    MUD!

Just did a week of SLAM and brushing and backwashing and the water was clearing up (except for Calcium buildup…) But we just had a big storm and mud washed into the pool! All brown/green now (was blue right before the storm so it’s just mud in the water) I got out solids, brushed and...

I did a good job with the info here for a few years...then.... I slacked and was just buying packets of treatment (couldn't get bleach during Covid for instance) and eventually wasn't testing much or at all and just dumping in stuff and sweeping...oops. I'm BACK So it went bad end of season...

If I am not sure if my SWG is working....

Pros and Cons of putting in salt anyway? Have to buy the salt and carry the bags. Got it. What else? P.S. I replaced the SWG a few years ago. Researching how to check it...haven't cleaned it...

    Did I burn my pump???

I have been through low temp before and never had a problem just keeping the pool running (TN...we don't get a lot of hard freezes). I just went to check the pool (slacked the last few days) and the basket was brown and the water was hot :( Still running. I shut it off. We are up to 32 at the...

CYA levels and a dying SWG?

I have an SWG pool and topped off the salt for this season. As your Cell wears out, and if I find myself having to manually add lot of chlorine this season, how does that bear on what my CYA should be? My CYA is 70 at the moment. I'm still getting the water balanced so don't know how the cell...

    Borate and PH increase

On the back end of a SLAM. FC 12 PH 7.2 TA 50 CYA 50 Borate 15 PoolCalc says I will need 550oz of Muriatic to compensate for the PH increase if I add 1154oz of Borax. But I need to raise my PH and my TA which would require a good bit of Baking Soda Would it stand to reason that I could add the...

    SWG Cleaning question

This is my 2nd season with this pool (moved into a house with the pool). The SWG has apparently quit working. It could be 5 years old. I didn't clean it last season and am trying that today. The cell is soaking in a bucket of muriatic solution but it didn't foam up. Does that tell me there...

To slam or not to slam?

Forgive me...I neglected my pool. Leaves built up and stayed in for a while (kids broke the leaf rake!) and I wasn't checking my FC. I didn't winterize. OK...I am cleaning it up and it has eaten some chlorine. Leaves are out, I am brushing, vacuuming, backwashing and testing. Water is fairly...

    Thank you Borates!

So... It has been about 7 weeks since I added Borates to my pool. I haven't had to adjust my PH yet. And there have been tons of kids out splashing in the pool. Just stays rock solid, and the water is REALLY clear. Nice. Highly recommend it. Kind of boring as my test results are always so...

    Borates level question

Today's Test: PH 7.5 FC 4 (should be 6) CH 250 TA 80 CYA 80 Borates 30 Salt 3,600 CSI -0.58 My PH has been holding right at 7.5 all week. Should I hang with this current Borate level and see how my PH stability goes or is there an advantage to getting it a little higher? Just didn't know if it...

    Getting close to balance?

PH 7.2 FC 6 (should be 5) TA 60 CYA 70 CH 400 Salt 3600 Borates 40-ish CSI -0.76 SO... 12 boxes of 20 Mule Power and 4 gallons of MA got my TA down to 60 and my Borates somewhere just below 50 (test strips). With the SWG, I should keep my TA from getting LOWER than 60 right? I am thinking that...

    7.0 ph

So I'm lowering my TA and bumped my PH down to 7 (am aerating). How long is it ok to have it that low? - - - Updated - - - Oh yeah.... PH 7 FC 7 TA 70 CYA 70 Salt 3600 Borates 15 (haven't yet added but now might be a good time with the PH low?) (Lucky?) - - - Updated - - - My sig

Lowering TA Testing and Aeration questions

So...with the TF-100 test kit, often there is a drop that causes it to be pink for a second and then clear. The next drop might just be a little pink. One more drop and you have a good obvious color change. Do you take the reading as the last drop or somewhere in between? Question 2: My TA...

    FC vs CC?

So I have been trying to bring my FC levels down. Today, my FC was 3 but I had some CC. I am going to test again later to make sure it isn't above .5. It has been Zero all week. How do you enter CC into PoolMath? Do you just add it onto your FC? PH 7.8 (going to buy MA now) FC 3.5 TA 120 CH...

    What is this for?

I just moved into this house/pool. This was sitting on the deck next to the pool. Any theories on what it's for? I'm guessing it is related to the pool cover. It is made from particle board...not the most water resistant material :) The pool wasn't closed this winter.

    High CH?

So...I just put in what Leslie's told me to (before I came here and bought my own test kit!!!). My CH was 150. VINYL Pool....and they sold me a big tub of Calcium. Live and learn. What are the hazards of a CH of 500 in an SWG Vinyl Pool? Water looks great. Didn't know if it was worth a...

    Recovering Pool Store customer :)

I moved into a house with a pool last december. I grew up with pools but they weren't salt and that was a LONG time ago. I just had enough of buying blindly buying Phosphate removers and Conditioners and have come here to learn and take control. THANKS
