    Kids in the pool

That's a very good rule. I will have to use it. My 2 1/2 year old grandson loves to come to Paw Paw's house and swim!

    Well, this is strange!

OK, I put in the diverters, and pointed the deep end down and the shallow end to one side. I almost paniced when I walked outside last night and the surface was completely smooth! I checked both returns to make sure they were running! I kept up the shocking last night, didn't drop any on the FC...

Worst thing ever in your pool?

Thanks, Fritz, I just sprayed Coke Zero through my nose and all over my keyboard with that one! :goodjob:

    Well, this is strange!

Found out at lunch today that I have no eyeballs in the return jets! There are just the outer rings screwed onto the housing, so there's no way to adjust the direction of the flow. Time to go to the pool store, I guess.

Worst thing ever in your pool?

I dunno...half of them have been dead quite a while now...MORE BLEACH!

Worst thing ever in your pool?

Yesterday, I found a live brown spider approximately 18 feet from tip to tip. OK, maybe it was 6 inches across, but it took up most of the skimmer basket top. I have now instituted a new rule- NEVER EVER empty the skimmer during darknesss hours.

    Well, this is strange!

OK, I went back to Pool School (summer school class?) and re-read the Shocking process. It plainly states that it may take up to a week to get a clear pool. So....I'll keep the process going til it clears up!

Worst thing ever in your pool?

One, did you shoot it? Two, did your insurance cover it?

    Should I be concerned?

It's not threaded. I guess it's glued with the purple stuff. But its only one drop during the backwash cycle, so the leaking isn't bad, but I was wondering if it is sucking air when it's in the filter mode.

    Should I be concerned?

I've noticed on the last couple of backwashes, I have a small leak coming out of the connection between the filter and the pump. It only happens when I'm backwashiing. A large drop of water will form at the bottom of the union and eventualy drops off onto the side of the filter. It doesn't...

    Cost Savings?

At my local Wally World store, I get the 182 oz bottles for $2.98 each, which is cheaper than SAMS and I don't have to drive to Thug City to get it.

    Well, this is strange!

I have the main drain open as well as the skimmer, the vacuum port (I realized a couple of days ago that there should be a cover over the vac port. Need to pick one up shortly) and the skimmer. I vacuumed and swept yesterday as well. It seems like I have full flow, but I haven't opened the pump...

    Well, this is strange!

My water is no longer any shade of green, however, it's still cloudy! Maybe cloudy isn't the right word. I can make out the drain but it's not super crystal clear like I think it should be. I kept it at shock level yesterday and last night. I did the OCLT and it dropped from 25 to 24 in 9.5...

    Well, this is strange!

I went home and checked the FC and CC. The FC is 22 and 0 on the CC. The water is a nice shade of blue now, but is still a bit cloudy. I can see the bottom drain, but not clearly. Should I just keep it vacuumed and wait for the FC to come down, or is there anything I should be doing in the mean...

    Well, this is strange!

Oops, a typo. It was 25 both times. I'll test it again in about an hour and see what's going on with it.

    Well, this is strange!

Thanks, I'll check that in a little while when I run home for lunch. What exactly is the test for copper, other than treating for algae, and if it clears up, it's not copper?

    Well, this is strange!

We have had afternoon showers for the past few days. Amazonian rain forest type showers if they happen to pass overhead. Enough rain to prevent sweeping and vacuuming. I put some pucks in the clorinator just to keep some level of sanitation going until I had an opportuntity to clean the pool...

Question about my old pool cleaner and sucking air

The previous owners left a Baracuda Alpha 3 pool cleaner in the pool equipment locker. I finally had an opportunity to pull it out and hook it up. It's about 10 years old, and still works, though I don't know how well as I have nothing to compare it to. It does move around and leaves a clean...

Best way to clean a pool?

Good! That's what I'll do from now on. Could be why my CYA is so low, I've replaced a lot of water in the two times I've done this!

Best way to clean a pool?

After 4 days of afternoon rains, it was sunny when I got home from work so I had a chance to clean the pool. The water was clear but a lot of dirt on the bottom. I put the vacuum on waste, put a hose in the pool to replace the water, and started. After 37 minutes, another storm came up and I had...

Water goes from cloudy to clear and back again

Well, after three days of storms, family visits, more unpacking, and church activities, I finally made the time to test my water. Here are the numbers. FC=4 PH-7.2 CC=0 TA= somewhere between 70-100 CH=100 CYA=More than 20, but less than 30. Got to get used to the test, but I'd range it around...

    New Pool Adventures

I'm a noob too, just having bought a house with a pool. I let my water level get too low while vacuuming and lost the prime on the pump. Took me a few days to figure out what to do about it. I brought the water level up, and put the hose in the pump strainer and ran it for about half an hour...

Water goes from cloudy to clear and back again

I shut the pump off from 11 pm to 6 am. The bather load is light, just 5 every other day or so, for about an hour each time. I am planning on devoting this evening to the pool. I've got to vacuum it again, sweep the decking, and do a full test with the kit. Unless something comes up, like my...

Water goes from cloudy to clear and back again

I noticed yesterday that during the day my water seems a bit cloudy, like I can just barely make out the main drain, but at night and early in the morning it is crystal clear. Is the temp affecting the clarity? We are in central Georgia, and it's at least 95 during the day (including the weekend...

    Problem vacuuming to waste?

FIXED IT! I had a friend that's also a long-time pool owner come over and give me a hand. Seems that the problem was that the pump lost it's prime. It took a LOT of water to back fill all the plumbing before we got the pump to start pulling water, but once we did, I've got lots of suction now...

    Problem vacuuming to waste?

This is getting fustrating. I replaced the Key assembly and handle. The old one was very hard to turn, the handle would not spring back when pushed down, and it was all sun-faded to the point I thought it was going to crack. The new one turns easliy and the handle pops back up when you let go...

    Problem vacuuming to waste?

Come to think of it, no it doesn't. If I press it down, I feel tension on it going down, and it will stay in the down position. Is the spring in the Key assembly or in the valve body?

    Problem vacuuming to waste?

OH NO, Valve not working! Topics merged for continuity. Bama In a recent post I was concerned about my system seeming to not vacuum to waste and now I think I know why. When I got home yesterday, the very windy day filled the pool with leaves and the skimmer was packed. I cleaned it out and...

    Problem vacuuming to waste?

Re: ? about vacuuming to waste with a sand filter. OK, so if I put it to waste, and connect the hose to the skimmer, it should vacuum to waste, right? It didn't seem to work yesterday. Once I put it on filter, it did fine. I'll play with it some more tonight if I get the opportunity. Still...
