Can't maintain Free Chlorine over 0.2...?!?

Makes sense. The weird thing is just that the water is CRYSTAL clear after shocking about 5 days ago, even with some kids swimming this weekend. The only noticeable issue is some small algae in spots, but that only seems to happen when we see rain (which, oddly, we've seen a lot of lately here...

Can't maintain Free Chlorine over 0.2...?!?

Ha. Thanks! On a sidenote, my UV system is forward of my chlorinator. :) -rt

Can't maintain Free Chlorine over 0.2...?!?

I guess someone missed my "no UV lectures please" line. However, if you must lecture about UV, note that sunlight UV doesn't penetrate anything but the first foot or so of water (making it mostly useless for a 6.5' deep pool like mine). The comment that UV filters do nothing is simplistic and...

Can't maintain Free Chlorine over 0.2...?!?

The K-2006 is a pretty strong test kit, so not sure if I need the T100 instead/as well. As for SLAMing, I've shocked the pool multiple times with no problem... the pool comes out crystal clear, shocks just fine. The problem is MAINTAINING the chlorine level... it simply will not stay above 0.2...

Can't maintain Free Chlorine over 0.2...?!?

New pool, opened about 5 months ago. I've been balancing the chems regularly, cleaning it, and keeping everything in tip top shape. However no matter what I do I can't seem to get my Free Chlorine over 0.2. At first I thought maybe my test kit was old (Taylor K-2006), but when I shock the...

Adding more times to ProLogic 8 relay Aux, possible?

In our first season with our new pool one annoying feature I've found with the ProLogic system our pool builder installed is the fact that the Aux circuits only have a single timer setting each day (will turn on/off only on cycle in a day). Why it works this way I have no idea... how much...

Plumbing auto-fill at pad... where to tap in?

Thanks for the follow-up. Couple quick comments: FYI, this is actually not true. Evaporated water can and does carry trace amounts of salts and other minerals, and this content is even higher when you're talking about wind-born water (like on a sea front). This is the reason that steel...

Plumbing auto-fill at pad... where to tap in?

Great points, I didn't even know what CYA was until the previous post made me look it up... and I'm still not totally sure I get it. :) So is there no way to bring your CYA down without refilling the pool? I'm actually new to Austin and the whole "never closing your pool" idea (I grew up in...

Plumbing auto-fill at pad... where to tap in?

I'm fine with tangents. :) No, you're well beyond my expertise... to be honest I haven't had the time to micro-manage my pool tech, and have trusted the PB with some of the specifics. That said, we decided against SWG due to our metal roof and plants/grass, neither of which would have survived...

Plumbing auto-fill at pad... where to tap in?

Great points. I've actually found a lot of posts online about it, but it definitely isn't as prevalent as a standard line/auto-fill into the pool. Not sure why... aside from being less costly and easier to maintain, the benefit of not having a seldom used water line to the pool seems a lot...

Plumbing auto-fill at pad... where to tap in?

Thanks for all the replies! Apologies on the terminology mix-up, I should have been a little more clear on the set-up. What I'm doing is adding fill capabilities at the pad (into my plumbing). While it's not a traditional "auto-fill" (toilet set-up), the concept is the same since I'll be...

Plumbing auto-fill at pad... where to tap in?

Wrapping up our pool project (Austin, TX) and have decided to add in an auto-fill. Didn't want to pay the upgrade initially, but doing some research I've discovered the better option (to me) of plumbing it at the pad. Will likely make it manual at first, but I'm planning to eventually add in a...

    Crystalstones vs Quartzscape vs Plasterscape?

Thanks for the note. I actually called NPT and spoke with one of their techs this afternoon... it seems that Quartzscape uses quartz aggregates (small pebbles) suspended in a quartz binder. Basically what I assumed, which is that the "plaster" is itself made of quartz. So, the net is that...

    Crystalstones vs Quartzscape vs Plasterscape?

Thanks for the reply. Our PB provided two plaster subs for us to pick between here in Austin, H&H (who they used to work with and will use if we want) and Uno (larger outfit, based on Houston). We actually we're able to see two gray pools that were right next door to one another, one by each...

    Crystalstones vs Quartzscape vs Plasterscape?

We're nearing the end of our build and trying to lock down our plaster choice, looking for some insight on these products. Our PB kind of browbeat us to go with a pebble product initially, which is how we landed on Crystalstones. However, neither the wife or I really like the look of pebble...
