    Austin's Newest Swimming Hole

First of all let me say that I like that your PB took such good care to protect the surrounding shrubbery and area during the pour. You are correct to expect that both the treads of the steps and the slab should be finished so that they have fall and do not hold water. Those issues are simply...

    Installing in West by god.

That tree is gorgeous!!! Be absolutely sure that's what you want before you have it taken down I wonder if you couldn't attach a pool cover to the bottom of the fence. Then you could throw/hang the cover over the fence dumping the tree debris (2-person job) while you are in the pool. Kill two...

New here, dumping pool store advice, attempting to restore clear blue water - HELP!

For your pool you need about 5.5 lbs to raise your CYA 20ppm. I would start with that amount. Please use this method to add the stabilizer: Solid/granular cyanuric acid (CYA) should be placed in a sock and the sock suspended in front of a pool return. Squeezing the sock periodically will help...

Pool Leaking only when pump not running

The Multi-Port valve is the one you turn to backwash, rinse, filter etc. next to the filter tank. I believe it's recommended to always turn it either clockwise or counterclockwise. Not doing so may cause premature failure of the spider gasket. This is a good reason to have valves on all...

Green Pool this morning, Hot and Humid Party tomorrow... HELP!

Adding a skimmer sock, hairnet or knee-hi nylon to the inside of your skimmer basket(s) will also help, as well as extend your filter backwash intervals since it will catch particles before they reach the filter. Just keep an eye on your pressure, when it rises, clean/replace the sock and check...

Green Pool this morning, Hot and Humid Party tomorrow... HELP!

If your pressure went up that quickly after adding the DE, I would back off on the DE and only add about 1 cup after you backwash. A good bit of that pressure rise could have been the DE, it does take some time for the pressure to reflect the true impact of adding the DE. Otherwise you'll just...

    Thinking of getting a truck....

We have a 1994 RAM 1500 V-8 w/150K, 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/260K. Other than emissions work, never had to put any substantial $$ into either of them. My husband always had a company truck so saved wear & tear on our vehicles. We just sold our beloved '70 Chevy Shortbed Stepside (bought from...

    Taking over pool care

I'm the one that made the statement below: I thought I was clear that I didn't know, but you might want to find out if the Calcium level mattered. Naturally for the life of me I can't find where I read it when I was considering using a Zeo Product. But I also noticed that the ZeoInc...

Is It OK To "Use" Another's Post?

I have at times viewed a post and know that I have seen the perfect reply posted by someone else on another thread. While I could replicate that post, in the interest of time it would be quicker to copy and paste another's reply than it would be to type it and make the necessary links. Is it...

How to get rid of Backswimmers when my chems are good??

Should you fail the OCLT you should SLAM not "shock" please read: https://www.troublefreepool.com/content/125-slam-shock-level-and-maintain-shockingl Your CYA should be rounded up, so you should raise to the FC shock level for a CYA of 70 which is 28. You are going to need a lot of chlorine...

help skimmer sock sucked into plumbing

It won't make it to the filter. Did you check the basket at your pump? If it's not there, I would try to push it back toward the skimmer. With the pump off and the pump basket in place, try putting a garden hose in the pipe going back toward the pool (not toward the pump) and turn it on full...

    Completely Confused in Maryland

Welcome to TFP! Results from the Pool store are notoriously inaccurate and the tests kits you have don't provide the tests necessary to follow the methods used on this site. If you want to commit to using these methods the first thing you need is a proper test kit. You should order...

Sand. Stop me if this is a bad idea

STOP... VERY BAD IDEA!!! I've had large landscaped areas of both sand and pea gravel. Sand gets tracked everywhere no matter what you do. Go with the pea gravel, you can dig your toes in it. Check around you might be surprised at the variety of natural colors available. Put down landscape...

Is it ok to put DE in a cartridge filter system?

I would be surprised if your Stabilizer (CYA) is only 20 unless the pool was just recently filled, but Pool Store results are rarely dependable. Order a TF100 test kit and read this>> SLAM so you can start as soon as possible. Assume your Stabilizer (CYA) is 20 for the purposes of the SLAM...

Is it ok to put DE in a cartridge filter system?

You need to SLAM to get rid of the algae and clear the water. How do you usually chlorinate your pool?
  22. Winnie-the-Pool

Is it ok to put DE in a cartridge filter system?

Since you shocked it tonight I would pull the filter out and keep the water circulating overnight. Dead algae is probably what is clogging your filter, not the DE.

Is it ok to put DE in a cartridge filter system?

You need to SLAM to get rid of the algae and clear the water. Do you have a test kit? It would help if you could post your test results. Do you know if your filter can be bypassed or run without a cartridge? If you shocked tonight, it would be good to at least circulate the water. - - -...

Is it ok to put DE in a cartridge filter system?

Was your pool cloudy? Is that why you went to the pool store for advice? How are you chlorinating your pool? Chlorine tablets? How often do you shock?
  25. Winnie-the-Pool

Is it ok to put DE in a cartridge filter system?

Maybe or you might have gotten DE well embedded into each filter. I would assume it would be very difficult to get the DE out of the cartridges.
  26. Winnie-the-Pool

Is it ok to put DE in a cartridge filter system?

Just turn your filter off for the night. You could get a new cartridge tomorrow. Perhaps you could soak that filter to clean it.

Is it ok to put DE in a cartridge filter system?

Just a note for others reading this in the future: While you can add DE to a sand filter for increased performance. You would never add 7 pounds of it. Follow directions here>> Add DE To A Sand Filter I use it especially when we have a lot of pollen.
