Replacing 1hp, 2 speed pump motor

I just purchased a 1.5 Hp 2 speed motor for $300. I do my own labor.

Emerson vs Century/AOSmith motor Jandy JHPU2.0

What is important is the frame size, HP and single/dual speed. Please note that uprated and full rated motors of equal horsepower will work. I don't think that there is much difference between brands.

Can I replace an Aqua Logic board with a Pro Logic board? Please help!

I believe the that large PCB in these units is very similar. I remember looking into one time long ago about upgrading my Aqua Plus unit to a ProLogic. The only real difference was the local display as this has all of the control functions within. The large PCB is just a slave to the local...

    Pool Pump Motor Corrosion Prevention

In the ten years I have owned our pool, I have had to replace the pump motor twice. I agree that dis-similar metal corrosion is at fault. However bolts can be replaced. What came into play with my pumps was corrosion on the front (pump end) end bell. The end bell is aluminum and the motor casing...

Variable speed pool pump vs Single speed pump

I second (or third) the advice of going to a two speed motor. Keep the pump find a two speed motor with the same frame size and install it on the pump. As a bonus you might find the that two speed motor runs quitter and uses less power even on high speed. However like Mark said it might just be...

    automatic pH controller

I second the use of a Stenner pump. I have one for adding acid and it works great. Now if I can just remember to fill the acid tank.

    PebbleTec and pool brushes

I have had my PebbleTec pool for about nine years. There has been a consistent problem in that if I let the FC go below 5, I start to get growth in the pool. According to various tables on this site and also other places on the web this should not be so. Anyway last week I started to get green...

Texas vs. SWG - What is the deal

I have had my salt pool for over nine years. I have no unusual corrosion over that time. However I do have brick coping, tile water line and concrete pavers. In the nine years I have replaced the salt cell once, and the pump motor (just the motor not the entire pump) twice. I also have a solar...

I also have the same issue. I do however use a Poly 60 algaecide which helps clarify the pool.

    SWG Trouble

You might have too high of a salt level. This would result in an overcurrent situation and the unit will shut itself off. What is your salt level?

Air Bubbles in Pump Strainer Pot

Ccheck the tightness of the strainer top. I had that same problem. The give away was that the pump did not loose prime over night while shut off.

    Automated pH balancer

The problem I had with low TA was that it would not stay there. After several months would be back up in the 90-120 range. To answer the OP question, I installed a Stiener feed pump and tank to feed MA on a daily basis. I use my Hayward Aqua Plus controller to turn the pump on and off, running...

    Cavitation noise at solar valve

I have a solar heater which is controlled by a three way valve. Recently (in the past several months) I have noticed a noise similar to cavitation or turbulence coming from around that valve. Filter pump is still working correctly, filter pressure is still at its usual level, no discernible...

    TA calibration solution

This is off topic for a swimming pool, but I would like to get the chemistry experts to weight in on this. As part of my work, I am setting up a titration type analyzer which measures total alkalinity in mg/L as calcium carbonate. This analyzer uses a standard alkalinity solution as part of its...

Longer run time vs higher percentage?

I think that cell life is related to amp-hours which is amps times time. So should not affect the life of the cell one way or another. For my pool, I have solar heating so I want the pump to rune during daylight hours. Your system may vary.

1.5 HP or 2 HP pool pump? 27000 gal pool

I agree with jblizzle that most pumps can be repaired and/or upgraded at a considerable cost savings over a new pump.

How good are electronic ph meters?

I supply and use industrial pH meters. These are high end online instruments. Generally the users of these instruments calibrate them monthly. I would imagine that on lower end pool systems you could get by with that same schedule.

    Great White front floats

I have a Pentair Great White pool cleaner. In the ladt six months this cleaner has developed an issue with the front end wanting to lift up off the bottom of the pool. Has anyone encountered this problem. I have been thinking of adding some weight to the front bumper bar.

is a variable speed worth it?

A very inexpensive modification is to replace your current single speed motor with an equivalent two speed motor. Very often this results not only in a better payoff but also in a much quieter motor.

The age old single vs multispeed pump question

What size piping will he be using? Most pools are built with 2" PVC piping. I would question the use of anything smaller. 2" will work with a 1.5 Hp pump.

    My first SLAM....and still SLAM-ing

Re: Do I need a new main PCB panel? Yes the power to the cell does go and off during the times when the filter pump is running. The power sent to the cell is fixed and generally is not controllable. What Hayward does is cycle the power on and off to the cell on a percentage basis based on the...

    Wireless Pool Monitor on Kickstarter

I have some experience with ORP measurement in pools. The main issue is that above 30 ppm of CYA ORP shows very little change for large changes in FC levels and becomes unusable for measuring FC. For pools with low levels of CYA, ORP can be used. I would expect that this unit would be usable for...

Small leak from pump -- worry? Don't worry?

Yes. Might be coming from the seal between the pump and the motor. Over time the housing of the motor will rust out and also the front bearing will be damaged. The bearing can be replaced, but the motor housing will require a replacement motor.

    Aaaah!

It doesn't rain but pours. Been on vacation for a week, so pool without maintenance for two weeks. Now both the pump bearings AND the SWG cell are bad. Will pull the pump this afternoon to start to change the bearings. However I would like some advise or testimonies on a replacement Hayward T-15...

    SWG Recommendation - Brand Specific

I vote for Hayward. Built our pool in 2007 with an Aqua Plus unit and T-15 cell. SWG cell is still working, although it is looking like I will need to replace the cell soon. Most of the time I run the unit at 20~30% with an eight hour pump run. With proper chemical balance and a clean pool I use...

    2 Speed Pump and SWG

I have a Hayward T-15 cell and my pumps runs on low most of time. I have never had this issue. One possible solution is to place a ball valve on the discharge after the cell. Adjust (close) it until the problem goes away. On high you will have to open the valve.
