Yes it’s the CCL kit not TF kit. i also found with the powder the solution change at end of test is a bit blurred, or grey as you say but I think it gets me in the ball park. ill try crushing the powder up too as it the bigger grains may not fill the spoon up properly and effect the test.

Hi Maddie, I would have to check the bottle at home, but I'm sure it doesn't have expiry. Some of the other bottles do though. Any idea how an expired reagent would effect the test? (not sure how old mine was)

I found my latest FC levels have jumped from 12 to 20 just by using a new bottle of Titrating reagent. I know the instructions say to put lid cap back on to stop reagent going bad, but does the air in the bottle cause it to degrade over time - and if so does it cause the FC reading to be a lot...

Assuming the correct ratios of FC and CYA in a SWG pool, what are the pros and cons of having high FC vs low FC? I try to maintain FC:6 CYA:80. Why would 4:60 not be recommended? Also why do "Most saltwater chlorine generator (SWG) pools appear to prevent algae at a lower minimum FC level...

I've noticed my acid demand (to reduce the ph) has dropped off quite a bit now since I have been running at a higher Ch level. Is that normal or just a coincidence?

My % was at 72%. I just dropped it to 60% to lower the FC. All have to look out for the Dichlor next time I'm out. Over here all the good stuff is hidden behind such chemicals as : 'Clarify That' and 'Sparkle This'. Lol.

Thanks for the feedback all. I never heard of DiChlor or if it is even available locally. It could just be a Fad?! I'm happy for the SWG to do all the work and add liquid Chlorine as and when it needs an instant hit. I've added a bit more CYA and will recheck next week to see where it's at.

I've been slowly raising my FC since using the TFP method from about 2.5 to 6. I've also been maintaining TA of 80 and pH of 7.5. I was a bit hesitant to raise the FC that high thinking the pool water would taste yuck and sting our eyes. But nope. :-) The pool clarity has never been better...

Ok thanks for the info all. I just did did a double back wash at full speed. I notice sand particles in the sight glass of the filter during the rinse phase but not in the backwash phase. i didn't notice any sand around the waste pipe in to the sewer.

Whrn back washing, why doesn't the sand wash out when doing a back wash? What speed should I run my VS pump when running backwash? I've read that full speed is required to lift the sand but wouldn't that wash out the sand down the drain? Squib

Thanks for the additional info. Have any of you local pool owners used the Bunnings Hy-Clor stabiliser? They call it Isocyanuric Acid which I think is the same thing as CYA? I've heard that their Salt is questionable but what about their other chemicals for us DIYers?
