    PVC Question

You are just fine, Paul! If you have seal now you should have no issues at all. There is not a hard and fast rule on entry depth. It is typical for dry fit not to go in all the way. And depending on brand of of fitting or pipe it can be different often.

Huh....go figure....good ol' City of Mesa water out of the tap tests out at 150 TA!

Sand filter extremely "clogged" after 4 months

I am with Bama on this one as well. My first thought was that you've definitely got to "pre-filter" in order to get a lot of the larger chunks and debris out before passing back through the pump and sand filter. A "spin" or vortex filter is an excellent way to accomodate this. (google...

I've been curious about that. Going to give that tap water a test!

First test run with the TF-100 test kit

Hi, Dave....yes, keeping her open year round here in AZ....will still be using the spa here over the winter. Jason, thanks. Yes, was not too worried about TA right now, although I like the concept of adding borates, and in reading about such in Pool School I will eventually have to get that TA...

First test run with the TF-100 test kit

Okay. Had a rare day off today so I finally got a chance to run full test again. Since my original post a few days ago I did add some MA, and I also adjusted the pump run time down to 2 hours per day. The SWG is set at 10%. Here's the results: PH 7.5 FC 15.0 CC -0- TA 150 CH 280 CYA...

    Spa temperature Rise

I have a spillover spa, heated with an electric heat pump. Right now the unheated temperature of the water is about 60F, 2 hours on the button has been my average time to heat up to 100. Also a 1000 gal spa....... But yes, I would think a gas heated spa would typically take less time than...

    Now What?

About the only thing I can think of causing that is a small leak past the connection lead seal to the blades.....wouldn't take much saline water to get into that to cause the corrosion and short....... Probably not "field fixable"......sorry that this happened! I have very little long term...

Help with extracting cracked winter plug recessed spa jet

Re: Help with extracting cracked winter plug recessed spa je No. The heat should make the fitting pliable. Using needle nose pliers you should be able to grip part of the fitting and simply pull it out. It should become pliable like thick taffy.

Help with extracting cracked winter plug recessed spa jet

Re: Help with extracting cracked winter plug recessed spa je Okay....my reading comprehension drops drastically after a few beers.....just re-read your original post and see that the fitting is still submerged.....in my opinion you're going to have to get it exposed to get the plug out..... :(

Help with extracting cracked winter plug recessed spa jet

Re: Help with extracting cracked winter plug recessed spa je If you have access to a heat gun, apply the hot air to the fitting for a few minutes and you will be able to simply pull the fitting out with some needlenose pliers...... If no heat gun then a propane torch will work, but use more...

First test run with the TF-100 test kit

Thank you, Dave! I trust your advice! And it all fits in with my plan to manage my own pool and not trust somebody else to be yanking it around. Agreed, it was not just the lighting, the kid sloshed chemicals around during his test like he couldn't wait to be done with me. He was successful...

First test run with the TF-100 test kit

Thanks, Jeff......yes I did it in full sun, waist level, back to the sun. I will run it once or twice again just for my own confidence. It makes sense, the pool store conducts their tests under strip mall fluorescent lighting......

Was it dust, or yellow algae?

Hi, APD....I'm in Mesa. I'm no expert on yellow algae, but we certainly have no shortage of dust fines that resemble what you described.......I've been pulling up what you described in my pool cleaner all week.....

First test run with the TF-100 test kit

Alright.....had to go run some errands including picking up more MA today. Just for grins took a sample into the pool store. Told him I was most interested in CYA test, he runs it and tells me "you've got plenty, it's at 105 which is a little high, but okay". Of course based on high FC he...

First test run with the TF-100 test kit

I've been mainly focused on PH creep (more like PH "jog") since start up of this pool......I haven't hit any "panic" buttons, yet, as the water has remained "clear and pretty"......our fill water here is very hard, though, so have been concerned about potential scaling.....

And THAT is why I posted this here. Thank you, Linen! I will go investigate that route..... The other test kit I had been using had also been showing "off the color chart orange" for a couple of weeks so I could not get an accurate number, just knew it was higher than 5.0...... Still...

First test run with the TF-100 test kit

Okay, finally got a chance this weekend to run a full test using my new TF-100 test kit. Have been using a Stanley kit supplied by the PB since July, but wanted to make sure I was using the good stuff. Here's my numbers: FC - 14! (Have dialed back the pump run time as of this to 2 hours a...

    Dolphin Premier

Oh, just wanted to add that the cartridges are very simple! I've never had any experience with cleaning out a filter bag, but these were a cinch to rinse out and they look like they did a pretty great job of sucking up the fine dirt out of the pool!

Thanks for the welcome, Patrick! I appreciate the synopsis as well, everybody's info helped me decipher the Maytronics confusing info and decide on a model. I figured for the money that I'm already spending I may as well go the distance and get the remote option too. After last night's...

Sealing threaded connections - what's the secret?

Just to clarify....on metal to metal threaded connections liberal use of teflon tape is just fine......just avoid use on plastic threads! I still prefer sealant paste even on metal to metal....the gunk flows to the voids in threads better.....

    Dolphin Premier

Just picked up my M5 today. Got lucky, found a great price on line, discovered that the supplier is headquartered in my town (Mesa AZ) so they allowed me to pick it up instead of being delivered. I asked them about Maytronics' issue on warranty versus internet sales, they told me that the way...

Sealing threaded connections - what's the secret?

Do not use teflon tape on PVC threaded fittings.....the fittings manufacturers don't want you doing that. It will work in a pinch, but absolutely no more than 3 wraps. Preferably use a thread sealant paste, which is manufacturer recommended. PVC threads are a molded taper, as opposed to steel...

    cracks in PVC

PVC cement does not technically "dry", it is a "solvent weld" cement which actually "melts" the PVC and causes it to fuse together....it "cures" is more accurate....

    cracks in PVC

If you use a PVC cement like IPS Weld-On 725 Wet or Dry cement you can even pressurize within minutes of application if necessary, although full cure takes about 24 hours, but I've used this stuff to temporarily cap broken PVC pipes with water flowing.....it's very quick stuff!

    cracks in PVC

I concur with James' recommendation......it's the most likely solution to seal up properly while at the same time preventing that crack from growing. The only other fix is cutting out the fitting and using an elbow and coupling to splice back in......which can be a tricky plumbing job if you're...
