Yeah use the 10ml test and save reagent, multiply how many drops turn pink clear by 0.5 to get FC ppm. Looking good nice cloudy blue. Give it a few more days, you will be clear in no time. I use the OTO test when I maintain FC levels 5ppm and below after a SLAM since I don't want to use up the...

    Help green pool

Your numbers look perfect for a SLAM. Use the pool math calculator in this forum, determine your gallon size, input all current values into calculator, you are going to want you're FC target to be 16 ppm if you go a little higher to 20 ppm no big deal. Determine how many ounces of 6% bleach...

    Help with Stubborn Cloudy Green

Here is one situation Light Master that will throw you through a loop. For 4 years I always had sediment sitting on the bottom of my floor just beyond my return jet. Thought it was algae in my first year, even when my water was crystal clear and FC levels good. Kept getting it year after year...

    Help with Stubborn Cloudy Green

If you have enough play on those pipes to the left of the sand filter. What you could do is cut into the pipe just beyond the 90-degree elbow, and cut into the other pvc pipe that goes straight, beyond the threaded connector and the elbow, and install and glue another male thread coupling to a...

BRM 12. What brand/type and model pump filtration system do you have? Is it a Hayward? Polaris? Etc. Are you able to retrieve any model information by looking at the unit, or the pump impeller unit itself? Pictures please. What I was saying about the big box stores or the pool store is you can...

    Please Help Me!!

Sorry for the confusion. You can filter at 20 micron for now to get the bulk of the algae out. The new psi gauge should come with an o ring. Pick up some pool lube, or some clear silicone lube you can pickup at your big box store in the plumbing section. Comes in handy for sealing pump basket...

    HELP Slamming Pool/First Time

I thought I would chime in here. Those are very good starting numbers. As previously mentioned, SLAM at FC 16 PPM until your OCLT test loses no more than FC 1-2 ppm in a 24 hour period. I'm going to recommend something that the members of TFP suggested to me several years ago. You can polish...

    algae starting to grow

Yeah if you haven't already done so and poured it in stay away from the algaecide again algaecide is only a preventative measure. It does not remove algae. Some are made with copper sulfide and can raise metal levels or copper levels in your pool. Others are made with alkyl dimethyl benzyl...

I have a similar Hayward cartridge filter and pump. You want to save a few bucks on electric, run the pump after 5 pm until the am. Electric rates are cheaper during off peak hours. Get your CYA between 30 to 50, starting at 30 if possible. Get your pH between 7.2 and 7.4 for the SLAM...

    Help with Stubborn Cloudy Green

Ha... Bugs are easy to wash out of any filtration. Well.... Most of them. What really upsets me in my skimmer sock and cartridge is the fine debris clippings that blow in my pool from my arbor vitae, that hook in and get stuck into anything fine mesh. Have to pluck them out.

    Help with Stubborn Cloudy Green

I personally wouldn't put anything in the pump basket coming from experience. I've done women's nylons in the past on the skimmer basket, and it got sucked into the pump basket. My guess is putting any type of netting in the pump basket, the top of the sock would have to go over the top of the...

    Disgusted

I was once in your shoes 6 years ago, and didn't know the first thing about pools. In 6 years I've opened crystal clear for 3 and literally a black swamp with frogs in it one or two years and green this year. This site will teach you how to fish, no pun intended instead of handing you one, like...

Take a look at the picture i attached. You cut off the original ring of the bag. I attached my bag with a simple hose clamp to a 90 degree elbow return and screw it into my return jet where my eyeball typically goes. I use a turn key hose clamp from an auto parts store for convenience, since...

WHAT THE HECK? TFP BBB not nice this year

If you are not crystal clear and still passing the SLAM of less than 1-2 ppm FC loss in 24 hr time frame. I would maintain shock levels. Typically SLAM SHOCK FC ranges are 15-20 ppm. You're CYA is low. You're chlorine is very low. Chlorine loss is factored by three things. CYA stability, sun...

    Start SLAM at night?

Wow I wish I had a pool around pasture like that. Very beautiful. I opened my pool this year to that color green, and I am already clear within 4 days. Here are the numbers you want to ideally shoot for before running a SLAM. FC 15 to 20 ppm during SLAM and depending on CYA CC 0 to 0.5 PH...

Shoot for PH 7.2. Use muratic acid as previously stated 1 quart at a time, allow to circulate, and test. Your numbers look perfect other than the PH for a SLAM

The water clarity prism usually runs like this. Black, dark green, light green, clear green, turquoise, cloudy blue, hazy blue, crystal clear blue. Mine was you're color green when I opened this Saturday. I am now at hazy blue with little pump run time, maybe 4 to 6 hrs a day, since I don't have...

That sounds like a good alternative the skimmer socks yeah I can't justify and paying $15 for five socks. In the past I've tried women's nylons but they always got sucked into the pump basket. That's a good idea I will try that.

Skimmer socks you can get at you're local Leslie's or pool store in a 5 pack for about $15 bucks. I probably use about 1-2 a season, depending on if it gets torn or not. The duda diesel bag is something experimental that someone on here suggested to me 3 years ago as a secondary means of...

As KIMKATS introduced me to the term here. P.O.P. or Pool Owner Patience... Lol. Leaf net drag the floor even if you have to do it blind get as much debris out as possible. I will suggest starting with measuring PH. Get it to 7.2 and use baking soda or sodium bicarbonate to raise. Or muratic acid to lower. Use pool calc to determine how many oz. by size of pool. Go to...

Clear "green" water - Am I doing enough?

Stop adding the cal hypo. It is going to raise your cya levels. Do strictly liquid chlorine 8% or 10% bleach, which is sodium hypochlorite and will not raise your cya levels. My pool is currently at this stage green myself it's clear green. I've had three seasons of opening my pool Crystal Clear...
