    Chili Recipe?

Nopalitos are commonly found in the Mexican food aisle of major grocery stores. They look like green chiles.

    Chili Recipe?

What you need is to get a recipe book by the El Paso Chile Company. There you will find THE best chili recipe ever: Park's West Texas Democrat Chili. Forget ground meat! This is made west Texas style with stew beef, roasted peppers, and nopalitos (cactus leaves). It takes about 5 hours to make...

    Initial pool layout - pics

Vince, thanks. All of the rooms in the house have 9' ceilings except for the great room which has 14'. Upstairs to the right of the picture is a custom equipped theater - not huge, but fantastic for watching HD movies.

What to do with excavated dirt?

The PB has given me the option of keeping the excavated dirt to be rough graded around the pool area, or having it taken away for an added cost. The pool site is already pretty decent as far as being level with my surrounding slabs and patio, so I don't think I will need a lot of dirt to level...

    Initial pool layout - pics

SeanB, good point, but...we did that on purpose. We didn't want the pool that close to the deck. The patio and pool deck will be connected by a four foot wide walk. There will be raised gardens on either side. I guess we will see how it works.

Thanks! It gets pretty chilly here; at least the water will. Good thing I have a couple of wetsuits! :-D

    Initial pool layout - pics

Here are a couple of pics of the pool layout. We marked the location of the pool and decking. The inner outline is the edge of the pool, 12x24. It will be surrounded by a 4 foot wide two-tone spray-texture deck with an expanded area in the rear for lounge chairs. There will be four deck jets...

    Zodiac LM3 or something else

Thanks for all the replies. I really didn't intend for this to get out of hand. I told my PB I wanted a Pool Pilot and they said it would cost extra. They are throwing in the LM3 as a winter install promo, so I would be silly to turn it down. If it ever goes south on me, I will switch. I have...

    Zodiac LM3 or something else

Sean, I didn't mean to make my statement sound the way you took it. In fact I want an AutoPilot, but my PB doesn't carry that line. If folks were to say stay away from the LM3, I would remove it from my contract and buy the AP after the fact and install it myself. I have done tons of research...

    Zodiac LM3 or something else

Thanks Jason! That's what I found in my research, but I wanted a conformation from the experts here. I know this is an AutoPilot biased group, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Getting ready to pull the trigger

I will be signing the contract with my PB tomorrow. Install will be a 12x24 rectangular IG vinyl pool. I have learned a lot on this forum, and want to say thanks for everyone's involvement in this excellent information source.

    Zodiac LM3 or something else

My PB has listed the LM3 as my SWCG for my install. The pool is small (about 9k gal). I have read the comments here about the different brands of units and was wondering if I should press the PB to offer other options. I talked to a guy who has the exact setup/size as my install and he is...

    Deck jets and statues question

My install includes four deck jets. Instead of the normal stream of water, I was thinking of using small statues (frogs, fish, etc) on top of each jet to channel the water. Kinda hard to explain. Has anyone here done this? Any pics or sources of such a thing? Thanks Lee

What is the plywood for in the corner? Do you have a pic of the steps? We are considering the same layout and would like to see what it looks like. Thanks,

Tiny Ants in Pool.... how do I stop them!!!!

This is the best stuff ever made for ants. We applied it at our previous home and never had an ant problem since for 12 YEARS!! Our neighbors hated us because all the ants ran to their yards. It's not cheap, but worth every penny.

    Constant depth pool?

My wife and I are in the process of designing our pool and are considering a constant depth of about 4'6". Our kids are gone and we don't want a diving board. We just want to float and relax. I would think this would lower the cost of the pool. I know from experience that a big aquarium is...

    DwnSth's Pool

Fantastic. I had ruled out vinyl, but now I will give it another look. Can you explain how your steps were built? That is the one turnoff for me with vinyl; the appearance that the steps are just tacked on to one end. Thanks for sharing. Lee
