Topping off pool water with well water? :(

i opened my first pool earlier this summer with well water and had very high iron. it was nearly impossible to see the bottom. as was recommended to me here at TFP (and worked fantastically) add polyfill (pillow stuffing) to the skimmer basket and run the pump 24/7. replace the polyfill at...

First test results of "iced tea" colored well water fill

the water is cleaning up nicely. you can see in this picture the spot where we vacuumed. Seems a lot of the metal is settling to the bottom even with the pump running. FC 5 CC 0 PH 7.4 CYA 40 TA 260 CH 300

First test results of "iced tea" colored well water fill

pumps been running 24/7 since Monday and the polyfill gets changed in the skimmer daily...the pump/filter cycles the whole pool in about 3.25 hours so I figure the water turns over 7X/day. As of this afternoon we're looking MUCH better! I return from vacation tomorrow and am looking forward to...

    vacuum hose vs filter hose?

interesting...I'm a total newbie...wouldn't the vacuum hose need to withstand the same pressure as the filter hoses since the same pump is powering both?

First test results of "iced tea" colored well water fill

Happy 4th! I'm not sure I have an algae problem...I added chlorine up to SLAM levels because I was heading out on vacation for a week. When I return this Saturday do I use the SLAM tests to indicate if I'm ready to let the FC return to routine levels and continue working on iron removal?

First test results of "iced tea" colored well water fill

unfortunately, it looks like there was more iron in the water yet to be oxidized. a friend checked on the pool for me today to change the polyfill in the skimmer and sent me this picture. He said the bottom is barely visible and described the water as "dark gray green." does it make sense...

    vacuum hose vs filter hose?

i suppose not. is the ease of using PVC the reason sections of filter hose aren't longer than 12'? for the sake of my pool education :-)....what is the difference between vacuum hose and filter hose?

    vacuum hose vs filter hose?

I'm looking for some temporary filter hose to get 20' from the pool while I construct a deck. I can connect two 12' hoses but then I got to thinking (and couldn't find the answer) why can't I just use vacuum hose? What's the difference between filter hose and vacuum hose?

    why can't I find 25' filter hoses?

I'm still new...I need to locate my pump/filter, heater set up about 20 feet from the pool temporarily until after deck construction. I can't seem to find filter hoses more than 12' long.

all set for vacation...PH 7.3ish, CYA 36-37, FC 14. (after only testing 3 times I'm not exactly precise yet) pump set for 6.5 hours of run time (2 cycles) during the day. solar cover on. the polyfill is definitely doing it's thing. thank you for the help.

First test results of "iced tea" colored well water fill

will do! I'm thinking that with my iron issue I'd set the pump to cycle through the water 2x/day which is about 6.5 hours? does it make any difference at which time I run the pump?
