spent for my pool!

Our backyard oasis build! 21' round AGP (picture heavy!)

Yes, very nice job! Is that a solar warmer in the corner? If so, does it work well?

    Recommendation for a cleaner

I actually checked the links on my original post and realized I linked the residential Blue Diamond instead of the commercial one. I am not sure of the cost, but I would think that the commerical model would be sufficient if the stats are correct.

    2 Speed Motor

Would you recommend running it on high for shocking, too, or just what was previously mentioned?

    Word is Out

Shoprite still has the 96oz jugs on sale 10 for $10 if you have one in your area.

    Recommendation for a cleaner

Take a look at this or this. Not sure what the reviews are, but they are commercial cleaners and customer service is good from the company. ETA: Changed first link to Blue Diamond Pro. Linked residential model in error the first time.

    Poolblaster

I have one also and it does the trick for me. I originally got the catfish, but it was too small to clean my pool (lots of trees and gunk). I upgraded to the Poolblaster the following year. I did have the motor go, that's a common complaint, right around the 1yr mark, but it was still within...

    liquid bleach

Hi and Welcome! Bleach is just that, bleach. It is the regular, unscented bleach that you use for everyday household chores. The sodium hypochlorite concentration in regular bleach is usually 6%. Liquid chlorine or Liquid shock (as most pool stores/manufacturers like to call it) is a...

    Aqua Broom

A tube sock may be too thick. I would start with a knee-hi stocking or some opaque tights. You can get them at any drug store/grocery store.

New Pool full of GREEN ALGAE?!?!

You fill in your gallons and then you fill in the current level and target level for whatever you are trying to adjust. Then hit the calculate button.

New Pool full of GREEN ALGAE?!?!

Draining the pool does not guarantee that the problem won't come back. You want to read Pool School, more specifically, how to shock your pool. The most important thing is to get your FC levels up to shock level. Since you don't have any test results, we can't say how much bleach needs to be...

    Algae issues,my head is spinning........

What is Divex? You definitely need to get your FC level up to shock levels. According to the pool calculator, http://www.thepoolcalculator.com, to raise your FC level from 4 to 28 (your shock level for a CYA of 70) you need to add 13 1/2 of the 96oz jugs of 6% bleach. The key then is to keep...

    Why Get a Cartridge Filter?

That sounds a lot easier than my method, but for those that don't have the valve, this is what I do: I hook the hose to the skimmer plate like I would for regular vacuuming and once I get suction, about 20 sec, I pull the hose off the plate and toss the end out of the pool into the area where I...

At a loss, high FC, normal CYA, still cloudy

That's pretty much what I have resigned myself to do. I think once I can get my numbers back in balance, it will be ok. So much for saving on the electric bill this month...lol. That's what I keep hoping. I get up in the morning and run to the back door hoping to look out and see a clear...

At a loss, high FC, normal CYA, still cloudy

Checked my numbers yesterday. FC=33.5, CC=0, TA=120. My TA is usually 70, so I have some work to do. It was clearer this morning, but still not completely clear and sparkling. Unfortunately, my CL is still too high to test pH, but I a pretty sure it is high since my TA is so out of whack. I...

Yes, regular scent is the one you want to use.

At a loss, high FC, normal CYA, still cloudy

I was letting it fall anyway because it was so high. Unfortunately, I think it is going to take a little while because it has actually been holding the CL levels pretty good through all this. Another weird thing. I didn't test it yesterday or this morning, but I will test when I get home to...

At a loss, high FC, normal CYA, still cloudy

I'll have to remember that. Unfortunately, with my FC so high, I can't test the pH right now. I am, however, starting to suspect that it may be high because I am getting some aeration from the return. I have a poolskim and although the return is not breaking the surface, there are bubbles on...

At a loss, high FC, normal CYA, still cloudy

Actually, I didn't. That is only because my pH usually stays rock solid at 7.2.
