Heat Pump vs Gas Heater in NY

For maintaining heat 24/7 a heat pump is hands down the most economical way of heating. For a residential pool. Solar panels would be cheaper to run. Honestly if I had the money and access to natural gas I'd rather have all 3 types of heaters. I don't have pockets deep enough even in my...

Heat Pump vs Gas Heater in NY

Well since your gas heater isn't dead yet, there is nothing stopping you from adding a heat pump and leaving your gas heater in place. A heat pump is the better choice to keep a pool maintained at a constant warm temperature. When used with a solar cover the heat pump will keep your pool warm...

New AGP plumbing with heater...shut off valves/unions?

Union valve just under the skimmer and right before the return. If you cant easily get to the skimmer valve then another valve right before the pump. I put a valve on the inlet and outlet of my heater. Never installed a bypass for the heater, thought I was going to but never did as I've never...

Pump replacement question: Variable speed pumps for above ground pools??

You can easily find a VS pump that will work on 110 or 220 volt power. My superflo pump runs on both. The smaller VS pumps more often than not run on both now to increase the number of pools they will work with.

Pump replacement question: Variable speed pumps for above ground pools??

Because pool store employees often have no idea how a pump works. They just read what the box says. They also have to deal with an un-educated customer base that often has no idea what they want or need for a pool. Let alone how any of it works. There are lots of us here with VS pumps in...

Pump replacement question: Variable speed pumps for above ground pools??

Any VS pump, or any "in ground" pump, will work with an above ground pool. The only thing that makes a pump and "in ground pump" is that it is self priming. This allows the pump to be mounted above the surface of the pool. With above ground pools the pump is mounted below the water level...

    Replacing pump, looking for advice

The point to either VS or 2-speed is to save money on electricity. A single speed pool pump is very wasteful. The EPA is forcing all new pool pump installations greater than .75 hp to be VS pumps after next year. You certainly don't need a VS pump with your set up as you don't need to change...

    Stenner diy tubing

Nylon, polypropylene, or polyethylene tubing should be fine and easy to get. Take a fitting with you so you get the tubing size correct.

Anyone Regret Getting A Tan Pool Liner?

It's a mosaic tile pattern that is predominantly dark tan in color. Yes it does have a dark blue top edge. One of the things we like about it is that it appears to change color with different outdoor conditions.

    New build in DeWitt, Arkansas

This is my thoughts exactly. Keep the pool close enough to encourage people to use it. Connect the pool to the back of the house with a patio or deck this helps keep dirt and grass out of the pool. It also helps keep dripping wet kids out of the house if they have a solid surface to dry off...

    Clorox vs Liquid Chlorine

Anyone in the Northeast should be buying chlorine at Ocean State Job Lot they have been selling 12.5% for 2.99 a gallon all season long for the last 4 or 5 years running. It's never more than a month or two old.

Solar cover worth it swimming nearly every day

It depends on what you consider "worth it". The solar cover will make the pool warmer and reduce chlorine lose to the sun burning it off. They also help to keep dust and leaves out of your pool they won't keep everything out but it does help to stop some of the stuff. If you find the solar...

    Clorox vs Liquid Chlorine

Chlorox is a classic example of you are paying extra just for the lable. They have nothing to justify their price premium other than name recognition.

Whats the best above ground deck mounted pool ladder

The Lumio steps are going to get the company sued for making an entrapment drowning hazard. There is a safety reason why steps all have some sort of side to them in the water. You should not be able to get your body under them.

Whats the best above ground deck mounted pool ladder

My steps go in the first day we use the pool and they come out the day the winter cover goes on. That's the only time they move. I've never had an algae issue in my pool thanks to TFP. So much so that I feel like I've missed out on a right of passage in never having had to deal with a green...

Here for the experiment, and knowledge share.

Its still a bit early in the season up in the northern parts of the country for most of the stores to have pool chlorine stocked. Its getting close tho, I normally see things on shelves around may. Until then 6% is a decent alternative and generally is close in terms of being cost effective...

    What's your current pool temp?

54 in the water and 38 in the air this morning. If I can somehow find the time to get the all the equipment set up again its almost warm enough outside to not worry about freezing the pump.

    Pool uneven, legs leaning

I think I remember saying something about the only SAFE way to do the support legs was to drain the pool. There certainly are other ways to do it and they are drastically increase the risk of breaking the pool, property damage, and personal injury.

    AGP Heat Pump and Insulation

Honestly I wouldn't bother with the insulation on the side of the pool. I'd also be worried about the armaflex adhesive harming the material the pool is made of. I would make a floating cover from the aramaflex though if you can. That should hold in a good amount of heat. Pools lose most of...

    Concrete slab erosion

Has the concrete started tilting or cracking in the area where the void is? If it is still in good condition you don't really need to do anything drastic. If not you could always just use a stick and pack damp sand into the void to fill the gap and help prevent any further damage. Going...

    Pool Opening

You got it. I know it sounds to easy to be true but there is no magic start up or opening potions or chemicals. You get your pool uncovered and all the equipment running, skim out and leaves that found their way in over the winter, and then you test your water and adjust as needed. Hopefully...

Is a Solar Heater possible if my pump equipment is not next to the house?

The heat loss thru the pipe is minimal, PVC is a poor conductor of heat and there is a relatively small surface are to conduct heat. If possible do not bury the pipes and if you do bury them you may consider a insulating pipe wrap for the pipes that are buried. In the end though even buried...

Is a Solar Heater possible if my pump equipment is not next to the house?

You should have no problems other than where to run the pipes so they look nice. That short of a pipe run is insignificant in terms of plumbing loss when compared to the resistance of the panels themselves. Your pump should have zero issues running that kind of panel set up. The only drawback...

    Pool uneven, legs leaning

Not to be a downer but it looks like you didn't put any solid blocking under the legs of the pool. The legs of the pool bear the weight of water pushing on the walls and when the pool is full that's a fairly significant weight. The weight of the water is driving the legs into the ground from...
