    Wireless Water Sensor/Leak Detection

Hi, I am putting most of my pumps/equipment in an underground utility closet attached to a bathroom. I am looking for a wireless water sensor system to detect leaks and if something happens to my system that begins to flood the room. I would love something that is wireless that would call or...

Pool Started! - Pavers this weekend!

Re: Pool Design out to Bid - does the quoted bid look comple Signing a contract today, the company I went with was the lowest (with that being said, I like his work and he has a relationship with my best friend who builds custom homes, so I should be taken care of). His bide was right at $73k...

Automatic Pool Cover (APC) - color options?

Anyone have an APC cover? Looks like my pool company "owns" the APC dealership in the SLC area. He promises very short service times, which is great. Looking at the book, there a bunch of colors. Do these fade in the sun overtime? Is there logic to choose one color over another? Thanks, Jim

All Bids in - a few specific questions?

Thanks for the feedback, its funny, you get quotes, but until you meet the contractors the real connection doesn't happen. I am lucky, I like the lowest bidding company. Next week I will meet with them again and get their opinions on the equipment on the list. As information, I used a 3rd...

All Bids in - a few specific questions?

My last bid came in at $74K, makes me feel much better :-) It is a 16' x 44' pool (with 8' x 16' being a 10" deep tanning ledge), the pool is a play pool design, so no deep end. -Building permit -Excavation and removal of spoils -16’ x 44’ steel reinforced gunite pool shell according to...

Re: Pool Design out to Bid - does the quoted bid look comple Thanks for the direction on questions, I will ask more specific ones. I wish I was in a an area with a large demand for pools, seems like SLC is just plain higher in price :-( I have two more bids still, just threw another company...

Pool Started! - Pavers this weekend!

Re: Pool Design out to Bid - does the quoted bid look comple Not too many comments on my information, so a direct question, do I need an ozonator? Looks like that is usually installed in commercial pools, is my pool over engineered?

Pool Started! - Pavers this weekend!

Re: Pool Design out to Bid My first bid came in from a company that I knew would be on the high side (we have a total of 4 companies bidding), I almost fell out of my chair $147,000? The second bid was $88,000, still higher than expected, I was guessing around $75k - $80k, but what a...

Pool Started! - Pavers this weekend!

I have my design out to bid to 3 companies in the Salt Lake City area - pretty nervous. There is not enough pools/competition in the area. Attached a picture, the drawings are actually 3 pages, but I deleted information off the first page so it would be small enough to attach. Wish me luck!

    Using Engineering Firm?

Saving was probably not the right word. He actually started the process a year earlier without his buddy's help. He was confused because the bids varied around $20k. That is what started the discussion with the engineer (the company does mostly commercial, but some residential). The firm...

    Using Engineering Firm?

I am planning on installing a pool next Spring. Was looking into fiberglass, but now leaning towards a gunite pool. A friend used a local engineering firm to develop the plans (all the details, pipe sizes, locations, pump sizes, etc.), they would help me bid to the 4 or 5 local installers, do...

    Bathroom/Pool Changing Area

Understand the question now, grade is fine, no water in basement. In Utah, it takes a lot for that to be a problem, plus my home is up higher than others. Basement does have covering per code, but not dealing with a NJ area where I have lived before.

    Bathroom/Pool Changing Area

The bathroom will be the same level as my basement, which is a 9' ceiling. I have a full bathroom in the basement now, so same level as that. Given this will be mostly for the pool, I was thinking easy cleanup and practical use. Not a normal layout.

    Bathroom/Pool Changing Area

I have a limited yard and have decided to move forward with a fiberglass pool - most likely Trilogy Regulus with tanning deck on one side. Given the limitation on fenced in yard, I am planning on doing the following: I have a walkout from my basement. Once you open the door there are (guess...

    Jet Solar

Thanks for the feedback. I don't plan on mounting them to the fence, but "in front" of the fence so I don't take up too much space. I have a contractor buddy who can build anything (including my basement and hot tub deck) - he will design some sort of structure for the system.

    Jet Solar

Great information, just enough to make me really confused  I am looking for a good fence solution, I have a section that gets sunlight all day (well most of the day) - it is a 6' tall vinyl fence that I would like to mount something on. Given my HOA, putting panels on the roof would...

    Is stamped concrete dangerously slick

I am planning on stamped concrete in my build (1st quarter - Elegance 40). I visited the same pool at the builder's brother's house this weekend and the concrete looked great. They did seem to apply a lot of "pressure" to get deep impressions.

    1st Bid - wow

Very impressive on the DIY, a little more than I want to handle, but we will do everything besides the pool installation - we will do yard, pavers, outside lights, etc. I want the company to do the fiberglass pool and the 3' or so of required concrete so warranty never becomes a he said/she...

    1st Bid - wow

I am pretty sure I am going with the fiberglass pool. My next step is to submit a plan to our HOA, not a big issue, but want approval before doing anything else. Over the next couple of months, I will work with a contractor buddy to build a bathroom/shower for the pool. Going to be a little...
