    Surge protector and panel wiring

Hey Chuck, I was looking at your panel. Looks like you have an 8 slot. I don't see a main breaker, is that because the dual poles count as a single throw, so technically its not needed because you only have 5 throws to shut everything down? Reason i ask is my plan is backfiring, Square D does...

    Surge protector and panel wiring

Hey Dirk, Yeah, it is rated for tandem breakers since its 6 slots and 12 circuits. Jim and Chuck basically verified what i was digging at. I think I have it all figured out now. I appreciate everyones help.

    Surge protector and panel wiring

Hey Chuck, I don't have anything hooked up to it yet except the #3 wire i ran to the shed. I'm in the planning process, so when i start i can just breeze through etting it done. This stupid strom today is delaying me getting stuff done. I was all fine and dandy until i saw everyone say you need...

    Surge protector and panel wiring

So I ordered a pentair superflo VSP, i have a heat pump, and the new chlorinator just arrived (YAY). I'm seeing more and more talk about surge protection. I spent a lot of time digging and running pipe (125 feet of misery) to my shed, where i installed a 100 amp 6 spot 12 circuit breaker. I know...

Wiring heat pump questions, and surge protection

I haven't looked through the code book, but i've read a lot about it online through other forums and i think i saw that on TFP too. At the end of the day i will probably just wire it using #6. this way its guaranteed to pass inspection for the cost of a few extra dollars per wire.

Wiring heat pump questions, and surge protection

I thought since its a heat pump with a motor, that you only have to match to the minimum circuit amp? Only reason i asked is because there are lots of situations where pumps with motors may have #8 and also have a 70amp breaker. All this heat pump reading is going to give me an ulcer. LOL

    VS Motor surge protection

Im researchng this as well to right now, glad i came across this post. Some 20amp dual pole breakers will allow two circuits per lug, like the Square D homeline or QO breakers. So if you already have one 20 amp dual pole breaker for say your pump, you should be able to just hook it up to that...

Wiring heat pump questions, and surge protection

I just spoke to aqua comfort and they told me a 40amp breaker is the minimum, and 70amp is the largest. So im going to put in a 50amp and go from there. Hopefully it works. From reading online it seemed like i would need something bigger than the 40 minimum due to start up, but maybe since the...

Wiring heat pump questions, and surge protection

Im seeing lots of equations online for figuring it out, but i continue to just confuse myself. I know needing a bigger breaker has to do with start up. there are different reasons, and i think you either multiply by 225% or 125% of the FLA, but again, im not sure. Im really hoping someone can...

Wiring heat pump questions, and surge protection

Im having trouble finding the correct info on my heat pump through search on the web. I bought a used Aqua Comfort LS MBP-125 for $200 from a friends friend, it was used twice before they switched to propane. The manual provides little information. Im trying to plan ahead and get everything...

I think im just going to order it on Amazon, it goes for $650 I think, there is someone on ebay selling them for...

    Replacing old 1 speed pump

So I have an old Centurion 3/4HP single speed pump. The thing is loud and I can hear the bearing is ready to go. Everything is ran down on this thing. I was floating the idea of a variable speed pump (i have a Hayward SP2303VSP and Pentair 342001 in the amazon cart) After lots of reading on TFP...

I also dont plan to run everything 24/7, most likely 8am-8pm. will that make a difference?

    CircuPool RJ30 or RJ45?

Im debating over the CircuPool RJ30 or RJ45 (Discount Salt Pool sale). I had no plans to go SWG but I was not good with maintaining chlorine last year, and it just makes to much sense for me. I had algae breakouts 1-2 times a month because I was missing days of adding bleach. We only have the...

Planning new setup for spring, thoughts and advice before purchasing

Thanks Needsajet, yeah the heater is a steal, really happy about that. I'm still so up and down on sand vs cartridge though. Im not a fan of backwashing, but i think i was backwashing to much the last 2 years. i was doing it once a week and i don't think that was really needed.

Planning new setup for spring, thoughts and advice before purchasing

So I'm planning, and getting ready to buy a new pump, filter, and heat pump for the pool this year. A little background, Im not not 100% sure on size, but the pool is kidney shaped and around 12,500 gallons. The pump and filter will sit next to a shed that is below the pool deck. The pump and...

    Bonding my 70's pool

I watched the Mike Holt video, and then tested all the metal areas for voltage. Voltage was the same at all points around the pool, minus the pool equipment. The pump looks to have been changed out in the 90's, i think that's when the ground rod was put in, along with the single wire connected...

    Bonding my 70's pool

Ok, so we have some good and some bad. First the good, everything attached to the pool, fence, pool light, jbox are all bonded. Only one of the anchors for the ladder registered the same volts as everything else but that won't matter because it will all be the same when I put the ladder in, when...

    Bonding my 70's pool

You guys have all been a huge help. I really, really, appreciate it. BAMA- Thanks for the info, I don't have easy access to the ground rod, its under the shed, its a weird setup where the shed is 10 ft from a retaining wall that holds up the pool area, and all the equipment is in a floor...

    Bonding my 70's pool

Thanks for the info, I read some of the code stuff online previously. I wasnt able to make out everything on those pages, but i can see the section numbers so i can google it. I have no idea who put the pool in, it was installed in the 70's so it makes it difficult, I may be able to call and see...

    Bonding my 70's pool

I've been doing lots of searching and have now become a crazy man about my pool not being bonded. I am a new father and i want to make sure the pool is safe when she can finally use it. I thought i was fine, and the pool was bonded when i saw a copper wire covered in green sheathing attached to...

Wiring and pool setup. Thoughts and suggestions?!?

Thanks for the suggestions, they really help with narrowing down what i want to do. Im leaning towards just keeping the black poly at this point, seems like a lot of work. Only reason i was considering replacing it was i may have the patio ripped up anyway in a few weeks, so thought it might...

Hey Everyone, This is a long post, i was looking for any ideas or suggestions for my current setup, my initial post was just looking for how to wire everything together, but i realized there's just whole lot wrong with my setup and would like some thoughts. Below is a description of my setup...

    Raypak 266 vs 336

I thought about a heat pump, but I've been told its not the most reliable option in the northeast, especially when you may even want to extend you swim season. We are really only guaranteed 8-10 weeks of strong warm weather, and after that it may get too cold at night for a heat pump. I...

    Raypak 266 vs 336

Hey Everyone, I'm somewhat new to the forum, I usually stick to searching to find what I need to know. Such a huge inventory of knowledge on this board, but I didn't have that much luck this time around. It seems everyone just says to go with a large 406 BTU heater. The pool without a heater...

NOOB: Filter Opinion, Beating a dead Horse

Thanks for the responses guys. Coincidentally I had ordered the TF100 kit about 5 minutes before I post this thread. I think I'm going to order the cartridge filter. I'm assuming 320 sq ft is fine, as i should only need around 200 with the size of the pool, and since the pool is only open 4...

NOOB: Filter Opinion, Beating a dead Horse

So I am new to the forums, but have been reading constantly, moved into my house last year. We have an old Gunite pool. I live in CT. All the equipment is from the 1990's (YIKES), but it all still runs, and does the trick for now. 1HP Magnetek pump, and some old metal sand filter. Even the...
