Can a sand filter appear to be working but actually not?

Well, something seems to have finally clicked! The pool is looking blue finally (a bit cloudy, but blue!) The polyfill in the skimmer basket was saturated with rusty brown color, and rusty brown water finally came out of the backwash for a few minutes. I still have to open up the DIY polyfill...

Can a sand filter appear to be working but actually not?

Hi, thanks for responding! My filter is so old, it doesn't have a sight glass. The backwash never changes color. I'm getting desperate so I fear if I go to pool store for testing they will convince me to walk out with more expensive chemicals that may or may not work, lol. I had an iron test...

Can a sand filter appear to be working but actually not?

OK, thanks! Chlorine: -Pool Essentials Chlorinating Liquid (Walmart, gallon jugs) -genric supermarket bleach (no additives) Current test results (as of 10 minutes ago): TA 60 pH 7.4 FC 3 CC 1.5 TC 4.5 did not test for CYA because I have not added any. As for how often I add chlorine? I...

Can a sand filter appear to be working but actually not?

The pressure gauge is not working. I've used Pro Team Metal Magic (old leftover unopened bottle), a new bottle of Natural Chemistry Metal Free, Ultimate Backyard Products Metal Control, and hth Metal and Stain Defense. The first two products were added before chlorinating and no change in 36-48...

Can a sand filter appear to be working but actually not?

I already know the well water is the culprit. Delivered water is way more $ than $100 in my area. I’ve used my well water in the past to fill, and metal out product got rid of the green color, permanently. All of the “top offs” with well water over the next 7 years never turned it green again...

Can a sand filter appear to be working but actually not?

I have an old Doughboy sand filter that I inherited when I bought my house in 2002, for a 24' round AGP. Since that time I've replaced both the pump and the entire pool. The filter seems to be operational, I changed out the sand last summer, all of the valve settings do what they are supposed to...

Green tint to fresh fill with well water

It’s a brand new liner, and the plastic white pool ladder steps do not seem to be stained. Iron seems like the most likely metal from my well water, and it’s probably making the water yellow which appears green against the blue liner. Maybe a specific iron remover would help? The metal out...

Green tint to fresh fill with well water

Well, shocking did not change the color. Adding more metal out did not change the color. Making a DIY bucket poly fill filter did nothing - the poly fill stayed bright white. Adding more metal out with chlorine at 0 did not change the color. Why is my pool water being so stubborn this time...

Green tint to fresh fill with well water

Ok! I'll add the liquid shock. One way or the other, it sounds like this is the next step now. I'll report back the outcome. Thanks!

Green tint to fresh fill with well water

But there is no chlorine added to the pool yet so how would that test tell me anything ? I have the test kit sold here. If I had algae wouldn't I see sticking to surfaces like it's done 100% of the time in the past 16 years of having a pool? There's no possibility that the slick feel could be...

Green tint to fresh fill with well water

But I can see clearly through the water to the bottom. It's been this color literally from the moment the water was over 3.5 feet high. I don't see even a hint of algae. Algae in my pool usually coats the walls and floor, and there is nothing. So I feel like there is not a n algae problem yet...

Green tint to fresh fill with well water

I just replaced my liner on my 24' x 52" ABG round pool. The water is a murky green, but clear. I have been adding some of the metal out products but they don't seem to be doing anything at all. I brought up the pH to about 7.2 - 7.5 before adding the metal out stuff. I have not added any...

pool liner - all the same?

I have a 24' round (52"H) pool and I want to replace the liner and add a foam bottom underneath. The current liner, while only 7 years old, has a slow leak and has gotten very faded. Are there any liner sellers/manufacturers that are considered to be better than the others? I get coupons for...

    Pool Re-do

I wouldn't be surprised if they were identical. Why don't you inquire about the thickness at the bottom of the pooldeals page under the "Ask a question" tab? I think I remember buying the Liner Shield version form pooldeals and they sent me the Liner Armor pad. It was the first time I was using...

    TC red, not yellow?

It was fairly cold when I closed it last Fall, and was a bit chilly when I jumped in tonight... It just threw me off because my understanding was that you get the PH and alkalinity balanced first, then go to the chlorine, so when I saw the high TC, I thought hmmm... But it was nice to see a...

    TC red, not yellow?

Ok, that explains it. The FAS-DPD test result was 23. Is this unusual for a first reading upon pool opening? I'm used to shocking to get chlorine up after taking the cover off! Is it too high to swim in? I haven't added any additional chlorine yet.

    TC red, not yellow?

I'm opening my pool this weekend. This is the first year I'm opening and have the TF-100 test kit. The tester that tests PH and Chlorine side by side is very red for the chlorine (should be a shade of yellow). Is this a result of the closing chemicals that I used last year before putting on the...

    Pool Re-do

I bought it here too for the same reason (and noticed the same thing)! We had pretty much the same experience last year with our install (except we did the install ourselves). But it sure would have made a world of difference if our new pool had the same number of posts/spacing as the old...

Winter Covers and Resin AGP Damage

Good point about the clips breaking first instead of parts you don't want to break. They usually start breaking on mine after a few years due to the cold/heat cycles of the weather. And you can get them a lot cheaper than $2/ clip if you look online!

Winter Covers and Resin AGP Damage

I finally ordered a cover and it came with free cover clips. I know some don't like them because they can break after one or two seasons, but so what they're cheap enough. They sent enough so that I was able to place two clips in between each upright. The clips make it virtually impossible for...

The eliminator Pool cover, anyone use them?

I wasn't concerned as much as the tightness of the cover across the pool - it was those brackets that you screw into the uprights that seemed a bit risky. Even if you leave the cover sitting on the water in the pool, and pump it off of the cover regularly, there will still be weight pulling the...

    cover pump?

I started with one of those years ago but it did not hold up very long. Looking to get something more rugged and with an automatic feature (turns on when water level reaches a certain point). On second thought about the weight though: wouldn't it be more of an advantage? If you put it in the...

The eliminator Pool cover, anyone use them?

I wonder how securely those brackets screw into the uprights with all of that tension on them, especially on a resin pool? It looks similar to this cover which is less expensive. I wonder if this cover below can be pulled tight like that also...

Winter Covers and Resin AGP Damage

These are the clips. I usually get them for a few dollars at my local pool store, and most of them usually survive the winter intact. It all depends on how much snow we get and how diligent I am about keeping the water out of the top of the cover...
