Question about TA, I saw something on the internet about getting "true total alkalinity", by subtracting 1/3 of your CYA measurement from your TA reading. Which should I be using, my test kit measurement or the math? o_O

Glass filter update; It's functioning fabulously. By maintaining appropriate levels of Jack's Magic Pink Stuff, using an alternate, filtered, water source, and the glass filter media, it's relatively iron free. One thing operational wise, filtration pressure is higher then standard sand, with...

Question regarding Trichlor, I've read some articles that saying not to use in vinyl pools. I prefer liquid bleach, but there are days when I can't tend the pool, and Trichlor tabs fill the need, should I be concerned?

    Need advice about glass.

I've been hoping to find a live thread of filter glass user's, so far no luck. I may have to start one, I to have been wondering about general operation and maintenance. I love the glass, it's working as advertised. My pool link is Chuck's Pool , next spring I'll pull the filter head, inspect...

    Need advice about glass.

I believe it depends on manufacturer instructions. I recently switched from sand to glass, Brightline, recommends 20% less glass media than sand, I used 160 pounds in a 200 pound filter. I've seen other brands going 1 for 1. I am totally happy with the switch.

I have a question regarding chemical storage degradation. In regards to chlorine, does granular/powdered have a longer shelf life than liquid? I have two boxes of cal hypo 73%, 1 pound, shock packets, about a year old. Does degradation effect pH, or does that stay consistent?

I have propane and wood smokers. My propanes in addition to their smoke boxes, I've attached Smoke Daddy smoke generators. Baby backs, I'll dry rub the night before, and smoke 2 hours @250 degrees, wrap in foil, cook an additional 1.5 hour, remove from foil, and depending on my mood, if I want...

    Glass Filter Media

I just switched to BrightLine filter glass, when I replaced my liner, I debated some time switching over from sand. What pushed me over, was glasses purported ability to filter metals from the water. My well is high in iron, and is an ongoing battle, wish I had found TFP sooner, would have saved...

In regards to aerating, can I use my pool sprayers? Can I turn my returns straight up towards the surface? I've always wondered about that.

    Chuck's Pool

Thanks, as of today alkalinity is 110, keeps creeping up, due to metal treatment. Pool's clouded up today, clear yesterday, I'm guessing the extra 10 ppm Alk is precipitating iron out more quickly. Added a clarifying agent this morning, after I vacuumed. I don't like the high Alk, instead of...

Question regarding TF-100, Alkalinity testing, does measurement stop once solution changes color, or once the drops no longer change color? My latest test, solution pinks at 8 drops, goes total red, drops no longer effect color, at 10.

Ok, now I'm getting aggravated, I got the rust stains off my stairs, but I think my sequestrant petered out, the stains are back. I know Jack's Magic has a test kit, to maintain proper levels. How do I monitor Proteam Metal Magic? I have 4 bottles left, think I'll switch over to Jack's Magic...

    Pool liner protection?

I wonder why it wasn't offered as an option for my pool? Although if I ever change the liner again, I won't be using the same installer, he was in such a hurry to get out of here, he pull the vacuum too soon, and I have a minor wrinkle down the length of one side. All he had to was wait on...

Another question comes to mind, saw the vids a member made regarding deep cleaning his sand filter, annually. I know this works for him, I know others haven't touched their filter sand in 18 years and it still works. I'm a glass media guy, sacrilege I know, but it's works as advertised for me...

Just replaced liner on April 6th. My well water is high in iron, had water trucked in, unfortunately had to use 1500 gallons to start setting vinyl, before truck arrived. Added 3 trichlor tabs and 1# shock. 24 hours later, starting chemistry; water temp 62 FC: 2 TC: 2 TA: 39 pH: 6.8 CH: 53 Added...
