When my FC is 30 and water temp is cold, 65-70F how valid are other tests?

as the title says my FC is 30 (started out high when I closed and still 30 when I opened a few days ago) and water temp is cold, 65-70F how valid are other tests? My Ph is 7.2 to 6.8 after a few days of testing. High FC mean Ph test is not valid? CYA is 50 TA is off the charts. last fall...

Ordering coming year test kit refills?

I seem to remember that ordering refills might be at a discount sometime this spring. I have TF pro salt kit and see refill set is $54, but that does not include the salt refills at $36. I have a lot of salt, TA and CH test left over from last year. Any of that still good for the coming...

Auto cover but still bunch of leaves in the pool ?

We have a one year old fiberglass pool that I closed Oct 13. Just opened it today to check on water and add some noodles to the skimmers (Gizmos were already there) as temps will be single digits in next 2 weeks. On opening the pool was full of leaves and pine cone needles (Dang neighbors...

Question on using the Cyclone blower

I watched my pool guy use a cyclone to close my pool and want to try it myself next year. But after watching, the next day I had a question He blew out the skimmers (pool was not drained so skimmers 1/2 full) and while a big gusher of air and water was coming out, an assistant screwed in a...

Pool guy closing this year, but next year I'll try it.

Pool was installed last fall, so I got a free closing. They blew out the lines and put in antifreeze. They said they put in 50 gal of AF at $15 per gal so next year it would be $750 for AF + $400 labor. This year I'm paying them $450 to just blow out lines only. Planning on videoing them and...

Low PH and high FC which to do first

I've been maintaining FC for last month or two pretty high 7-10 with my SWG. PH for last month has been steady at 7.2 when earlier in the summer I was constantly dumping in acid to get it down. this morning pool is TFP clear and has been for last 2 months after a June SLAM FC 6.0 (lot of...

Vacation for 2 weeks, what setting on the SWG?

Leaving for 2 week vacation and first time pool owner. Been reading various threads on the subject, suggesting getting a tab floater for the pool during that time. Right now I have my SWG at 50%, pump running 24/7 and maintaining FC around 5-7 (CYA at 50). Should I just bump up the SWG to...

Muriatic Acid Pool store 31%, Lowes at 30% and 1/2 the price

So Lowes has Kleen Strip Green Muriatic Acid Concrete Etch at 30% for 1/2 the price of my pool store $20 vs $10 for a gallon. 31% vs 30%. Anything in the Lowes gallon I should stay clear of for a pool. I go through about a gallon every 2 weeks trying to keep PH down.

New pool this spring, questions on the test kit I got

We had new salt pool installed last Sept and got about 2 weeks to use it before closing so never really started using my new Taylor salt test kit. For those few weeks I relied on the pool store for testing (I know, shame on me). However, I did my own testing of chlorine and PH at least Got a...

TF-Pro Salt kit has wrong bottles

Just ordered a TF-pro salt kit for our new pool and tried to use it for the first time to test chlorine. Opened the cap on the R-0600 reagent bottle to do the 5 drop thing. When taking the cap off, I dumped most of the contents when the bottle did not have a spout. See the pic below, bottle...

Wife wants pool, came here to be talked out of it.

As the title says, for 20yr the wife always wanted an in ground pool and I always resisted (too much $$, too much work, poor resale value etc). For several years I ran the neighborhood pool, cleaning it every day, checking chemicals, chasing out the ducks, removing dead squirrels and rabbits...
