Fine debris/dirt in returns on switching pump to Hi-Speed

Re: Fine debris/dirt in returns on switching pump to Hi-Spee Wow! thats good to know. There are no youtube videos on how to clean. But many on "how to replace". But I could never find a compelling logical explanation on why sand would need to be replaced. Cleaning it is. For anyone else reading...

Fine debris/dirt in returns on switching pump to Hi-Speed

Re: Fine debris/dirt in returns on switching pump to Hi-Spee Thanks. Jason. I was wondering at what point would I change the sand in the filter instead of just washing it. I cannot imagine what could happen to the sand to need it being changed. Does it get eroded away and become too fine?

Fine debris/dirt in returns on switching pump to Hi-Speed

Re: Fine debris/dirt in returns on switching pump to Hi-Spee Thanks for your reply and the link, Jason. I moved in here 3 months ago. No idea when it was last done. How often, typically, does this need to be done.

Fine debris/dirt in returns on switching pump to Hi-Speed

So every time I toggle my two-speed pump from low to high. I get a 20 second dark stream of fine debris from all the pool returns. After backwashing the filter the stream is less dark but still there. I strangely do not seem to get this problem when the pump is switched on with the high speed...

    re-routing pipes recommendation

Thanks for your input! Huh! I didnt realize that I didnt have proper pool valves. How are they different from the valves I have now. Forgive my ignorance, this is my first pool and its only been a month. Tons of stuff to learn... My pool has 3 underwater return jets and one above water level...

    re-routing pipes recommendation

Hello All, So I had to dig my pipes up to find a leak and found instead quite a mess (and a leak). I count 5 turns in the return line. It seems to me I can reduce this to just 2 turns by keeping the T fittings in line with the pipe coming from the filter. In other words, by rotating the set of...

which 2 speed motor to replace 1 speed C48K2PA105

Thanks for the insight bobo and linen. I have to think about this a little more. It looks like the cost benefit is not really there... say $350 total for this motor and parts - compared to $410 for a new superflo dual speed In my case, I anyway have to replace the pipes to and from the pump...

    2 speed pump

I am not an expert and am just getting into the whole pool thing. But my understanding is apart from water features, high speed is used for backwashing, vacuuming and possibly for skimmer function. But the speed needed for adequate skimmer function is hard to predict. So you can try at low...

which 2 speed motor to replace 1 speed C48K2PA105

I have a Sta Rite MPRA6E-147L (which is now obsolete: exact replacement a/c to Sta Rite website is MPRA6E-205L). My pump has a an AO Smith motor: #C48K2PA105 . I was wondering: 1. What 230V 2 speed motor would be compatible 2. Can this be a DIY thing? I am an engineer but of a more...

    New Pump recommendation

hmmm, I didnt know about pressure cleaners! How are they different looking from regular return jets. When I turn off valve 1 all but 2 returns go quiet (these returns look like jets). Turning off Valve 3 quietens the 2 remaining returns (one is above water level and the other is just a hole in...

    New Pump recommendation

Thanks again Jason. Yes, thats pretty much my understanding for switching the voltage. Basically, my understanding was that it didnt involve installing new wires or any other major infrastructure. Yes, high speed would only be used for manual vacuuming and backwashing. So the 115V 3/4HP...

    New Pump recommendation

Also yes, my current pump is 115V/230V but run at 115V. But from my understanding, making the switch is fairly simple. Just switch a couple of wires around?

    New Pump recommendation

Thanks for the info, Jason. I believe the piping is 1.5 inch. But its mostly underground so hard to tell for sure. The plumbing near the pump station is mostly 2 inch but is a mismatch. As you can see in the picture. [attachment=0:386fdpgb]poool13.jpg[/attachment:386fdpgb] The hole in the...
