Bad pump corrosion or just salt?

My pump was seizing up. Wasn’t expecting this when I took it apart. I *think* it’s salt, but really don’t want to taste test it. Not sure if this is normal with salt pools or indicates a leak. Either way I replaced it with a vgreen vs pump and a new go kit.

Replacing .75hp pump with vgreen 1.65hp motor

I know that sounds like a huge step up, but the vgreen .85 motors are hard to find and are pretty much the same price as 1.65hp motors. Below are the reference numbers. My current motor is uct1072. .75hp, 3400rpm, 115v/8amp. Service factor 1. Questions; Basically, since I don’t need 1.65hp can...

    Anyone use a temperature logger?

Thought it would be nice to be able to see a graph or chart of my pools temp over time, readable with an app and ideally via wifi. There’s some Bluetooth ones but you have to go within a few feet to read them. Thanks!

Anyone ever make their own standalone pump/filter station for cleanup?

Recently had a stamped concrete patio put in, and between that and demolition of the old patio theres still a lot of smaller rocks and concrete dust and dirt on the bottom of my pool. I don't have a bypass on my cartridge filter to allow me to bypass it and vacuum to waste, and don't want to...

Deleted post to a thread from last year

I had two posts deleted today. Message was because I posted to a very old thread. The two threads I posted to were started in 2019 and 2020. That definitely isn't "very old". What are the guidelines? Whats the thinking of not letting people post to threads less then a year or two years old? Thanks

Hayward Tristar VS XE, Tristar VS, or Maxflow VS

Trying to pick one of these variable speed pumps to pair with my Prologic controller. Hayward doesn't make it easy to compare features of their various VS pumps. Can someone please explain; The Tristar XE (Sp3207X10Xe) has a button on the pump to change the speed, can I control speeds with the...

Bonding; in contact with pool water AND/OR rebar in concrete shell

Having my patio replaced, came to find out my early 80's Anthony Sylvan pool was never bonded. I get the #8 solid copper needing to make a loop around the pool, connect to 4 points, and connect to the pool equipment. But is it EITHER connect it to the rebar in the pool structure, OR, use a Bundy...

Thinking of adding dedicate line for pressure or suction cleaner, pipe size?

I have a pressure line that leaks. I’m getting my patio replaced so I have a chance to dig it up and fix it. May be easier to just run a new line to the same hole. What’s a good, typical pipe size? I may have to run it inside the pipe that goes through my concrete pool wall. Thanks

Need to rehab my 40yo concrete patio, pavers vs porcelain tile

After being in our house for 18 years and never really liking our patio, this will finally be the year we replace it. You can sort of see it in my thumbnail. In some places its cracked pretty bad and some sections settle over time. We've paid to have it mud jacked (limestone slurry iirc) a...

Removing large threaded ring on my jacuzzi/carver cartridge filter

There’s a large high strength plastic ring that holds the top onto my cartridge filter, it screws on. Part 7 below. About 24” diameter. Once it’s on there for a while it’s hard to unscrew. There were 4 tabs on the bottom of the ring I would hit with a mallet, 3 have broken off. The ring has some...

Coating options for exposed aggregate patio

Has anyone updated their exposed aggregate patio, diy or hired out? Sundek does a topping, waiting on an estimate from them. Cool deck seems to be geared towards smooth concrete. Not sure if the bumpy aggregate finish will need to be ground down or filled in with a concrete topping. thanks....

6x6 waterline tile for pool with curved corners?

You can see an aerial shot of my pool in my sig. The corners are curved. Not sure if 6x6 tiles will make the radius. Thinking I may have to cut them in half? Or should I go with 3x3 or 1x1 sizes? Thanks

Clearing pool algae by shock and not cartridge filter?

I have a decent amount of algae. This year thinking of saving needing to clean my cartridge filters and letting the shock/slam process remove the algae. Does that work, or do you need the cartridge filter to remove the algae?

    Bad pump corrosion

Have to replace this motor. Been running really loud for a while, getting worse. For some reason there's a lot sand/powder all over the casing that is coroding the pump. Anyone know what would be causing this? Pump is a few years old.

    Light niche not bonded

So happened on a thread on bonding. Realized my light niche isn’t bonded back to the equipment pad. However it is grounded via a copper rod driven into the ground by the junction box off the deep end. Should I also run a bond wire back to the equipment? Also, in terms of grounding does the...

Jandy Lite2 Heater; clogged pipe to pressure sensing switch

At least once a year, always at opening, the water to the switch is blocked. Its blocked at the outlet from the heater TO the 1/4" copper pipe that leads to the switch. I have to take the heater cover off and remove a plug to get at where the blockage is. Does anyone have any experience on...

Has anyone had to replace buried pvc due to a leak?

So my pools been leaking for a while now. Did the bucket test, checked the pad many times, etc.... I finally bought some dye and was able to tell that the water was being drawn IN to the pressure line (with pump off). At that point, I wanted to get a pool repair company out to do a more thorough...

    Dolphin Caddy DL9996087ASSY vs DL9996098ASSY

I was going to buy the DL9996098ASSY but the seller, Pool Zoom, said that "This caddy will work, but its not ideal - it does not include the bracket for your style power supply. The new style caddy part number is 9996087-ASSY we do have plenty of those in-stock". Can anyone confirm this? I'm...

Does anyone with a swcg use pucks?

I was talking to a pool maintenance guy who said it would be good to throw a couple pucks in the skimmer during times of heavier use. Like right before the weekend. His point is that swcgs are a little slow to fight bather load. I have powder shock I can throw in, but its not slow release like a...

Thinking of adding thin layer over stamped concrete over current patio

Has anyone done this? My exposed aggregate patio around the pool is pretty rough on the feet. Plus the aggregate seems to trap dirt. For stamped concrete they clean the concrete, roll on a bonding agent, put a thin layer of concrete (about 1" or less), then stamp and color it. There's also a...

Should I glue my eyeball body to my return pipe?

I don't have all the right terms so probably asking this wrong, lol. For years, I would slide the eyeball body into my return pipe. They would only go 3/4 of the way and would stick out. I never thought of gluing them into the return pvc because I would take them out in the fall. But since you...

Has anyone used their credit card extended warranty?

Just noticed my two cards have varying warranty extensions. One more year for AMEX and two more years for Capital One. Just wondering how easy it is to actually go through the claim process. Never know if these things are full of "gotchas" or not.

Do all Dolphin/Doheny cleaners run at the same speed, and are self servicable?

Or do the more expensive ones move faster? Also, I noticed language on some models saying they can be serviced by the owner. Is this true with all the newer models? Looking at the Discovery, Saturn, M200, Cayman, Quantum.

Cheapest Dolphin with tangle free chord and programable

Looking at a robotic cleaner. Years ago I had an Aquabot and hated that the chord would tangle and that you couldn't program it. So, if I get a new 'bot those are two main areas of improvement. I know the high end Premier has a basic schedule feature, but any lower cost models?

When I wire in the heater to my pump relay it trips as soon as the pump comes on. I disconnect the terminals at the heater and get continuity between hot and neutral. Is that normal?

Cartridge filter top moves up a bit.

So just used my new cartridge filter for the first time. Screwed the lid retainer ring on, turned pump on, after water filled the filter the cover moved up about 1/2". After a minute I turned the pump off, and the ring screwed down a little more and kind of locked in place. Is this normal?
