OK, good, that's what I figured on the FC. OK, thanks--I'd read that di-chlor is pH neutral, so hadn't expected any declines but perhaps that's not perfectly true with my batch. Will keep an eye on it. Regarding the difference in FC usage in the last 24 hrs vs. the previous 24 hrs, I guess...

Some more data if anyone is still following this: After my test yesterday morning, I shocked it via di-chlor with the intent to take it to 12.0 FC but I overshot a bit (Used too large of a measurement container and knew it wasn't precise, so preferred adding too much to too little; I'll use a...

I did an Ahh-some purge (2 rounds), drain and fill on Sunday and added di-chlor to a measured FC of 10.5 that night. Water temp was at 70 when I tested roughly 12 hours later and got a 8.5 FC result. Turned heater up to normal 100 degree level and checked this morning (roughly 24 hrs later)...

OK, here's a quick update on things for anyone interested: Completed the Aww-some purge (2 rounds) yesterday--lots of brown foamy gunk but actually less than I expected based on some videos I'd seen when preparing. Drained, wiped down with 50% Clorox solution and re-filled. Calibrated flow...

Thanks, James. I did find the "Effects of Adding" function in the iOS app, which provides this info as well. I'm slowly figuring stuff out...

Newbie needs help with spa water chemistry problems

Am working to get my pH and TA dialed in after a refill and, after several rounds of MA and testing, I have them down to 7.4 and 60. Want to get TA down to 50 but, now that I'm so close, I'm unsure how to avoid "overshooting" the reduction using MA via the Pool Math app recommendations. When I...

This bit about testing pH when FC levels are above 10 (a situation I faced yesterday) is gold: Thanks again!

    Good stuff--thanks!

This is probably a dumb question, but I want to fully understand how this stuff works. When lowering pH via adding MA, should I run the jets like I do with other chem additions? Or does this create more aeration that messes up the pH decline I'm trying to achieve via the MA addition? Thanks!

This is awesome---is there a way I'm not seeing to get this info via the iOS app or is this only available via the web calculator? Thanks!

Thanks but this is for spa chems, so only around 420 gallons. Probably need a bit more precision than my crappy eyes can provide!

Great--thanks! Same 5 mins for baking soda?

When adjusting chems via Pool Math, it suggests amounts for solids like di-chlor and calcium chloride in terms of weight. Do people actually weigh this stuff or is it close enough to use fluid ounces of volume instead of ounces of weight (i.e. 1 fluid oz roughly equal to 1 ounce of weight)...

I've seen recommendations for pools but assuming it's shorter for spas, given how much less time it takes for full circulation. What's the rule of thumb? Thanks!

Thanks! Is there a limit to how low you’d let the CSI go in a fiberglass spa?

I'm preparing to drain/fill and begin using a Saltron Mini SWG and wondering how people adjust the Chlorine spa recommendations here when using a SWG: Nitro's Approach To Water Maintaince Using Pool Math, if I plug in the recommended 7.4 pH, 50 TA, 150 CH, 30 CYA, 100 F temp, 50 Borate and...

Newbie needs help with spa water chemistry problems

I will! The guide advises shocking to 12 FC weekly but I've read elsewhere here that shocking is unnecessary if adequate FC levels are maintained at all times. Do you have a view on that? I do have a separate post asking about how to adapt (if at all) the guide to a SWG system (as the guide...

Thanks. I'd read that post (several times) but Nitro is describing a non-SWG scenario and the chart indicates a much higher level (for reasons I don't understand) for pool SWG scenarios, so I'm trying to see if the SWG addition changes Nitro's recommendation. And, regarding the chart, I'm not...

I've been going through the awesome Pool School stuff and trying to convert the advice to spa usage wherever possible, but I'm confused on the Chlorine/CYA chart: Chlorine / CYA Chart The CYA recommendation for SWG pools is much higher than for liquid chlorine yet it does say 20-30 ppm for...

Thanks. Looks like DC makes water softener pellets that are 99.8% pure, water softener crystals that are 99.6% pure and Splash Ready Pool Salt that's "over 99%" pure. Links below. I can get any of these--which would you recommend? Water Softener Salt | Diamond Crystal® Salt Splash Ready Pool...
