Questions about heating our pool once - is it worth it?

I was thinking about giving my friends and their kids (more for their kids) a little treat by heating our pool one weekend day this month. While the cost is a factor, I am curious if it would even be enjoyable? Let's say we heat the pool to 85* and the outside temp is 50*. Would that even be...

Tweeking my pump run time for the fall/winter?

Now that fall is upon us in Houston (nothing compared to you Northerners) and we won't be using the pool until next spring, should I consider slightly decreasing the run time for our pump or just stick with the general idea of circulating all the water through the filter once within 8-12 hours...

How often do you "scrub" the walls of a Fiberglass pool ??

Re: How often do you "scrub" the walls of a Fiberglass pool Figured I would bump this rather than make a new thread. Any other brushes that people have used besides the Wall Whale? Just want to see what options are out there.

What TA range is correct? TF-100 instr. or Pool School?

thanks. I already added baking soda on Sunday to get the TA up some, but going forward I will monitor it weekly and work on keeping it above 50.

What TA range is correct? TF-100 instr. or Pool School?

Define "stability" :) I have to add some acid every so often, but not like I was before. In the early stages I was adding acid every day, but now I am adding 16 oz of acid every 3-5 days. We have a spa spillover so it gets 10 hours of aeration a day, which will raise pH some. I am little...

What TA range is correct? TF-100 instr. or Pool School?

Thanks, good info. So I looked at the pool school some more and found My TA is currently at 60 (per test done yday) and my goal is to get it to 80, fyi. I do have a spa spillover, so will look to keep it at 60-80 per the above.

What TA range is correct? TF-100 instr. or Pool School?

Simple question - the instructions in my TF-100 test kit say 100-120 is the desired TA range for a non-SWG pool, but the Pool School says 70-90 is the desired range (plaster pool w/ bleach). I'll assume the Pool School range is correct, but can someone please confirm? Thanks!

Jandy PDA Remote time/date keep resetting

OK, I went ahead and swapped the battery to see if this was the issue. Before taking the old battery out, the diagnostic read "LOW" and now it reads "OK", so I will assume for now that they gave me an old/defective battery. Thanks for the feedback everyone, hopefully this simple fix is all I...

Jandy PDA Remote time/date keep resetting

Maybe I am not understanding you right, but I have had to reset the date/time on my PDA-4 at least 5 times in the last month and I assure you that we have not lost power for 72 hours straight, much less 72 minutes at a time. The date goes back to 1/6/09 or some odd default date and the time...

Jandy PDA Remote time/date keep resetting

I need to test the 9V battery in there now and replace if necessary. It would shock me if the date/time weren't saved if the battery is good.

Jandy PDA Remote time/date keep resetting

you know what, I think this is when it's happening to us as well. I never thought about it but I think you are on to something. Why does the time and date reset but nothing else? That's a crummy design!

Jandy PDA Remote time/date keep resetting

I have a Jandy PDA-4 remote and typically works great but sometimes the time and date will reset to some default setting. This is a problem because it means my pump won't turn on at the designated times. The odd thing is that all other settings remain saved properly. I have the 9V battery in...

    Self inviting pool guest?

One solution is to just not have any friends :( But seriously, that's pretty crummy for someone to use your pool unannounced AND leave the area messy. I don't mind family using our pool (we have few good friends, so it's more family) but they have to know that the area needs to be left as...

Adjusting TA, CH and CYA in new pool - how often to test?

Re: Adjusting TA, CH and CYA in new pool - how often to test ok, thanks. another question related to this is how often do I want to add chems to adjust TA, CH and CYA? I think I can add daily for TA and CH until I get into range but CYA I would wait a little longer?

Adjusting TA, CH and CYA in new pool - how often to test?

Re: Adjusting TA, CH and CYA in new pool - how often to test Sorry, I was talking more about frequency of testing TA, CH and CYA. I am testing FC and pH daily :) But you answered my question as far as once I get my TA, CH and CYA in range. But until I get them in range, should I test those...

Adjusting TA, CH and CYA in new pool - how often to test?

Simple question - I did another full round of tests yday with the TF-100 and my CH, TA and CYA were on the low side (generally higher than 1 week ago when I tested and added some chems to adjust). Should I re-test in another week and then add another round of chems as needed? Or should I...

A few pics of the new pool

We finally put the landscaping behind the raised wall (went with some loropetalum, gardenia, pittosporum, African iris and some other perennials) and put some new grass around the deck. Last thing to do is get the modest summer kitchen built, which will get done in Aug.

Dead bird in the skimmer - time to superchlorinate?

FYI, my thread was inspired by another thread in the Chem 201 section about a dead animal in the pool in which the term "shock" was referenced several times, but as "increasing FC to shock level". I think "super-chlorinating" is more accurate since what I was asking about is a one-time event...

Comment from someone who "runs a pool store" - thoughts?

The funny thing is that it was not even a thread about pool care, it was a guy showing the work he did bringing an old crusty pool back from the dead. I just happened to mention the BBB method to share with others and this pool store guy chimed in with a few comments that I posted here. So...

Dead bird in the skimmer - time to superchlorinate?

Re: Dead bird in the skimmer - time to shock? fair enough, I edited the title and my first post to be more accurate. I even mentioned doing a one time chlorination to shock level the first time around, so should have been consistent.

Comment from someone who "runs a pool store" - thoughts?

No such laws/codes exist, especially seeing as how many of the products pool stores sell are chemically identical to products one can buy at the grocery store. I certainly don't feel foolish using bleach over puck/tabs, that's for sure.
