    Bad cover install?

I don't think so. When I pulled on the slack near the spring the buckle got further away and it loosened. I then went behind and moved the strap and it tightened and the buckle got closer. I could be missing something so here is a pic of the springs, or two.

    Bad cover install?

This was a replacement for a cover that was already there. I will post a pic of the springs. It just seems odd that they left it this way, granted the pool had less water in it when they put it on. So it was just a matter of measuring it out. This is the same brand (Merlin) as the previous cover...

    Bad cover install?

I hope you're right, but here is a picture of perhaps the buckles with the most room, one is slightly more than an inch, the other is about an inch or less. About half of the straps are about this far away, the other half much closer, many right up against the cover. With a sag of 10" or so, I...

    Bad cover install?

Hello: We had a cover replaced and the new one droops badly. It's a heavier mesh (duro-mesh maybe?) than the previous one. It's supposed to not let light in, or enough to make stuff grow. We'll find out very soon. Anyway the installer said he could tighten the buckles, but this thing is...

    Water behind brand new liner

Is caulking a normal part of the installation process? If he didn't charge me for it on the install labor, I'd be willing to pay him to do it as long as he rehung the liner for free.

    Water behind brand new liner

I am assuming that the installer believes if the water behind the liner gets sucked out, the wrinkles will disappear. He may be right, but am I just really unlucky or should that have been somehow tested prior to installation?

    Water behind brand new liner

Brand new liner installed, and there are wrinkles. On the floor and on the sides. The fellow came out and said there's water behind the liner. Now the last liner I got 10 yrs ago the same thing happened but not as badly, and I didn't know any better, so I just lived with it. He said the coping...

    Loop-Loc or Merlin cover?

The fellow I'm going to use said if I open as normal (late April/Early May) and close as normal (late September/Early Oct) I should have a clear pool. That would be awesome if he's right. I currently have duramesh.

    Loop-Loc or Merlin cover?

How early do you open and how late do you close? I keep a bucket on the stairs, inside of which goes a sump pump which I hose to the other end of the pool, and I put pucks in the bucket when it gets warm in the winter (as it always does). I usually open end of April/early May and close end of...

    Loop-Loc or Merlin cover?

It's time for a new cover. We have a Merlin mesh cover, it's now about 15 years old, and needs replacing. Too many seams undone and bird holes to repair. Loop Loc supposedly has a solid cover with mesh sections so water still drains in and doesn't collect on the cover. Merlin supposedly has a...

    Backwash hose and reel?

I don't have a pump house. The filter and pump sit outside my shed. There's a concrete area for it all and I lay the hose in layers, always have. And it's fine, I guess, but now after 10 years or so, I need a new hose. I believe I know not to buy the cheap one. But I think I'd like to keep it...

    pump will not prime

If it's old, it could be the motor. How hot does the housing get? I had to replace mine because the pump would overheat and shut off quite frequently. That impeller needs to be able to easily spin. Check inside the translucent impeller cover to see if any of the fins are damaged.

    Main Drain issue

Well the pool guy that came to look at the pump told me to just crack the main drain, then open it up after a while, then try turning the skimmer off. It worked. I'm guessing between the drain king and the other things I've tried it all helped somewhat, and it was gonna break free eventually...

    Main Drain issue

Motor sounds fine. I have had to un-freeze the impeller the last 2-3 seasons upon startup. But once it's unstuck it spins really smoothly. The service I use taught me how to take that end apart, and that sometimes the impellers freeze. There's gotta be a way to lube that somehow, but I guess...

    Main Drain issue

I turned off the main drain last night, and it shut down today. I did notice the pump bucket had stuff in it, which I removed. I guess there's extra suction w/o the main drain open. But it shut down long after I cleared the pump bucket. Can this be fixed, or do I need a new pump?

    Main Drain issue

OK I don't know if this is related--my pump is (sta-rite I believe 3/4 HP maybe 1/2--I think 3/4) is running hot to the point where it shuts down. The main drain and skimmer are both open and the pump primes fine, or seems to. Do you think closing the main drain will make my pump run cooler?

    Main Drain issue

Yes, I've tried that, and it appears you are correct. I'm not sure this water trick will work due to the proximity of the T, then another right angle straight down 6-8" later.

    Main Drain issue

Well I got a drain bladder, and at first I couldn't get it to function, but with the water pressure ever so gradually increased, I got it to not back out of the pipe. There's not much clearance before the T junction. Yes, I have the skimmer side off, so eventually, the water all goes down the...

    Main Drain issue

That might be the ticket! I'll have to measure the size of the pipe tomorrow when it's light out. Opening is when I really need that main drain. Thanks so much! I'll let y'all know how it works.

    Main Drain issue

I tried your idea, but it's difficult with what we have. Coming from the pump there's a pipe that T's after 6" one side to skimmer, other side to main drain. They each go 6" then each go straight down into the ground. When I stuck the hose in, wrapped in a rag, I couldn't hold a seal, the water...

    Main Drain issue

Would a regular backwash go through the pump basket? We have a multiport thingie. There's "filter" which is normal operation, "waste", "rinse", "backwash" and maybe two more. I only use "fllter" and "backwash", but I'll use "waste" if the pool gets too full. I'm not sure what the others do.

    Main Drain issue

Hello: I have a skimmer and a main drain, and one return line (another return had been abandoned before we took ownership 13 yrs ago). I have a pent air DE filter, with the pressure gauge on top, that you can bleed the air out of by twisting the cap underneath the gauge. At the pump there are...

    Cloudy pool after near-monsoon?

And the obvious questions: How do I uncloud my pool? And how long will the process take? And is the water unsafe to be in (I doubt this, but one never knows) I added the large bleach container, which /should/ bring it to about 4ppm, perhaps 3.5. I'll take readings in the morning. I also...
