    Any auto mechanics? Need advice.

May sound like a dumb question, but nobody has asked so I will- Have you CHECKED the transmission fluid level? Herky Jerky is one of the signs of low fluid. Check it hot while transmission is in park on a level surface. The dipstick us usually yellow or some other bright color and located at...

Can we fill our new pool using water from our pond?

I think it was Duraleigh that filled his monster pool from a pond.

Strange Question about covering skimmer opening in pool wall

So I have posted here over the past year or two about putting in an inground vs keeping my above ground. The wife and I have made the decision to rebuild the above ground, put a sweet deck around it, and stick with what we have. This raises a question that I am not sure how to deal with...

    Read my pool blog

Wow- you've been what we refer to around here as "pool stored". Read Pool School. No seriously, read it. Then read it again. And again if necessary. All that algeacide is worthless without some FC which you never have any of. I looked at the pictures, they aren't that bad. My pool looks...

Power Pak I Pump is making loud ringing noise, fixable?

I'm not there so I am not sure what might be causing the screeching. It sounds like a bad bearing. There is one in the electric motor that may be going bad. If that's the cause, I would buy a new pump as it is likely not worth fixing the old one due to it's age. If you're handy you can try...

I Pm'd original poster. He replied stating that some other projects have him sidetracked for the time being but will be back with more pictures when progress on the pool continues.

Odd situation- new pool and need to "cap" off a large hole.

Keetman- I hear ya on the color. They come in different colors. But they are plastic and Krylon makes a special spray paint and bonding primer for plastic. I have used it on some exposed PVC drain pipes to hide them in the landscape and it works great and has held up well out in the...

    Give me some ideas please

Colormesummer- I anxiously await your posting of more pics :P I checked out some of your pics from last year and it looks like you did something very similar to what I am thinking of. Some pics from a wider angle would really help me visualize - if you're taking requests. :goodjob: Just...

Odd situation- new pool and need to "cap" off a large hole.

Lots of people around here use these for septic tank access: http://www.septicsolutions.net/store/risers_lids.htm Scroll about halfway down the page and there is a 12" version. I see no reason why you couldn't use something like this for your situation. Found it by Googling "septic tank...

Help....down to the wire on Salt vs Chlorine

Is it not also true that a SWG leaves residual sanitizer (Chlorine) but an ozonator does NOT leave a residual sanitizer? What does Raises "orp" to become chlorine mean? My limited understanding of ozone is that it is good at sanitizing, but is molecularly unstable and therefore lousy at...

    sand in the pool

OK. I humbly defer to Duraleigh then ;) Hopefully you'll get to the bottom of this.

    just one small question...

Based on what I've read here, you need to get the water chemistry "right" before turning on a SWG anyway. And you still shock the traditional way with a SWG. So it will do no harm to go ahead and adjust TA and pH and add chlorine to get your chems in line. That way the kids can swim safely...

    Failed Bonding Grid Inspection Twice

I frequent a lot of homebuilding sites as well as this one. The common advice on all of them is if you got a red tag, ask the inspector to tell you what he wants. It's the easiest and fastest way to give the inspector what they're looking for. It's the job of the PB to get the electrical...

cartridge filter or sand with swg

I would think the needles and leaves would be a non issue with the cart filter as most of the trash gets caught in the skimmer basket and never reaches the filter. I backwash my regular Chlorine pool into the lawn all of the time and have been doing so for years with no noticeable damage...

    sand in the pool

You keep mentioning the "inplaces". I assume you mean the skimmers where the water is drawn in. How about the returns- the jets that blow the water back into the pool? Have you put some sort of trap on those to see if there is sand blowing out of them? Do you have a sand filter? You...

Old Purex Sand Filter: Rebuild or Replace

Unless you are getting sand in the pool- I wouldn't worry with the laterals. I would probably replace sand and drill out the hole for the gauge to 1/2, thread, then use a brass reducing bushing for a 1/4 " threaded gauge. Something like this: http://www.lowes.com/pd_90379-104-LFA82 ...

    Give me some ideas please

A couple of things- I am a little worried about what I might find- bottom plates, bottom rail, etc. But I have talked to the local DB dealer and they assure me parts are still available. Trouble is, I won't REALLY know what I need till I tear into it. The pool would be sunk into the...

    Give me some ideas please

This is my 15 year old Doughboy Timberline. Time for a new liner, and probably new filter hardware too. [attachment=1:104cvec9]Pool1.jpg[/attachment:104cvec9] I am thinking of setting it into the hillside where the ground drops off behind it. It wouldn't be "buried" per se, but would be...

    Fine particles

Do you have a DE filter? If so, have you verified there are no holes in the grids? Sounds to me like DE. The Overnight FC test mentioned above will tell you if it's algae or not. If test shows no overnight FC loss, bet you a douoghnut it's DE.

Anyone ever deal with LEISURE LIVING ? ?

Sent them two e-mails with a product question- no response. So tonight I call their 800 number and get a message that all representatives are busy and i am dumped directly into voice mail- not even given an option to hold for someone. So, two unanswered e-mails and no phone support. Makes...
