    Circupool Edge40 Installation

Thanks so much, @1poolman1. To be clear: The purpose of the pipe extender is to raise the pipe going to the returns so that there is one, straight, horizontal run from the filter to the elbow above the returns - correct?

    Circupool Edge40 Installation

I'm planning to install a Circupool Edge40 this week and could use some help on wiring and plumbing. Plumbing: We have a simple setup: no heater, no spa, no water features. There is plenty of space to install the unit and the flow switch. The complication is that both the former owner and...

    Persistent cloudy water

Thanks, Richard and Jason. Yes, there is a main drain, and it's working. The deep water doesn't seem to be any cloudier than the water in other parts of the pool - there's just more cloudy water to look thru to see the deep end. Per your advice, I'm leaving the cover off today. I was waiting...

    Persistent cloudy water

Thanks for any insight you all can give me on this puzzle. I've had this pool for 11 years, and this is the biggest water problem so far. This winter I didn't lower the water, just left the solar cover on and ran the pump when temperatures got below freezing. I planned to keep some Cl in the...

Mystery Leak: Need help with detection

I ended up calling American Leak Detection here in Charlotte. I found them very professional. They found one large leak and several smaller leaks in the liner; the pipes checked out fine. I would recommend them to anyone in the area with a similar problem.

Mystery Leak: Need help with detection

The rate of water loss was exactly the same with the pump pulling through both the side drain and the main drain as it was when pulling only through the main drain. For the next two hours, we'll test with the pump off.

Mystery Leak: Need help with detection

OK, I ran the pump for 2 hours only pulling through the main drain. I did lose less water during this time (though the leak was still rapid). I've now opened the side drain and will see if in the next two hours the rate of leakage changes.

Mystery Leak: Need help with detection

The speed of the leak today does not vary with the pump being on or off. And, no, there is no leak from the waste port.

Mystery Leak: Need help with detection

I've had a leak in my pool for a while, as discussed in this thread. It has been very inconsistent, making it quite difficult to determine the source. It was leaking in the spring, then didn't leak at all for two months, then was leaking somewhat slowly - then last night began leaking at a very...

Lets hear your pool critter stories.

We've had vultures too - used to have >100 who would roost on the powerlines not far to the rear of our property. One morning I woke up to find one right on the end of my diving board, looking like he was going to jump in. A neighbor took to shooting his gun to scare them off, so they no...

    Slow Leak - Just Ignore?

Re: Slow Leak - now a fast leak: How to detect? OK, a long delayed update. Boy is this a strange leak. Back at the time of my last post, I thought I had successfully sealed the bottom drain. The leak continued, at first at a seemingly slower rate. About a week later I went out of town for 4...

    Slow Leak - Just Ignore?

I've put a contraption together that should seal the bottom drain - I was able to get it in place without getting in the water - removing it may be more problematical. In any event, I'll have more information in the morning. Thanks for your help.

    Slow Leak - Just Ignore?

Well, now I no longer have a slow leak. I opened the pool Monday after I posted here. Since then I have been losing water at a much faster rate - about 400 gallons/day over and above evaporation. However, what's strange is that with the pump off and the skimmer plugged - so basically the same...

    Slow Leak - Just Ignore?

Thanks for the thoughts. My winter water level is not below the light niche. I have done the dye test around the light, however, and don't notice any movement of the dye. The returns are all above the winter water level. I do have one spot in the vinyl which is scratched - perhaps from when the...

    Slow Leak - Just Ignore?

Last fall before closing I thought I might have a leak, since I seemed to have to top off the pool water more frequently than in past years. Yet that need seemed erratic. Did the bucket test several times, and did not get consistent results. Before closing, I squirted dye around the most likely...

When is your water too cool for a dip?

I'm with Durk - I use my pool more for exercise than for lounging, and I prefer the temperature to be under 80. Water is about 65 now - I'll have a last couple of workouts and then close. Though I may have a leak in the vinyl (if so, that'll be another thread) which will require me to be in...

    My Experience at Aldi

I load 10 jars of bleach in my cart, along with several other items. As the cashier starts to add up the cost, she looks at me and asks, "Do you own a pool?" Word is getting out!

Lets hear your pool critter stories.

Sometimes moles and other small rodents die of other causes and end up in the pool. Yesterday morning i had two moles on top of my solar cover, completely dry, but quite dead. One had an obvious head injury - I chose not to closely inspect the other! My theory: Some sort of predatory bird...

    skimmer sock

Here in NC, these are invaluable during pollen season. I tend not to use them later in the summer, and just backwash somewhat more frequently.

Is there a chemical to detect urine in the pool?

Just know your chlorine demand and keep adding sufficient chlorine to keep up your levels. If you have an unusual number of swimmers, or unusually young (or old, for that matter) swimmers who are more likely to pee, add extra chlorine after they leave.

Lets hear your pool critter stories.

This afternoon, I took the solar cover off and scooped some debris off the bottom, then jumped in wearing my Aquajogger float for some pool running. First lap around while going under the diving board I saw something else joining me for a swim - a copperhead. Not large - maybe 10" long - but I...

    Closing an in ground pool

Johnny B: Given that you, like me, are in Charlotte, I would recommend closing the pool. Every winter there are nights down in the teens; we occasionally get nights in the single digits, and every few winters get a few days in a row where the high is barely above freezing.
